KUAT Grip 4, 6 Ski and Snowboard Rack

Product Information

The GRIPTM is a product that helps to transport skis and snowboards on the roof of a vehicle. It includes two GRIP racks, lock keys, a cool keychain, M5 Allen, (4) M6x25mm Bolt, M4 Allen (2) M6x18mm Washer, (4) Flip Mounts, and crossbars. The GRIP 4 can hold up to 17 lb, while the GRIP 6 can hold up to 23 lb. The maximum weight limit for both is 165 lbs. The maximum crossbar width is 4.25, while the maximum and minimum crossbar height is 2 and .5, respectively.

The product comes with universal FLIPTM mounts that can be used to mount the GRIP racks onto crossbars. The GRIP 6 features two forward mounting locations. Location 1 can be used for any standard crossbars, while location 2 can be used for narrow crossbars or a bias toward one side of the vehicle.

It may be necessary to adjust the angle of the GRIP racks so that they sit level relative to the vehicle roof. The angle adjustment bolt and the provided M4 Allen Wrench can be used to adjust the angle.

Product Usage Instructions

  1. To unlock and open the GRIPTM, slide the locking tab left to release the GRIP Rack handle.
  2. Pull the GRIP handle upward to unlatch and open.
  3. With the GRIP open, align one FLIP Mount and one M6 Bolt with the front bolt hole. Note that the M6x18 Washer is pre-assembled in this location.
  4. Thread the M6 Bolt into the FLIP Mount and tighten it with the included M5 Allen Wrench.
  5. Pull against the Tray Tab to unlock, then slide the GRIP Tray outward, exposing the rear mount bolt hole.
  6. Align the second FLIP Mount, one M6 Bolt, and one M6x18 Washer with the rear bolt hole.
  7. Thread the M6 Bolt into the FLIP Mount and tighten it with the M5 Allen Wrench.
  8. Repeat these steps for the second GRIP rack.
  9. To use the universal FLIPTM mounts, pivot the lever upward to release the strap.
  10. With both FLIP Mounts open, place the GRIP onto the crossbar in the desired location, looping FLIP straps under and back into the strap lever.
  11. Close the FLIP Mount lever and repeat for the opposite side.
  12. Snug mounts to crossbar by retightening the Strap Tensioner using the provided M4 Allen Wrench.
  13. Check the lever periodically. The lever should be snug, but not too difficult to articulate. Once straps have been properly adjusted to the crossbar, further adjustment should not be necessary to remove or reinstall the GRIP racks.
  14. Repeat steps 9 – 12 for second GRIP, being sure both GRIP racks are aligned with each other. Always check that GRIP racks are secure prior to travel.
  15. After each GRIP has been installed to the crossbar, secure the FLIP Mounts using the provided key and integrated lock on the side of each mount.
  16. To adjust the angle of your GRIP racks so that they sit level relative to the vehicle roof, use the Angle Adjustment bolt and the provided M4 Allen Wrench.
  17. After adjustment, confirm both GRIP racks are relatively level with the roof of the vehicle and retighten Angle Adjustment bolt.
  18. To load the GRIPTM, unlock and open each GRIP Rack. Pull against Tray Tabs to unlock and slide GRIP Trays outward. Load thickest skis first, with ski tips toward rear of vehicle. Keep at least .5 of clear space between skis and tray edge to prevent potential for damage when closing GRIP racks.
  19. Downward facing bindings may cause interference with factory side rails when using the slide out tray feature.
  20. Once loaded, slide trays in simultaneously to prevent binding. Close and secure each GRIP rack.
  21. Confirm tab is in the Locked position. Secure Locking Tab with provided key. Always secure and lock each GRIP rack when traveling or storing.
