Steps to check bladder integrity

It is important to allow system fluid to cool before undertaking any of the following steps. Maintenance should always be performed by experienced and trained personnel to avoid serious injury and/or property damage.

  1.  Allow system fluid to cool.
  2.  Isolate tank from the System.
  3.  Open Drain Cock or brake union connection.
  4.  Allow system fluid to exit tank (Adding air at Schrader valve until fluid stops flowing).
  5.  At Schrader valve, check air pressure (Fill to 25 PSI and hold for 1 hour). Ensure System Connection Drain/Union remains open throughout the duration of this process.
    • 5a. If loss of air charge is found, use a water/ dish soap mix to spray around all of the tanks openings where air could potentially leak. If no obvious signs of an air leak are apparent, check the System Connection drain to see if air is coming from the system connection. If a continuous flow of air flows from the system connection drain, this would indicate a failure of the bladder. Replacement bladder instructions can be found at below link. https://www.tacocomfort.com/product-category/products/tanks/bladder/ Here you can choose the type of bladder tank you have and find the replacement bladder instructions required for your style of bladder type expansion tank under documents.
    • 5b. If Air Charge is held, adjust air pressure to equal the fill pressure/minimum system pressure at tank inlet location then re-introduce tank into the system.
