Safety information in the installation instructions is marked by a warning triangle and, in depen- dence on the degree of hazard, is displayed as follows:
DANGER
Warns of an imminent danger which results in serious or fatal injury.
WARNING
Warns of a potentially hazardous situation which could result in serious
injury or death.
CAUTION
Warns of a potentially hazardous situation which could result in minor injury
or material damage.
ATTENTION
Warns of an imminently hazardous situation that can result in material or
environmental damage.
INFORMATION
Indicates procedures in which there is no hazard of personal injury or material damage.
Safety measures
When operating electric devices, it is unavoidable for certain parts of these devices to conduct hazardous voltage. Consequently, severe bodily injury or material damage can occur if they are not handled properly:
- Before making connections to the device, ground the device by means of the ground wire connection, if present.
- Hazardous voltages can be present in all circuitry parts that are connected to the power supply.
- There can still be hazardous voltages present in the device even after it has been discon- nected from the supply voltage (capacitor storage).
- Do not operate equipment with current trans- former circuits when open.
- Do not exceed the limit values specified on the nameplate! This must also be observed during testing and commissioning!
- Take note of the safety and warning notices in the documents that belong to the device!
Qualified personnel
To avoid bodily injury and material damage, only qualified personnel with
electrical training are permitted to work on the device who have knowledge of:
- the national accident prevention regulations
- safety technology standards
- installation, commissioning and operation of the device.
WARNING
Risk of injury due to electrical voltage!
Severe bodily injury or death can result from:
- Touching bare or stripped leads that are ener- gized.
- Device inputs that pose a hazard when touched.
Before starting work on your system:
Disconnect the supply of power to the system!
- Secure it against being switched on!
- Check to be sure it is de-energized!
- Ground and short circuit!
- Cover or block off adjacent live parts!
Intended use
The module 96-PTS-60
- is intended as a plug-on module for the device series UMG 96-PA and UMG 96-PQ-L for use in switchboard cabinets and small distribution boards. The mounting orientation is arbitrary (please refer to the usage information associated with your basic device).
- is not intended for installation in vehicles! Use of the basic device with module in non-station- ary equipment is considered an exceptional environmental condition and is only permissible by special agreement.
- is not intended for installation in environments with harmful oils, acids, gases, vapors, dusts, radiation, etc.
Incoming goods inspection
- The prerequisites for trouble-free and safe operation of the devices and modules include proper transport, storage, setup and assembly, as well as proper operation and maintenance.
- Exercise due caution when unpacking and packing the device, do not use force and only use suitable tools.
Check:
- Visually inspect the devices and modules for flawless mechanical condition.
- Check the scope of delivery for completeness before you begin the assembly and installation of your devices.
If it must be assumed that safe operation is no longer possible, take your basic device with mod- ule out of service immediately and secure them against the unintentional startup.
It can be assumed that safe operation is impossible, for example, if the device with module:
- has visible damage
- no longer functions despite an intact power supply
- was subjected to extended periods of unfavorable conditions (e.g. storage outside of the permissible climate thresholds without adjustment to the room climate, condensation, etc.) or transport stress (e.g. falling from an elevated position, even without visible external damage, etc.).
Brief device description
This module enhances the scope of functions of the basic device and is available in the following variant:
- Module 96-PTS-60
Functions of the module:
- Buffers the operating voltage in the event of a power failure.
Capacitors provide energy storage and continue to supply the basic device with
voltage for at least 180 seconds if the operating voltage fails.
When this occurs, the display of the basic device is dimmed to 20% to reduce
power consumption (firmware 3.44 and higher).
After a complete discharge, the module is fully re-charged after 2.5 hours of
operation, at the latest.
Mounting
ATTENTION
Improper handling may cause damage to the module and result in material
damage! The contacts of the module connector can bend or break, which would
destroy the module. Never touch or manipulate the contacts of the module
connector!
- Never use force to press the module connector plug into the socket!
- When handling, transporting, and storing the module, protect the contacts of the module connector!
CAUTION
Disregarding of the installation instructions may cause property damage or
personal injury! Non-observance of the assembly instructions may cause damage
to your basic device with the module or destroy it and/or may also result in
personal injury.
- Observe the assembly instructions of your basic device.
- Disconnect your basic device from the power supply prior to mounting the module!
- Provide adequate air circulation in your installation environment and cooling, as needed, when the ambient temperatures are high.
- Before mounting, remove the transport protection from the module connector plug of the module and the protection from the module connector socket of the basic device.
- Send defective modules back to the manufacturer (see step “Dismounting”).
To mount:
- Disconnect the system (basic device) from the power supply! Secure it against being switched on! Check to be sure it is de-en- ergized! Ground and short circuit! Cover or block off adjacent live parts!
- Perform a visual inspection of the module connector socket. Check the contact pins for damage.
- Slide the module into the slot on the rear side of the basic device and use slight pres- sure to press it into the basic device until the module connector audibly snaps in.
- Connect the system (basic device) to the power supply. The basic device automat- ically detects the module and is ready for operation after charging for a maximum of 2.5 hours.
Module detection in the device
If you start the basic device with the module attached, the module is
recognized directly. The operation of the buffer can be queried via Modus
address 20699. A 1 in the register means the module is operating, a 0 means no
device has been recognized.
Firmware up to 3.42
If you use a firmware version up to 3.42, you will get the following error
message after mounting the module:
“Module communication error”
This error message does not affect the function- ality of the basic device.
The module will also fulfill its function and continue to supply the basic
device in the event of a power failure in this case as well. However, the
brightness of the display is not changed in this case, which reduces the time
power is supplied.
INFORMATION
If the supply of power is interrupted, the display brightness is automatically
reduced to 20%. A power supply duration of approx. 180 s is ensured (as of
firmware 3.44).
Dismounting
Dismounting the module:
- Disconnect the system (basic device) from the power supply! Secure it against being switched on! Check to be sure it is de-energized! Ground and short circuit! Cover or block off adiacent live parts!
- Unsnap your module by carefully lifting the snapping mechanism (using your fingernail or a screwdriver, if necessary) and pull it out of the slot.
ATTENTION
Handling your module too roughly may cause damage to the module and result in
material damage! When snapping in the module, the snapping mechanism can be
damaged or broken off.
Lift the snapping mechanism with care and using only slight pressure!
Preferably use your fingernail (or a screwdriver, if necessary) to do so.
ATTENTION
- Dismounting or disconnecting the module while it is communicating with the basic device will result in a device fault!
- If communication between the basic device to the module is lacking or faulty during operation, a warning signal will appear on the display of the basic device.
- Disconnect your system (basic device) from the power supply prior to dismounting or disconnecting the module! Secure it against being switched back on! Check to be sure it is de-energized! Ground and short circuit! Cover or block off adjacent live parts!
Technical data
INFORMATION
Technical data on the basic device and infor-mation on how to proceed in the
event of a fault can be found in the usage information of the basic devices.
