  • Remove the shipping box.
  • Check that the appliance has not been damaged during transport. Do not plug in a damaged appliance under any circumstances! If the appliance is damaged, please contact your retailer.
  • Remove all tape and packaging material on the inside and outside of the appliance. Take out the accessories (ice cube tray, egg holder, etc.) that may have been supplied with the appliance.

BEFORE FIRST USE

  • Clean the inside of the appliance and any accessories provided with lukewarm water with a little white wine vinegar added to it. Do not use soap or detergent as the odour may persist. After cleaning, dry the appliance completely.
  • You can use white spirit to remove any remaining adhesive from the outside of the appliance.

IMPORTANT: To clean the appliance, always turn it off and unplug it, or remove the fuses or turn off the circuit breaker.

INSTALLATION

INSTALLATION LOCATION

  • The appliance’s energy consumption and efficient operation are affected by the ambient temperature. For this reason, it is important to follow the following recommendations:
  • Place your refrigerator-freezer on a stable, level surface. Your appliance will be heavy when loaded with food: it must, therefore, be placed on a strong, solid floor.
  • Theappliance must be installed ina dry, well-ventilated room at room temperature (16°C minimum and 38°C maximum). Make sure you leave a space of at least 10 cm around the appliance.
  • Never place an appliance that emits heat (microwaves, toasters, etc.) on the refrigerator.
  • The appliance must not be exposed to direct sunlight.
  • This appliance must not be exposed to moisture or rain.
  • The appliance must not be installed next to a radiator, a stove or any other heat source.
  • The installation of the appliance must not obstruct the outlet.
  • After installation, make sure that it is not resting on its power cord.
  • Before plugging the appliance into the mains socket for the first time, please let the appliance rest for two hours if the appliance was transported in the upright position, or 24 hours if the appliance was transported in the horizontal position. This is to allow the refrigerant gas to go back down into the compressor. Not respecting this waiting period may damage the compressor
  • WARNING: Toavoid any risk, due to instability, the appliance must be secured in accordance with these instructions.

CLIMATE CLASS
Only install the appliance in a location where the room temperature matches the climate class for which it was designed (see table below).
The climate class is on the rating plate located on the outside of the appliance.
The table below shows the correct room temperature for each climate class:

Climate class Room temperature
SN +10 to +32°C
N +16 to +32°C
ST +16 to +38°C
T +16 to +43°C

Your RDL 145-55b3 refrigerator/freezer is rated “ST”. If the room temperature is below or above the indicated room temperature, the performance of your refrigerator/ freezer may be affected, and your food may spoil.
SUFFICIENT VENTILATION

  • Make sure that air can always circulate freely around the appliance.
  • For the appliance to run properly, do not obstruct the vents and leave a space of at least 20 cm above the appliance, 10 cm between the back and the wall and 2 cm on each side.
  • If your appliance is to be installed next to another refrigerator or freezer, make sure the appliances are not touching each other. This is to prevent condensation from forming on the outside.

LEVELLING
For vibration-free operation, the appliance needs to be in a level position. To do this, adjust the adjustable feet at the front to properly level the appliance.

USE

GETTING STARTED

  • Before plugging the appliance into the mains socket for the first time, please let the appliance rest for two hours if the appliance was transported in the upright position, or 24 hours if the appliance was transported in the horizontal position. This is to allow the refrigerant gas to go back down into the compressor. Not respecting this waiting period may damage the compressor.
  • Plug the appliance into an earthed mains socket.

REFRIGERATOR COMPARTMENT

SETTING THE TEMPERATURE

boulanger RDL 145 55b3 2 Door Refrigerator - Temperature
Setting

The thermostat knob switches the appliance on and off.
It serves to regulate both the refrigerator compartment and the freezer compartment.
The “0” or “OFF” setting (depending on the model) corresponds to the “off” position of the appliance.
Please note: the “off” position of the appliance does not interrupt the power supply to the bulb.
The minimum setting (number “1”) corresponds to the highest temperature, the warmest setting.
The maximum setting (the highest number) corresponds to the lowest temperature, the coldest setting.

