Product description
This manual is for expansion vessels with a capacity of 8 to 25 litres.
The package includes an expansion vessel with label.
See the label for the maximum permissible system pressure and the pre-charge.
Application
Flomasta expansion vessels are intended solely for use in closed central
heating and cooling installations (with additives based on glycol to a max. of
50%).
Using other additives are the responsibility of the user.
For the min/max permissible temperature on the membrane and for the maximum
permissible working pressure: see the label.
Safety
Before you start
- Before installing an expansion vessel, it is necessary that accurate calculations are made by a qualified plumber. In accordance with the local legislation and guidelines in force in the country of installation, to ensure correct sizing.
- Don’t rush, read the instructions first and familiarise yourself with the sequence before you begin.
- Make sure you have all of the parts listed.
- Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury, damage to the product and your property.
- Any type of installation, maintenance and checking of pressure systems should only be carried out by a qualified plumber in accordance with the local legislation and guidelines in force in the country of installation.
- Product must be installed by a qualified plumber.
- Install the equipment in an appropriate space, which should be provided with adequate drainage and discharge so that any leakage from the equipment will not cause damages to the surrounding area, or persons and / or property.
Safety
- Do not exceed the maximum working temperature or the maximum allowable pressure listed on the vessel label.
- Install and operate Flomasta vessels only if the vessel is free from visible damage.
- Properly secure equipment, it is recommended to use anti-vibration systems to avoid damage or breaking resulting from repeated vibrations or excessive loads.
- The expansion vessel is delivered with precharge: damage can cause serious injury.
- The bracket must be able to carry the weight of a full expansion vessel.
- Install the unit in a sheltered place.
- Prevent overpressure in the installation. Install a safety valve.
- Set the opening pressure to a value equal to or lower than the maximum working pressure shown on the vessel label.
- The connection between the expansion vessel and the heating appliance must always be open.
- Do not overtighten threaded connections as this could cause damage to the product over time.
- Some parts could be hazardous to small children.
- Do not attempt to install a Flomasta expansion vessel into a heating system until the correct filling pressure has been calculated.
IMPORTANT – RETAIN THIS INFORMATION FOR FUTURE REFERENCE: READ CAREFULLY
Installation
The installation must be carried out by approved personnel only.
Observe local legislation and guidelines.
Flush the installation through before installing the vessel (never via the
safety valve) and check the installation for leaks whilst under pressure.
Fitting
Expansion vessels with a capacity of between 8 and 25 litres are installed
with the water nipple pointing up or down (A). (fig. 1) Ensure a suitable
mounting bracket is used.
Install the vessel in the return line, as close as possible to the boiler, on
the intake side of the pump. Install the vessel so that the water it contains
cannot circulate.
- Apply PTFE tape (B) (do not use hemp!) to the connection of the expansion vessel. (fig. 2)
- Connect the expansion vessel to the installation (T-piece or expansion pipe).
- If possible, it is advisable to place the optional connection group in the expansion line for easy maintenance.
Commissioning
If the factory-set pre-charge does not match the calculated pre-charge for the
installation, the pre-charge must be adjusted. The water side of the vessel
should be empty.
Remove the cover cap (C) and the plug (D) and adjust the pre-charge. Then
replace the plug (D) and the cover cap (C). (fig. 6)
In the commissioning sequence:
- Open a system bleed point. (fig. 3)
- Fill the installation slowly until the fill pressure in the expansion vessel is 0.2 bar higher than the pre-charge. Bleed the system during filling. (fig. 4)
- Bleed the pipe to the expansion vessel. (fig. 4)
- Close the system bleed point. (fig. 5)
- Heat the system as high as possible for half a day and bleed regularly.
- When the water temperature has fallen to approx. 50 °C, top up the installation to 0.3 bar above the pre-charge of the expansion vessel. Ensure that the filling hose is bled.

Care & maintenance
Maintenance and service
The expansion vessel and the pre-pressure must be checked yearly. Any
deviations found must be rectified.

Directive 2014/68/ EU.
A declaration of conformity is available from Kingfisher IP on request.
De-installation
- Allow the installation to cool down and release the pressure from it.
- Remove the cover cap (A) and the plug (B). (fig. 1 / pg11)
- Push the inner valve (C) in to drain the pressure from the expansion vessel. (fig. 2 / pg11)
- Unscrew the expansion vessel (D) from the system. (fig. 3 / pg11)
NOTE: A full expansion vessel is heavy!
The water in the expansion vessel may be hot.
