HOW YOUR PRODUCT WORKS

The Repeller is a powerful ultrasonic device that anyone who is nervous of dogs can use to drive them away. It is hand-held and fully portable, ideal for shoppers, walkers, postmen, joggers and school children to carry with them at all times. If used correctly it causes no harm to humans or animals and is the benign preference to sprays and other unpleasant ways of putting aggressive dogs to flight. It emits a high frequency sound that dogs can hear, but which is inaudible to humans. Sound is made by the ‘vibration’ of air: its rapid movement backwards and forwards. The unit for one backwards and forwards movement (a cycle) in one second is a “Hertz” (Hz). The number of cycles that are repeated in a second is called “the frequency” of the sound. Humans can hear frequencies up to 20,000Hz. Sound above this frequency is called ‘Ultrasound’. The Swissinno Dog Repeller emits ultrasound frequencies from 23,000 to 27,000 Hz. This sound-blast shocks the advancing animal, usually causing it to stop, retreat or ‘freeze’ before it gets near the user. It is most effective on alien, feral and hostile dogs. Its use with familiar, friendly dogs or domesticated pets may cause little reaction. Note that the effectiveness of the ultrasound can be influenced by factors like the distance to the dog, the dog’s age, disposition and its previous training experience (An animal’s ability to hear high frequency sound diminishes with increasing age).

TO REPEL A DOG

Point the Repeller at the advancing dog, hold down the ‘ON’ button for two seconds and release it. Repeat this rapidly until the dog is under control. The Repeller is most effective when it is pointed straight at the dog and its power is lessened when it is fired at an angle. It is usually better to fire repeated bursts of 2-seconds than a single continuous stream. A dog will hear the ultrasound up to 12 metres away, but the device is most effective and distressing to the animal at a range of 2 to 5 metres.

TO TRAIN A DOG:

The Repeller can be used a) in training programmes where it will reinforce oral and physical commands and b) as a conditioned-reflex prompt in projects such as subduing an excitable dog, chasing a dog off furniture and extinguishing bad behaviour. Note that the first time a dog hears the Repeller the unexpected intensity of sound may cause it to move away. This is quite common and nothing to worry about.

TESTING THE REPELLER

If the red LED shines continuously when the white button is held down, the device is working and the battery is sound. If the LED does not light up, replace the battery.

CHANGING THE BATTERY

Use only high quality alkaline 9 Volt batteries for optimum performance.

  1. Remove the one screw from the bottom of the repeller.
  2. Lift off bottom of case and gently pull battery out.
  3. Plug new battery into the terminals, then replace case bottom and screw.

The Repeller requires no maintenance. If cleaning is required, wipe the outside of the unit with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, or chemical agents.