  • Initially, set the thermostat to position “5” for normal, everyday use.
  • Do not open the appliance doors for the first 30 minutes. We recommend leaving the refrigerator running empty for about 1 to 2 hours (depending on the room temperature).
  • Touse the freezer compartment when the appliance is initially switched on or after it has been switched off for a prolonged period of time, set the thermostat to the maximum position (highest number) for about 2 hours before placing frozen or deep-frozen products in the freezer compartment. Then turn the thermostat back to its usual position.
  • The temperature inside the appliance is a function of several factors, such as the room temperature, the quantity of food stored, how often the door is opened, etc.

NOTE: When the thermostat is in the maximum position (highest number), you may hear the compressor run more regularly.
TEMPERATURE INDICATOR
To help you set your appliance correctly, the refrigerator is equipped with a temperature indicator (located in the coldest zone and indicated by the pictogram opposite).

  • For proper food storage in your refrigerator and in particular in the coldest zone, make sure that “OK” appears in the temperature indicator.
    Incorrect setting
    Correct setting

  • If”OK” does not appear, the average temperature of the zone is too high. Set the thermostat to a higher position.

  • Whenever you adjust the thermostat, wait for the temperature inside the appliance to stabilise before adjusting it again, if necessary. Only change the position of the thermostat gradually and wait at least 12 hours before checking again and possibly changing it.
NOTE: After loading the appliance with fresh food or after opening the door repeatedly (or leaving it open for a prolonged period), it is normal if the word “OK” does not appear in the temperature indicator; Wait at least 12 hours before readjusting the thermostat.

  • If the evaporator in the refrigerator compartment (back wall of the appliance) becomes abnormally frost-covered (appliance overloaded, high room temperature, high thermostat setting, frequent door openings), gradually turn the thermostat knob back to a lower position until the compressor stops running periodically again. The refrigerator compartment will only automatically defrost if the compressor stops intermittently.

THE COLDEST ZONE
The symbol indicates the location of the coldest zone of your refrigerator, whose temperature is less than or equal to 4°C.
This zone is located at the top of the refrigerator compartment as shown in the diagram below (in zone 2).

  1. Storing frozen food, making ice cubes, freezing
  2. Meat, cold cuts, fish
  3. Dairy products, cheese, other foods
  4. Fruits and vegetables
  5. Butter, eggs and condiments
  6. Bottles and other drinks

STORING FOOD IN THE REFRIGERATOR COMPARTMENT
In a refrigerator, the temperature is not uniform (with the exception of ventilated or stirred cold appliances), which is why there are appropriate areas for each type of food. Refer to the instructions on the previous page for food storage.

  • Always wrap products to prevent different foods from contaminating each other.
  • Wait for anything cooked to cool completely before storing it (for example: soup).
  • To ensure proper air circulation, never cover the shelves with paper or plastic sheets.
  • Store only fresh foods, cleaned and wrapped in appropriate food packaging or containers.
  • Limit the number of door openings and, in any case, do not leave the door open for too long to prevent the refrigerator temperature from increasing.
  • Do not overload the appliance and arrange food so that air can circulate freely around it.
  • We remind you that thawed products must be eaten as soon as possible and never be refrozen unless they have been cooked after thawing.

FREEZER COMPARTMENT

Your appliance is labelled ‘4 stars’ , which means you can store frozen food, freeze fresh products and make ice cubes.

Type of appliance| Temperatures in the coldest compartment| Storage period
---|---|---
No star| Freezer: 0°C| Ice cubes
| Freezer: -6°C| Ice cubes
Short-term frozen food storage: 3 to 4 days

| Freezer: -12°C| Ice cubes
Average frozen food storage period: 1 to 4 weeks
| Storage compartment: Less than or equal to -18°C| Ice cubes
Long-term frozen food storage: 3 months to 12 months
****| Freezer compartment: From -18°C to -24°C| Ice cubes
Long-term frozen food storage: 3 months to 12 months
It is possible to freeze fresh products

*The storage time depends on the type of food; see the manufacturer’s instructions on the food box.

