Chapter 2 Operation guide

2.1 Please perform necessary inspections before riding the SONGZO electric bicycle:

  1. Is the battery fully charged?
  2. Is the key in the open position?
  3. Is the braking system working properly?
  4. Is the tire pressure normal?
  5. Are the handles and seats of the bike firmly installed without anylooseness?
  6. Are the front and rear wheels locked?
  7. Are there any error codes on the LCD screen?

2.2 How to use SONGZO bicycles:

  1. When you have confirmed all the conditions and are ready to ride, first adjust the speed gear to gear 1, twist the throttle handle, and when the bicycle starts to move forward, slowly raise it to the gear you want.
You can make the electric bicycle work by twisting the accelerator handle or stepping on the pedal. Of course, if you don’t want electric assistance when stepping on the pedal, you can change the riding mode through settings.

  2. When facing uphill, headwind, poor road conditions, etc., pedals should be used to assist riding to reduce battery load and protect battery life.

  3. On downhill sections or turning sections, you should slow down in advance, and good riding habits can ensure safety. When using the Shimano transmission, please do not shift gears frequently in a short period of time, and do not shift gears across stages, otherwise your chain may get stuck.

2.3 What you need to know about batteries:

  1. During riding, frequent braking will result in shorter riding mileage. When the voltage is lower than half, please charge it in time. If you ride under the condition of low voltage for a long time, it will affect the battery life.
  2. *If you do not use an electric bicycle for a long time, please charge the battery regularly. It is recommended to charge the battery once a month. (Because the battery will discharge slowly even when not in use, if the battery is over-discharged, it may cause irreversible damage.)
  3. *The batteries of any electronic devices (such as mobile phones, cameras, computers, etc.) are not allowed to come into contact with water. If you find that water has entered the battery, please do not use the battery until it is completely dry to avoid burning the battery or fire. Water in the battery may cause damage to the battery/deterioration of life. Damage caused by water in the battery is not covered by the warranty.
  4. The battery is not allowed to be stored/used under the scorching sun or at a high temperature above 60°C.Be careful not to drop, shock or squeeze the battery to avoid damage tothe battery.
  5. When charging the battery, please use the special battery charger provided by SONGZO , and it is strictly prohibited to use non-original chargers.
  6. If you want to buy a spare battery, please buy the original battery in the SONGZO store. If you can’t find the purchase link, you can consult SONGZO customer service. If you use non-original chargers or batteries that cause damage to other parts of the bicycle (such as controllers, motors, batteries), you will need to purchase other damaged parts.

2.4 How to charge the battery correctly:

  1. Whether you want to take out the battery for charging or charge the battery on the bike, you should first plug the charger’s charging port into the battery  ort/bicycle charging port, and then plug the charger’s plug into the power source. *Please follow this order! ! !
  2. When the indicator light of the charger changes from red to green, it means that the battery is fully charged.Under normal circumstances, it takes 4-6 hours from a dead battery to a full charge.
  3. In order to ensure safety, the battery should be placed out of the reach of children when charging and there should be no other high-power electronic products or flammable or explosive materials around the battery. It is forbidden to use the charger in an environment with excessive smoke, dust, humidity, and direct sunlight. Do not use the charger during thunderstorms. Please maintain good ventilation and heat dissipation conditions when the charger is working.

Chapter 3 Product Maintain

3.1 Check for loose parts

  1. The torque of the handlebar, handlebar support tube, and saddle tube must reach 18 N·m whenlocked.
  2. The locking thrust of the folding lever must reach 15-17 kgf, and the release force must be greater than 5 kgf.
  3. The tightening torque of the front wheel nut must reach 18 N·m, and the tightening torque of the rear nut must reach 30 N·m.

