5.4 Battery Basic Voltage, Current, Temperature protections settings

  • LPPW48V50AH16S1PF001 is designed with all the comprehensive protections on voltage, current, temperature.
  • System not only monitors and protects the on total voltage but also on each cell.
  • System firstly gives alarm when voltage, current, temp. reached the warning threshold, afterward protections will be triggered.
  • Alarm before protection can give customers safe buffer time to take any actions if needed.

5.5 Short Circuit Protection

  • Trigger conditions: When a short circuit occurs between the discharge outputs P+ and P-, and the short circuit current is greater than 150A, the short circuit protection is triggered, the discharge is turned off, and the system alarms short circuit protection and reports & record’s the fault.
  • Release conditions: automatically release after 30S, but more than 3 consecutive short circuits, system will be locked and no automatic recovery, need to charge or reset the battery to release. When releasing the short-circuit protection by pressing the reset button, the short-circuit load must first be disconnected.

5.6 Temperature Protections

  • System firstly gives alarm when temp. reaches at the warning point on high or low temp. condition,
  • System will cut off the charge and discharge if reaches at the temp. protections threshold,

5.7 Charging Passive Balance

  • In the charging state, when the cell voltage is greater than the equalization turn-on voltage, and the voltage difference with the lowest single cell is greater than the equalization turn-on voltage difference, the equalization function is turned on.
When the voltage difference between the cell voltage and the lowest cell cell is less than the equalization closing voltage difference, the equalization is stopped.

5.8 Active Balance Module (from pack to pack for parallel connections – active energy transfer module)

  • With LiTech high-advanced active energy-transfer technology, multi LPPW48V50AH16S1PF001 batteries can be connected in parallel without any risks, no limitations to increase the capacity and current, according to the formulas. 1/R=1/R1+1/R2+1/R3+ … +1/Rn, I=U/R, we can see when more packs are paralleled up, the resistance is becoming less and less, so if the battery packs’ voltages are slightly different from each others, the current in loop can be up to thousands amperes or even higher, if without active energy-transfer module, all cells and electronics are on high risks to be burnt from the high current.
  • When LPPW48V50AH16S1PF001 are connected in parallel, the voltage of the system does not change, but the current are additive.
  • Taking example of 6 packs in parallel connection below, to understand why we must implement the Active Energy Transfer ModuleLiTech POWER LPPW48V50AH16S1PF001 PowerWall Energy Storage System - Balance Module
  • We can clearly see the total resistance is getting lower and lower when more batteries are paralled up, the inner loop current will be also getting higher and higher, so without the Energy-Transfer Module, it is very dangerous for all electronics and cells to carry HIGH CURRENT in the loop, DO PAY ATTENTION on the ones without Energy-Transfer Module.
  • Please do pay attention when do parallel connections, all cables and connections MUST be able to accommodate the high currents that can be delivered by the battery. Appropriate fuses and circuit breakers are also highly recommended to protect downstream components from current spikes and short circuits.
  • Our active-energy-transfer module is implemented on LPPW48V50AH16S1PF001 together with our BMS, the module is triggered only when the voltages are detected differently on paralleled packs, it moves the energy safely from the higher-voltage packs’ to the lower ones to keep all the packs at the same voltage level, safely prevent the electronics/cell burning from high loop current.LiTech POWER LPPW48V50AH16S1PF001 PowerWall Energy Storage System - safely prevent
  • Multi batteries are in parallel connection (communication wiring as below)LiTech POWER LPPW48V50AH16S1PF001 PowerWall Energy Storage System - parallel connection
  • When parallel up batteries, please firstly make sure all batteries are OFF, then connect all batteries’ positive terminals with busbars (contact our support),
  • Then connect all batteries’ negative terminals with busbars (contact our support),
  • Use ethernet standard cables to wire up the communication protocols.
  • Connect battery mainly output wires to the inverter or your application, then turn on the battery,
  • If you install the batteries into a wall or a rack, please make the wall or the rack is level and stable.
  • LiTech Battery is with advanced technology of aromatic assigning parallel slave address, no need to swith the complicated DIP address unlike the competitors in the market.
  • Our DIP Switch is still built there for engineering use.

5.9 Communication

  • RJ45 PIN Definition for communication protocols
    RJ45 PINS| Definition| Notes
    ---|---|---
    1| RS485-B|
    2| RS485-A|
    3| NC| not connected
    4| CAN-H|
    5| CAN-L|
    6| GND| optional
    7| RS485-A|
    8| RS485-B|
  • The battery is integrated with isolated UART (for LCD internal use), isolated CANBus (for inverter), isolated RS485 (for inverter and our LiTech host-computer API),
  • To read and write new premasters or flash new firmware’s on PC, need use RS485 bus to go with LiTech programming tool, please contact our support,
  • Please use standard Ethernet network cable.

5.9 Precharge function

  • Our BMS has a pre-charging function for special adaptation to high-power inverters. It can start the inverter with an input capacitance of less than 20000uF. The starting resistance is 10 ohms, and the starting time is 800mS.
  • The Precharge function is only valid 800mS before the BMS output is turned on, and the Precharge function is turned off after the output is turned on. The inverter must be connected to the inverter when the BMS is turned off, and then wake up and turn on the BMS output before the inverter can be successfully powered on using the Precharge function. Because there are many types of inverters, and the power and capacity are uncertain, this function must be confirmed and verified by the customer several times.

5.10 History storage function

  • Our BMS has the function of historical storage. When the BMS appears or clears the alarms, protections and failures and abnormality, the BMS automatically saves the battery parameters at that time. It can store up to 500 pieces of information.
  • When the information is full, it will cover the oldest information one by one. Through the host computer, the corresponding historical records can be read and converted into Excel tables to protect the data.

5.13 System Installation

  • It is recommended to install on a wall or a rack, please make sure the wall or the rack is level and stable;

  • Single unit battery comes with only one cable set (1.5M 6AWG black + red),

  • For multi batteries system, the battery to battery connected by adequate gauge wires for lower resistance and better performance, the output wires to the load or inverter will be customized acridly, please contact our support for more details,

  • This battery system is typically design for indoor use, Make sure that the installation location meets the following conditions:
♦ The area is completely water proof.
♦ There are no flammable or explosive materials.
♦ The temperature and humidity is maintained at a constant level.
♦ The distance from heat source is mo. re than 2 meters
♦ Do not cover or wrap the battery case.
♦ The floor is flat and level.
♦ The ambient temperature is within the range from 0°C to 50°C.
♦ There is minimal dust and dirt in the area.
♦ The distance from air outlet of inverter is more than 0.5 meters.
♦ The installation area shall avoid of direct sunlight.
♦ There is no mandatory ventilation requirements for battery system, but please avoid of installation in confined area. The aeration shall avoid of high salinity, humidity or temperature.

  • After all is installed and batteries are correctly wired up, please turn on the batteries and your inverter/load, generally, batteries come as in sleep mode,

  • During storage and transportation, or after 24 hours without external power supply and load, the battery system will be in sleep mode. After adding the allowable charging voltage, the battery system will be activated and enters a normal operating state, which can be charged, discharged, or entering standby state. It is important to be noted that when the battery system is in sleep, the DC switching power supply used with the battery system must have its anti-reverse protection, so that the voltage of 48V can be used to activate the battery system after the AC is restored.

  • After the system is activated, if the external power supply and load are removed, the battery system will automatically enter the standby state. In this state, the power loss is extremely low, and the flashing RUN light on the panel indicates that the battery system is in standby. After 24 hours, the battery system will automatically switch to sleep. In this state, the power loss will be even lower, and the indicator light on the panel is completely off.