  • When starting the appliance, we recommend waiting 2 hours before putting fresh products in the freezer compartment. If the appliance is already running, this waiting period is not necessary.
  • Donot freeze too much food at a time; the faster the food is freezes, the more it will retain its qualities. Also, be sure to pack your food before freezing, so that it retains all its flavour and does not ruin the other products.
  • Before freezing, label the packages of cooked foods and fresh products to make them easy to identify and write the contents and the date of freezing on the label.
  • The storage period of frozen foods depends on the type of food. Refer to the instructions on the packaging.
  • Do not eat food that has exceeded the maximum storage time, as it could cause food poisoning.
  • WARNING: Bottles and cans should not be placed in the freezer compartment. They can burst when the contents freeze, and sodas can even explode! Never store soda, juice, beer, sparkling wine, etc. in the freezer compartment.
  • WARNING: Do not put ice cream or ice in your mouth immediately after taking them out of the freezer compartment. Very cold ice can freeze on your lips or tongue and hurt you.
  • WARNING: Do not touch frozen foods with wet hands. The ice could stick your hands to the food.
  • WARNING: Do not use or place electrical appliances (for example electric ice cream makers, blenders, etc.) in the refrigerator and/or the freezer.
  • WARNING: The freezer section of the appliance may not work properly (risk of thawing of the contents or temperature too high in the frozen food compartment) when the appliance is placed for a prolonged period at a room temperature lower than that for which it is designed.

MAKING ICE CUBES
To make ice cubes, fill an ice cube tray three-quarters full of cold water, and place it in the freezer for more than 2 hours.
To remove the ice cubes, slightly bend the tray or place it under running water for a few seconds.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

DEFROSTING
REFRIGERATOR COMPARTMENT
Your refrigerator’s defrosting system is automatic. The back of the appliance gets covered with frost when the compressor is running and defrosts when the compressor is off. When the frost melts, the water evaporates on its own.
FREEZER COMPARTMENT

  • The freezer compartment must always be defrosted when the frost layer has reached a thickness of about 4 mm. In all cases, this compartment must be defrosted at least once a year.
  • Todefrost, use a squeegee or any plastic utensil, but never use metal instruments, de-icing products or electric appliances such as hair dryers, steam cleaners, etc.

Unplug the appliance before defrosting.
To defrost the appliance:

  • Choose a time when your appliance is not full.
  • Pack frozen foods in a freezer bag and keep them in a cool place.
  • Leave the door open and sponge as the ice melts.
  • To speed up the defrosting process, you can place a container with hot water in the compartment and close the door.
  • When defrosting is complete, clean your appliance.

CLEANING
Unplug the appliance before cleaning.
We recommend that you regularly clean and disinfect your appliance.

  1. Remove frozen food and fresh food from the refrigerator. Wrap frozen foods in several layers of newspaper, cover them and store them ina cool place.boulanger RDL 145 55b3 2 Door Refrigerator - Cleaning
  2. Defrost the freezer compartment before cleaning.
  3. Clean the inside of the appliance and accessories with a soft sponge and warm soapy water.
  4. After cleaning, rinse with clean water and dry the parts thoroughly.
  5. Check the discharge outlet on the back wall of the refrigerator (see photo below) to make sure it is not obstructed and clean it out by inserting a cotton swab into the hole if necessary.
  6. Once everything is dry, the appliance can be turned back on.
  • Never clean the appliance with a steam cleaner. Moisture could accumulate in the electrical components, causing a risk of electric shock ! Hot steam can damage plastic parts.
  • In order to avoid any impact on its electrical insulation properties, do not pour water into the appliance to clean it.
  • Do not clean glass shelves with hot water when they are cold. The glass could break due to sudden changes in temperature and cause personal injury or property damage.
  • The door seals must be kept clean at all times. Clean them with hot water and thoroughly dry them.

Never use abrasive or caustic products, or sponges with scouring pads to clean the inside or outside of your appliance.
IMPORTANT: When the plastic parts of the refrigerator remain stained with oil for a long time (animal or vegetable), they deteriorate easily and can crack. Clean and wash the dirty parts with hot water immediately.
The drainage mechanism can get dirty very easily and cause unpleasant odours; get into the habit of cleaning it regularly (see the “Cleaning” section).
