Morenicol Wound Treatment
For topical treatment of external wounds and ulcers of pond fish.
A successful treatment of wounds on fish consists of 3 steps with the
following products: step 1 is sedation with Morenicol Sedation, step 2 is
cleaning the wound with Morenicol Wound Clean and step 3 is closing the wound
with Morenicol Propolis. In the Morenicol Medic Box these 3 products are
joined together.
- Step 1: Morenicol Sedation: It is important to perform the entire treatment quickly and with a minimum of stress. Fill a clean tub or bucket with pond water. Measure the amount of water during filling. Add 2 drops of anaesthetic per liter water. Mix the water and anaesthetic in the tub. Catch the fish to be treated and place it in the tub with the prepared anaesthetic solution. Don’t allow the fish to jump out of the tub. After a few minutes, the fish will lose its orientation and find it increasingly difficult to remain upright. The fish is sufficiently anaesthetised if it lies still on your hand when you lift it out of the tub. Avoid leaving the fish in the tub with the anaesthetic too long, since it can become so deeply anaesthetised that it will not recover. If the fish suddenly stops breathing while under anaesthetic, it must be put back in the pond immediately. Discard of the anaesthetic solution according to local legislation.
- Step 2: Morenicol Wound Clean: Lay the fish on a wet towel or similar surface. Remove all dead tissue and loose scales. Clean the wound thoroughly by dabbing it with a cotton bud soaked in wound clean; repeat this procedure until the whole wound is cleaned. A white film will form on the wound. It is important to clean the wound very thoroughly during the first treatment. During follow-up treatments, don’t use Morenicol Wound Clean anymore on this wound.
- Step 3: Morenicol Propolis: After the wound has been cleaned thoroughly, it can covered with Morenicol Propolis. This is a very adhesive wound spray made of bee-propolis. Propolis is known for its strong cleaning and nourishing effect. This spray not only closes the wound but also keeps it clean. You can apply the wound spray again every other day. In this case, do not clean the wound again with wound clean, since this would destroy the new cells generated by the healing process.
Put the fish back in the pond after treatment. If necessary, you can support the fish with a net while it is recovering from the anaesthetic.
If you have several fish with open wounds or holes, you can treat the pond
with Morenicol Cytofex® to support the healing process. You can also give the
fish food with extra vitamins. You can use Morenicol Vita-spray to add
vitamins to the food. It is also important to maintain optimum healing
conditions for the fish. Test the water and make sure that all the parameters
are correct.
The correct water parameters are: pH = 7-8.5, GH = 8-12°DH, KH= 6-8°DH,
Ammonia (NH3) and Nitrite (NO2) =0 mg/l, Nitrate (NO3) < 50 mg/l, Phosphate
(PO4) < 1 mg/l.
In case of doubt or when the fish are getting more diseased despite the treatment, always consult an in fish specialised veterinarian.
