Prior to commencing the installation, it is the installer’s responsibility to verify that all components and particularly the template (Item 17) are correct.
1| Remove the following in accordance with the factory service manual:
-
Air Cleaner Assembly
-
LHS Front Guard Liner
LHS Guard mounted indicator (if fitted to the vehicle) -
LHS ‘A’ Pillar Rubber Wind Lacing Moulding
-
LHS Battery (Disconnect RHS Battery Negative Terminal)

|
3|
---|---
Align the guard panel template (Item 17) with the upper and rear edges of the
LHS guard panel as shown.
Tape the template to the guard panel with masking tape.
Mark all hole positions, including guard-mounted indicator relocation position
(if guard-mounted indicator fitted to the vehicle) with a felt tip pen. Remove
the template.|
|
4|
Drill a pilot hole for each of the marked hole positions. Use a 86mm diameter
hole saw to drill the snorkel body outlet hole position. Use a step drill to
drill the six mounting holes to 16mm diameter. Using the body saw cut out the
new guard-mounted indicator position (if required), and use a file to
correctly shape the indicator hole profile. Deburr and paint all holes.|
5|
---|---
Apply Loctite 243 to each of the stainless steel mounting studs (Item 7) and
install the studs finger-tight into the snorkel body (Item 1) mounting inserts
as shown.

6|
Carefully install the snorkel body (Item 1) to the guard panel. With the
snorkel body correctly positioned on the vehicle, position the upper mounting
bracket (Item 3) and mark where the plastic windscreen molding requires to be
trimmed. Remove the snorkel body.
7|
Use a sharp knife to trim the plastic windscreen molding, allowing
approximately 3mm extra at either end for clearance to the upper mounting
bracket. Re-position the rubber, A, pillar wind lacing molding and mark where
it requires trimming, only trim away the section which locks it into the
plastic windscreen mold.
8|
---|---
Fasten the upper mounting bracket to the snorkel body with hex bolts (item 4).
Carefully position the snorkel body onto the guard, with the snorkel correctly
positioned onto the guard panel and ‘A’ pillar, mark the 3 upper mounting
bracket hole positions onto the plastic windscreen molding (as shown). Remove
the snorkel body.|
9|
Drill a 5.0mm hole for each of the 3 marked hole positions, drilling through
the plastic windscreen mold and the ‘A’ pillar panel, removing the plastic
windscreen mold, and drilling the 3 holes in the ‘A’ pillar panel to 8.0mm.
Deburr and paint holes.
10|
Insert the plastic body clips (item 6) into the 8.0mm holes in the ‘A’ pillar,
apply a bead of adhesive sealant around each of the plastic body clips and
plastic windscreen mold where required, and fasten the plastic ‘A’ pillar mold
into position.
11|
---|---
Fasten the upper mounting bracket (item 3) to the ‘A’ pillar with self-taping
screws (item 5), and refit the rubber wind lacing mold (making sure it clips
back into position correctly).
12|
Carefully install the snorkel body (Item 1) to the guard panel, and align the
snorkel body to the guard panel and upper mounting bracket. When correctly
aligned, fasten the snorkel body to the guard panel with body washers (Item 8)
and nylon nuts (Item 9). Fasten the snorkel body to the upper mounting bracket
with hex bolts (Item 4).|
13|
Remove and discard the foam strip from the air cleaner housing inlet, remove
any sticky residue with a suitable solvent, trial fit the connecting duct
(item 12) to air cleaner housing inlet (if necessary grind or sand the
internal surface of the connecting duct to achieve a slip on fit). Apply
Loctite 243 to the 5.0mm mounting studs (item 13) and install the studs finger
tight into the connecting duct (Item 12) mounting inserts as shown.|
14
Install the
connecting duct to the inner guard panel, and fasten it into position through
the standard inner guard panel holes with 5.0mm body washers (item 14) and
5.0mm nylon nuts (item 15) as shown.
15
Apply a liberal amount of adhesive sealant to the air cleaner housing inlet and connecting duct, install the air cleaner housing and fasten it with standard mounting hardware. Secure the connecting duct to the air cleaner housing with a self-taping screw (item 5).
16
Remove and discard the wiring loom clip as shown, loosely install a 70/90mm
hose clamp (item 11) to either end of the air entry hose (item 10), apply a
small amount of CRC to both ends of the hose, install the hose onto the
snorkel body outlet then onto the connecting duct, with the hose correctly
positioned fasten the 70/90mm hose clamps.
- Install the black hose clamp (Item 16) loosely over the base of the air ram assembly (Item 2). Install the air ram assembly onto the snorkel body.
- Align the air ram assembly and tighten the black hose clamp
- (Item 16). Install the guard mounted indicator (if fitted to vehicle), guard liner, mud flap, air cleaner element, air cleaner lid, reconnect sensor wiring, re-install the LHS
