Precautions

Do not use:

  • If you have a bleeding disorder.
  • If you are on HIV treatment (ARVs).
  • If you are needle-phobic.
  • If the kit box or components are broken.
  • If the kit or components have been used.

Do not eat or drink while you perform the test.
Before testing, you must read all the steps. Conformance with the test procedure is necessary to ensure an accurate result.

STEP 1: PREPARE

  1. PREPARE a timer and tissue.

  2. OPEN AND PLACE all materials on a flat and clean surface.Abbott Panbio HIV Self Test - Test device

  3. WASH hands in warm water and dry. If no warm water is available, rub your hands together.Abbott Panbio HIV Self Test - wash

STEP 2: COLLECT BLOOD

  1. MASSAGE and rub your hand and finger to increase circulation.Abbott Panbio HIV Self Test - MASSAGESymbols and Explanations

  2. CLEAN your finger with an (B) alcohol pad. Let it DRY for 10 seconds. Abbott Panbio HIV Self Test - CLEAN y

  3. REMOVE the lancet cover.Abbott Panbio HIV Self Test - REMOVE

  4. PRESS the (F) lancet against the finger until it clicks.Abbott Panbio HIV Self Test - PRESS

  5. MASSAGE from the base to the tip, and let 2 DROPS of blood fall into the basin (1). If you are having diffculty, wipe the finger clean and squeeze again.Abbott Panbio HIV Self Test - MASSAGE 1

  6. WIPE the finger with an (B) alcohol pad, and APPLY the (C) plaster. If needed, press on the plaster to stop bleeding. Start the next step immediately to transfer the blood.Abbott Panbio HIV Self Test - WIPESee the flip side for Steps 3, 4 and 5.

STEP 3: TEST

  1. SQUEEZE the top of the (E) specimen dropper.Abbott Panbio HIV Self Test - SQUEEZEDIP the dropper into the blood in the basin, and RELEASE slowly to draw the blood into the dropper.Abbott Panbio HIV Self Test - dropperPLACE the dropper over the well.

  2. HOLD the (D) butter boffle vertically, and apply 1 DROP of buffer into the well (3).Abbott Panbio HIV Self Test - DROP

  3. START the timer. READ the result in 15–20 minutes (4). Do not read past 20 minutes.Abbott Panbio HIV Self Test - DROP 2

STEP 4: READ RESULT

  1. READ the test result in 15–20 minutes.
    Read the result in a well-lit area
    Abbott Panbio HIV Self Test - READ 1 NONREACTIVE
    (Negative)
    Abbott Panbio HIV Self Test - NegativeA line appears only in the control region (C) area. There is no line in the test region (T) area. The test did not detect the presence of HIV; however, very recent exposure cannot be excluded.
    It is recommended to conduct a retest after 6 weeks from the latest risk of exposure to HIV.
    REACTIVE
    (Positive)Abbott Panbio HIV Self Test - PositiveOne line in the control region (C) area,btogether with one line in the test region (T) area, no matter how faint, indicates the potential to be HIV positive.
    Consult a healthcare provider.
    A reactive result must be confirmed by a lab test. Protect yourself and others. Avoid any activity that could transmit HIV to others.
    TEST DID NOT WORK
    (Invalid)Abbott Panbio HIV Self Test - InvalidIf no line appears in the control region (C) area, even if a line appears in the test region (T) area, the test did not work.
    Test again using a new kit, or consult a healthcare provider.

STEP 5: DISPOSE

  1. PLACE all used components into the (G) disposal bag.Abbott Panbio HIV Self Test - disposal bag

  2. SEAL the (G) disposal bag tightly.

  3. THROW AWAY the (G) disposal bag in the waste bin.

Blood can transmit infectious diseases.
Clean up spills
Dispose in accordance with local regulations.
