Safety instructions

Intended use
This garage door is designed and intended for private use only.
Continuous operation is not permitted.

General safety instructions

  • Only specialists (competent persons in accordance with EN 12635) may fit, service, repair and disassemble the hinged garage door.
  • In the event of a door failure, sluggish operation or other malfunctions, immediately commission a specialist for the inspection or repair work.
  • A specialist must ensure that the respective national regulations regarding occupational safety are complied with.
  • Check that the door is in perfect mechanical working order before initial start-up. The door must be easy to operate manually (EN 12604).
  • EN 13241 specifies the application of the hinged garage door.
  • Pay attention to possible dangers in terms of EN 12604 and EN 12453 when fitting the door.

Environment conditions
ATTENTION
Damage caused by temperature differences
Differences in the outside and inside temperature may result in deflection of the door elements and foam break (bi-metal effect). There is the risk of damage during door operation.

  • Observe the operating conditions.
The door is intended for the following operating conditions:

Assembly
WARNING
Danger of injury due to structural modifications
Changing or removing functional parts may put important safety components out of action. Persons or objects may be trapped as a result.

  • Do not alter or remove any functional parts.
  • Do not attach any additional components of another make! The door hinges precisely match the door leaf weight. Additional components can overload the door hinges.
  • Observe the instructions of the operator and door manufacturer when fitting an operator. Always use the original connections of the door manufacturer.
  • Observe the following during fitting:
    • Make sure that the connection to the building structure is sound.
    • Check whether the supplied fixing materials are suitable for the situation on site.
    • Always obtain the permission of the structural engineer before fastening the door to supporting structural elements.
  • Make sure that there is sufficient water run-off in the area of the bottom seal and the frame parts. Otherwise there is a risk of corrosion (see fitting data).
  • Make sure that the building is sufficiently dried or ventilated. Otherwise there is a risk of corrosion.
  • Protect the door during painting and plastering work. Splashes of mortar, cement, plaster, paint, etc. may damage the surface.
  • Protect the door from aggressive and caustic substances, such as:
    • Saltpetre reactions from stone or concrete
    • Acids, alkali and gritting salt
    • Coating substances or sealing material.
Otherwise there is a risk of corrosion.

Please carefully follow the work steps listed in the illustrated section.
This makes fitting simple and safe.

Operation

Door operation

WARNING
Danger of injury during door travel
The hinged garage door opens outwards. Persons or objects may be trapped as a result.

  • When operating the door, make sure that neither persons, children in particular, nor objects are located within the door’s area of travel.
  • Always keep the swivelling and opening area of the door clear.
  • Do not actuate the door in strong winds.
Only suitably instructed persons may operate the door. When properly fitted and inspected, the hinged garage door moves smoothly and is easy to operate.

Manually operated doors
WARNING
Danger of injury due to incorrect operation
People or objects could be trapped as a result of incorrect operation.

  • Only open and close the door with the supplied control elements (controlled, even movement).
  • Make sure that the locking engages correctly when closing.

Power-driven doors
The automation of a hinged garage door requires observation of special safety regulations. Contact your supplier for this purpose.

Locking and releasing
The door is not locked when closed with the grip handle. Use the key to lock or release the lock.

From the outside:

  • Turn the key 360°.
  • Turn to the left to release.
  • Turn to the right to lock.

Cleaning and care

ATTENTION
Scratches on panes due to incorrect cleaning
Rubbing the panes causes scratches.

  • Remove any dirt and dust particles with water first. If necessary, then clean with water, ph-neutral household detergent and a soft, clean cloth.

Clean water is sufficient for cleaning and care. Use warm water together with a neutral, non-abrasive cleaning agent (household detergent, pH value°7) if more heavily soiled. Clean the outside of the door and the seals at least every 3 months. This is the only way of retaining the surface properties.
Different environmental influences may require additional protective coatings, see Painting on page 7. This applies to marine climates, acids, road salt, air pollution and paint damage, for example.

Inspection and maintenance

Inspections and maintenance work

WARNING
Danger of injury by defective safety components
In case of insufficient inspection and maintenance important safety components may fail or be defective.

  • Arrange for the inspections and maintenance work to be carried out regularly by a specialist.
Before the first operation, arrange for a specialist to perform the following inspections and maintenance work. Commission the work at least once a year by following these instructions.

Load carriers

  • Check that all fixing points on the door and the building structure are tight.
Tighten the fixing points if necessary.

Fixing points

  • Check that all fixing points on the door and the building structure are tight and tighten if necessary.

Lock
Maintain the lock and the locking cylinder 1 to 2 times per year. This is how the door can always be close easily and quietly:

  • Grease the back of the lock latch with Vaseline.
  • Spray special care products (available from specialized retailers) into the profile cylinder lock channel.

Seals

  • Check seals for damage, deformation and completeness. If necessary, replace the seals.

Malfunctions and damage remedy
WARNING
Danger of injury due to uncontrolled door movement
In the event of malfunctions, uncontrolled door operations can cause persons or objects to be trapped.

  • In the event of a door failure, sluggish operation or other malfunctions, immediately commission a specialist for the inspection or repair work.

Painting
The door infill comes with a polyester primer-coating. If you would like to paint the
door infill in a different colour, or if renovation painting or additional protective painting is required:

  • Lightly sand the surface with a fine sand paper (at least 180 grain size).
  • Clean the door surface with water.
  • Dry and remove grease from the surface.
  • Treat the surfaces with standard synthetic resin paints for exterior use.
Dark colours should be avoided for double-skinned doors and doors with thermal break.
Observe the application instructions of the paint manufacturer.

NOTE
The door leaf frame and frame are made of weather-resistant aluminum profiles.
Therefore, you cannot coat the door leaf frame and the frame with the same product.

Doors with decor surface finishes

  • Lightly sand the surface of the door infill with a fine sand paper (at least 220 grain size).
  • Clean the door surface with water.
  • Dry and remove grease from the surface.
  • Treat the surface with suitable acrylic paints for exterior use.
  • Observe the application instructions of the paint manufacturer.
    Avoid dark coatings.

Dismantling and Disposal

NOTE:
When disassembling, observe the applicable regulations regarding occupational safety.
Dismantle the door in accordance with these fitting instructions, in the logically correct reverse order.

Disposing of the packaging
Dispose of the packaging sorted by materials:

  • Cardboard and paper in the paper recycling
  • Film in the mixed recycling
