OBU FIXED INSTALLATION
Toll4Europe recommends providing permanent power to our OBUs using a fixed
cable installed by a professional service instead of the connection via
cigarette lighter plug.
The OBU package of the Toll4Europe OBU contains a three-threaded cable which
can be used for a fixed installation:
OBU connection:
- socket Micro-Fit 3.0
- 4 circuit receptacle in combination with a Molex connector
- type 43025-0400.
Vehicle connection:
- Cigarette lighter plug
- Whereas both, the ground wire (brown) and ignition cable (black) are connected to GROUND and the red wire is fixed to PLUS.
For the fixed installation with the standard cable, the cigarette lighter plug
needs to be removed
(i.e. cut off) whilst the Molex connector stays with the cable. The ignition
(black) and ground cable (brown) must be separated, and all three wires of the
cable have to be firmly installed in the vehicle to the respective connectors
(terminal 15 = ignition = black, terminal 30 = plus = red and terminal 31 =
ground = brown). Please note that this installation must be carried out in
accordance with the applicable standards and best practices (i.e. lege artis)
which also includes fusing the electrical connections with min. 2A.
****If a fixed installation is applied to an ADR vehicle, then the OBU MUST
NOT contain a battery.
The OBU will be powered by the vehicle’s board network – only during
loading/unloading the OBU is completely shut down (reboot) when switching off
the board network completely (separate switch – standard in ADR trucks).
Recommendations
- The installation shall be performed by professional services (i.e. truck workshop or car service)
- The internal (buffer) battery MUST NOT be removed for regular vehicles
- The internal (buffer) battery MUST be removed for ADR vehicles (carrying dangerous goods)
Re-use of cables from different suppliers Satellic:
The Toll4Europe OBU can be connected to existing cables of the Satellic OBU.
Adapter plugs can be reused.
Toll Collect:
As there exist different Toll Collect (TC) OBUs, a general advice on the reuse
of TC OBU cables is NOT possible as additional adapter plugs might or might
not be necessary due to the different voltage feeds. However, if a Satellic
OBU has been connected previously to “old” TC cables, the same connection can
theoretically be established (using the existing adapter plugs) under
professional supervision following the instructions in the manual. Especially
when using the enclosed TC cable, fuses must be used according to the
instructions in the manual, which also contains an indication of the cable
colours. On the top of this page, you will find information about what kind of
plug and what pin assignment is necessary if a connection needs to be
established.