3.2 About the lubrication of parts
Lubrication part: chains, flywheels, and headsets require regular maintenance.
Our suggestion is to drip a little lubricating oil (such as L-AN46GB443) on the position of the chain and the flywheel every month. Lubricating grease (such as SH/T0386) is added to the head bearings every year.
You can buy lubricating oil for bicycles and add it yourself, or you can add lubricating oil at a nearby bicycle shop. This is the most convenient method.
3.3 About chain
The best tightness of the chain: use your fingers to push/pick the position of the lower middle of the chain, the chain can move up and down 10-15 mm.
The tightness of the chain will directly affect the performance of the Shimano transmission.
3.4 Brake pads

  1. The wear of the brake pads in the front and rear brakes should be checked every month. If you find that the brake pads are severely worn, please replace the brake pads in time to avoid affecting the braking effect of the bicycle.
  2. Brake pads are consumables and can be purchased at SONGZO stores or local bicyclestores.
  3. In rainy and snowy days, the braking distance should be increased by more than 5 meters when riding.

3.5 Shimano shifting system
Regularly check whether the Shimano transmission can be used normally:

  1. Pay attention to the tension of the variable speed inner cable. The tension of the inner cable can be adjusted by turning the adjustment screw on the outlet port or the lead port screw of the rear derailleur.
  2. The “H” screw of the outer transmission is responsible for the adjustment of the high-speed gear (small flywheel), and the “L” screw is responsible for the adjustment of the low speed (largeflywheel).
  3. When using Shimano transmission to shift gears, if the chain cannot be shifted smoothly or the chain falls off, please adjust the two screws on the derailleur by yourself, or go to a nearby bicycle shop for simple adjustments.

If there is any problem with your Shimano transmission, you can take a video and send it to our WhatsApp account, we will give you adjustment suggestions or videos as soon as possible.

Chapter 4 Folding Method and Attention

4.1 Folding method

  1. For SONGZO bikes that can be folded, the folding handle is in the middle of theframe.
  2. Please stand on the left side of the bicycle, hold the folding handle with your right hand, and open the protective (fixed) buckle first.
  3. After opening the protective (fixed) buckle, pull the folding handle to the outside.
  4. Push the inner side of the folding frame with your knees outward to let the bicyclefold.

4.2 Precautions

  1. After each folding, you should pay attention to the exposed wires of the bicycle. Adjust the wires that are too tight, so as not to be too tight or rubbing causing the wire skin to wear and cause a short circuit.
  2. Please be careful not to drop, impact and squeeze the battery when folding the bike to avoid damage to the battery.
  3. The bicycle should be stored in a cool and dry place after folding.

Chapter 5 Error and Solution

5.1 The power cannot be turned on, and the bicycle cannot work

  1. First check whether the key is already in the position to turn on the bicycle. (There are three positions in total). Can the headlights and horn be used normally?
  2. Check the appearance of the bicycle to see if there is any broken/short-circuited wires.
  3. Check whether the power switch on the handlebar is normal. If it is hit or damaged, the switch needs to be replaced.
  4. Check whether there are impurities or poor contact between the output port of the battery and the contact of the controller.
  5. If you have a voltmeter, or your neighbor has a voltmeter, you can check whether the voltage of the battery output port is normal.

5.2 The power can be turned on, but the motor does not work

  1. If there is no error code on the screen, please check if there is any damage to the motor cable.
  2. Unplug the motor cable and plug it in again. (The interface of the motor cable is on the edge of the rear triangle of the frame.)
  3. Enter the setting mode of the screen and check whether the parameters are set incorrectly. You can ask GUNAI customer service for the factory parameters.

5.3 Error code

  1. If any error codes appear on your screen, please refer to the table on the nextpage.
  2. We recommend that you replug and unplug the wires of the controller and the motor after any error code appears, because the error code is likely to be caused by loose wires.
  3. *You need to pay attention to the operation one by one when you plug and unplug the wires again, so as not to forget how the wires are connected.
  4. If the error code still exists after plugging and unplugging the cable, please take a photo of the error code displayed on the screen and send it to us, then we will solve the problem for you or provide you with effective suggestions.
  5. When encountering any Error code, we suggest you contact our email or WhatsApp to facilitate sending photos/videos to each other. This is so that we can solve your problems faster and more effectively.
