controls & switches – rear
- OPTICAL INPUT – Connect the optical output of your CD/DVD player or set-top box or other audio source to this socket using an optical cable, for playing the audio output of the source device.
- AUX INPUT – This is a line level stereo analog input via 3.5mm socket. You can connect the analog audio output of any audio source to these sockets. While connecting to TV, ensure that the Audio Out setting is selected
- USB input – This is a USB input for playing audio tracks recorded on external USB devices such as pen drive, external hard drive etc. Plugging in a USB device automatically switches the input mode to USB input. You can play both MP3 and WAV format audio tracks. This is ideal for connecting your phone, voice assistant, TV or a CD player
- 5V DC OUT – This is a 5V USB charger. You can charge your smartphone or other device requiring a USB charger, while streaming music.
- MAINS OVERVOLTAGE PROTECT INDICATOR – Your Alaap/Bandish has a protection feature which automatically shuts off power to the unit when the mains voltage crosses a safe upper limit. In such case, this LED will glow. Normal operation will resume when the over-voltage condition has been removed.
- POWER SWITCH – This is a rocker type power switch which turns on power to the system. The ON position is indicated with a dot on the switch.
- MAINS INLET – This is an IEC type AC socket with built-in fuse. Connect this socket with the cable supplied, to a grounded AC outlet providing 230V, 50Hz power. Make this connection last, after you have finished making input and output connections. Please ensure that the AC outlet is grounded, which is in the interests of your own safety. There is a spare fuse included inside the socket, should you need to replace the fuse in the event the fuse blows. Always replace fuse with the correct type.
controls & switches – top
-
STANDBY POWER switch and indicator – When power is applied to the unit and the power switch on rear is switched on, this indicator will glow red in colour. This indicates that the unit is in standby mode. Pressing the switch will switch on the unit, and the indicator will turn off. Depending on the input last selected, the corresponding indicator for the input will light up.
-
INPUT SELECT switch and indicator – There are 4 input select switches – Bluetooth, OPT, AUX and USB, for the 4 types of input. The OPT, AUX and USB inputs are applied through corresponding sockets on the rear as explained above. Bluetooth input is applied wirelessly through smartphone or other source device having Bluetooth connectivity. To select the input, press the corresponding switch. The indicator corresponding to the selected input will light up. Please note that the USB is a priority input, meaning if you insert a USB device, it will automatically switch to USB input irrespective of whichever input is selected.
-
PREVIOUS/NEXT CUM VOLUME DOWN/VOLUME UP switches – There are two switches for selecting previous and next track of the built-in USB player as well as Bluetooth input. These switches also double as volume down and volume up switches, respectively.
Short press of the switch activates previous and next track selection, while long press activates volume up/down. Each press of switch causes the corresponding indicator to blink.
In volume up/down mode, keeping the switch pressed will activate rapid volume change indicated by a blinking indicator. However, once the maximum or minimum volume is attained, further press of the switch will not cause any blinking of the indicator. -
PLAY/PAUSE switch- This switch has 2 functions. Short press to play or pause the selected track in the built-in USB player or Bluetooth. This causes its indicator
to blink. Long press the switch to unpair the Bluetooth source connected to it. The Bluetooth indicator LED will start blinking indicating that there is no source connected.
operation
-
Your remote control unit comes with battery fitted, but there is an insulating sticker to prevent it from making connections and getting drained. Open the battery
compartment on the rear of the remote control by turning it anticlockwise, with a coin. Remove the sticker, and put the battery cover back. -
Insert the female end of the supplied mains cable to the unit and the male or plug end to a 230V 50Hz 3 pin wall outlet.
-
Switch on the unit by operating the rocker type power switch on the rear. The standby power indicator on top panel will glow red. This indicates that power has been applied to the unit, but it is on stand-by.
-
Press power button on the remote control unit, or the power switch on the top panel. The standby indicator will turn off and the corresponding indicator for the input last selected will light up.
-
You have a choice of connecting 4 types of input as the source. Proceed as below, to play music from different input sources
i. AUX – Connect your source to the AUX socket, at the rear, with a 3.5 mm stereo phone jack. Press the AUX key on the top panel, or the AUX button on the remote, to play. Change volume as required, with the Volume up/down buttons on remote or top panel.
ii. BLUETOOTH – Connect your smartphone/tablet/laptop or other device with Voice Assistant/Streamer connectivity by pairing with the Alaap or Bandish. For this, turn on Voice Assistant/Streamer, under Settings, in your smartphone. Next press the BT button on your remote or that on top panel. Search for Voice Assistant/Streamer devices in your smartphone. You will see the name Alaap or Bandish displayed in your smartphone. Pair with the same and play music from your smartphone. The procedure will be similar for a tablet or PC. You can pause a track or commence play from pause mode, by pressing the Play/ Pause button on remote or the respective keys on top panel or from source device. To select previous or next track, press the respective buttons momentarily on top panel
or can be selected via source device or remote.
iii. Optical – Connect your source such as the optical output of a CD/DVD player or settop box or A/V receiver, to the socket marked Optical, with an optical cable. Press the OPTICAL key on the top panel, or the OPT button on the remote, to play.
iv. USB – Insert a USB flash-drive or external hard disk containing audio tracks in .mp3 or .wav format. Inserting a USB device with audio tracks will utomatically switch it to USB mode and play will commence. You can pause pause mode, by pressing the Play/Pause button on remote or the respective keys on top panel. To select previous or next track, press the respective buttons momentarily. Note that since these buttons also double as volume up/down, do not press and hold, which will activate the volume up/down function. -
The Alaap and Bandish are protected from overdrive by a built-in DSP-based limiter. If the maximum undistorted output is reached, further increase of volume will not have any effect.

SYMPTOM | SOLUTION |
---|---|
No power on system | Please check: |
• Alaap/Bandish is connected to mains socket
• Power switch (at rear) is turned ON
• Please check the fuse at rear. If blown, replace with supplied spare fuse
No audio in BT mode| • Make sure you have selected “Alaap” or “Bandish” in the
pairing list on your Bluetooth device and connection is confirmed by your
device.
• Make sure “Alaap” or “Bandish” is not muted and the speaker volume is up.
• Make sure your Bluetooth device is playing audio and the device volume is
up.
• Make sure the transport controls of the audio device are set to playback
audio.
• Your Bluetooth device may be out of range – try moving it closer to “Alaap”
or “Bandish”.
• Move your Bluetooth device and/or “Alaap” or “Bandish”away from devices
such as cordless
phones, microwave ovens, wireless network routers that generate
electromagnetic interface.
• If possible, turn off all other nearby Bluetooth devices or disable their BT
functionality.
• Turn off or disable Bluetooth functionality on all other paired devices
nearby (including “Alaap” or “Bandish”) and reconnect the device with “Alaap”
or “Bandish”.
Distorted sound quality in AUX mode| • This can happen if the input is over-
driven, typically while being connected to a source that also has a gain
control. To resolve this please keep the DVD volume level close to min, and
then increase the volume level of Alaap or Bandish as desired.
