  • No modification or repair of the flame paths is allowed.
  • Installation and maintenance of «Ex» devices must be performed by an authorized electrician, according to applicable standards and to the present instruction sheet.
  • Cables must be selected according to IEC 60079- 14 standard.
  • Accessories used in safety extra low voltage circuits (SELV) must not have an earth contact (the use of an earth contact is permitted in protective extra low voltage PELV).
  • These devices must be used according to their designed destination. Respect their assigned ratings in terms of current, voltage, IP and their Ex classification (see EU declaration).
  • For optimum operation, ensure that the flexible cable does not hinder the return of the device to its rest position.
  • Any additional components used (e.g. cable entry, adaptor, blanking cap, etc.) must be certified with (a) protection mode(s) and IP rating that are compatible with and maintain the rating of the device they are used with. They must be installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

SELF-EJECTING DEVICES

  • Make sure the tension cord is shorter than the flexible cable.
  • Make sure the ejected device :
    • is not likely to harm anyone in the vicinity ;
    • is not likely to be damaged or damage any surrounding equipment.
  • Make sure the pulling angle of the tension cord does not exceed 45° from the axis of the handle.
  • Where there is a risk of deformation of the surface on which the device is installed, care must be taken to prevent the transmission of this deformation to the device or its surface box.
  • Risk of electrostatic charges : use a cloth slightly soaked in soapy water for cleaning.
  • Respect the recommended tightening torques (see table T1)..MARECHAL-ELECTRIC-DXN-Industrial-ATEX-Plug-Socket-Switch-Single-Phase-fig-1
  • Poly box closing screws must be tightened at a torque of 1.2 Nm.
  • Apply without excess the necessary torque to tighten self-tapping screws.
  • DXNs can be used without any particular mechanical precautions except for the DXN1 which should not be exposed to mechanical impacts superior to 4 joules.
  • MARECHAL® devices must be used with MARECHAL® complementary devices only. Any repair or service must be achieved with genuine MARECHAL® parts only.
  • Rules impose that any replacement of component must be performed under the control of the manufacturer MARECHAL ELECTRIC S.A.S.

INSTALLATION

  • Panel mounting devices must be assembled on an ‘Ex e’ increased safety enclosure according to the drilling figure F1.

To ease their operation, the devices must be installed as follows :

  • Install socket-outlets with the latch at the top (Figure C1), or on the side in case of risk of accumulation of foreign material inside the cover.
  • Install appliance inlets with the catch at the top. The use of connectors with cover opening at 180° may be necessary. See figure C2 ;
  • When this is not possible, install appliance inlets with the catch at the bottom. See figure C3 ;

WIRING

  • The contact terminals are spring assisted to prevent loosening due to strand settlement, vibration or thermal cycling.

Conductors preparation

  • Remove an adequate length of cable outer sheath according to the accessory used.
  • Ensure that the cable sheathing extends through the cord grip into the handle or box as required to achieve the intended sealing and cord gripping performance.
  • Strip conductor insulation to the length indicated. See table T1 (DXN1/ other conductor sizes can be used with the help of specific amplifier lugs).
  • Do not back terminal screws completely out ;
  • Fully insert the conductor and tighten the terminal screws to the torque indicated. See table T1.
SELF-EJECTING DEVICES

Tension cord

The release of the latch is performed by a tension cord. One end of this cord must be attached either to the flexible cable or to a suitable fixed point of the installation. The other end is attached to the latch release mechanism. Latch release mechanism

This mechanism comes in two different types:

  • Ejecting connector: The retaining latch is directly activated by the tension cord in case of traction. See figure E1.
  • Ejecting plug: A mechanism is assembled on the plug. It releases the retaining latch of the socket-outlet in case of traction on the tension cord. See figure E2.

Eyelet

Handles are equipped with an eyelet. This eyelet allows an optimal pulling angle of the tension cord on the latch release mechanism.

Assembly

The end of the tension cord that must be attached either to the flexible cable or to a suitable fixed point of the installation is equipped with a loop. A crimping ferrule is supplied to loop the other end of the cord, once it has been passed through the handle eyelet, the latch release mechanism, and cut to the adequate length.

Cable tie

  • A cable tie is supplied, to attach the loop of the tension cord onto the flexible cable.

COLOUR CODED RINGS

  • Insert a color-coded ring between the device and its rear accessory (handle, angle, etc.).
  • The two protrusions of the rings must be positioned on the latch side for the socket outlet/ connector and on the catch side for the plug/inlet.
  • This ring acts as a seal.

OPERATION

See figure F2

  • Only devices with compatible contact configurations and electrical ratings will mate with each other.
  • The socket-outlet is shielded by a protective lid held in the closed position by a latch. Depress this latch to release the lid.
  • To connect, align the red marks on the housings. Insert the device and turn clockwise until the stop. The device is in the rest position, circuit open.
  • Push the device fully home until latched.
  • To disconnect, depress the latch. The device returns to its rest position.
  • Turn the device in the opposite direction to remove it. Shut the lid.

SELF-EJECTING DEVICES

  1. Lift the latch to release and open the lid.
  2. Align the plug/inlet catch with the socket-outlet retaining latch and push the mobile part fully home until it is held in place by the latch.
  3. To release the mobile part, pull on the tension cord. Check that the cover is properly closed.

SOCKET-OUTLET LOCKING (OPTION)

(Not available in SELF-EJECTING VERSION)

  • Padlocking: cover closed, insert the metal shaft into the hole provided on the socket-outlet and then place one or more padlock(s) or another locking device.

MAINTENANCE

  • IEC/EN 60079-17 standard : Explosive atmospheres – Part 17 : «Electrical installations inspection and maintenance», foresees very strict requirements regarding the maintenance of electric installations which must be imperatively respected.
  • Ensure that the fixing screws, caps and cable glands are tight.
  • Verify that the weight of the cable is supported by the strain relief mechanism and not by the terminal connections.
  • Check the cleanliness of contacts.
  • To inspect the contacts, depress the spring-loaded ejection ring on two opposite points. The safety shutter can then be rotated clockwise to inspect contact tips.
  • Any deposit can be rubbed off with a clean cloth or compressed air.
  • In case of damage, contact your supplier to have them replaced by the manufacturer.
  • Do not forget to re-lock the safety shutter after inspection.
  • To clean the device, do not use any solvent.
  • Inspect periodically IP gaskets for wear and resilience. Replace as required.
  • Check regularly the continuity of the earth circuit by electric tests.

SELF-EJECTING DEVICES

  • Check from time to time the state of the tension cord, of the cable clamp and the free motion of the ejection mechanism.
