Product Information

The product is a PCL 3-18, which is a cleaning device that operates on a voltage of 18V. It has a water flow regulator, a motor protection switch, and a water filter. Product Usage Instructions

Montage: Follow the instructions in Abbildung C to assemble the device.

Inbetriebnahme: To mount the battery pack, follow the instructions in Abbildung G. To remove the battery pack, press the release button. Ensure that other people are at a safe distance from the device when operating it.

Betrieb: Adjust the water flow regulator valve according to your cleaning requirements. Do not use the device on surfaces where water is already present. Ensure that the surface to be cleaned is free of debris before using the device.

Transport: Secure the device to prevent it from slipping or tipping over during transportation.

Lagerung: Store the device in a cool, dry place.

Pflege und Wartung: Clean the water filter regularly to maintain optimal performance. Do not use the device if you discover visible damage.

Garantie: The device comes with a warranty, the details of which are not specified in the manual.

Technical Data: The device’s technical specifications include a voltage of 18V, a protection rating of IPX1, a water flow rate of 500-600/min, and a weight of 5.6kg. The device measures 770 x 395 x 240mm.

General safety instructions

WARNING

  • Persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities and persons lacking experience and knowledge may only use the appliance if they are properly supervised, have been instructed on use of the appliance safely by a person responsible for their safety, and understand the resultant hazards involved.
  • Children must not operate the device.
  • Children must be supervised to prevent them from playing with the appliance.

Note

Do not operate the device when other persons or animals are in the work area.

Safety Instructions for the Patio Cleaner

  • Please observe the requirements of EN 1717 when connecting this product to the drinking water network and contact your sanitation specialists if you have any queries.
  • Operate the device only with untreated, clean fresh water. The device must not under any circumstances be operated with explosive, corrosive or inflammable substances.
  • The water temperature must not exceed 35°C.
  • Never fully immerse the device in liquids.
  • Only operate the device outdoors.
  • Regularly check the device for damage. Do not operate the device if you discover visible damage.
  • Do not use the device on surfaces where water is already present.
  • Ensure that the surface to be cleaned is free of sand, stones or loose elements before starting work. These can be flung away during cleaning or damage the surface and the device.
  • Do not pull on the connected hose.
  • Only switch the device on when the brushes are on the floor.
  • Be aware of the recoil of the device during operation. The device pushes toward the operator when switched on. Hold the device securely and maintain a solid and safe footing.
  • Do not lift the device off the floor when switched on.
  • Protect the device from frost and excessive heat (permitted ambient temperature range of 5° C to 40 °C).
  • Do not operate the device in the vicinity of devices that are connected to electrical power.

The major device information is specified on the type plate. The location of the type plate on the device is specified in the “Device description” chapter.

Intended use

WARNING
Risk of injury from flung particles Use the device only on pre-cleaned surfaces and observe the safety instructions. The device is intended for the removal of soiling from outdoor surfaces, such as e.g. terraces. The device is suitable for wooden, stone or composite material (WPC) surfaces, according to the brushes used.The device may only be operated with 18 V Kärcher Battery Power or 18 V Kärcher Battery Power+ battery packs.

Foreseeable misuse
Any type of improper use is prohibited. The operating personnel are liable for damage resulting from incorrect use. Do not use the device for cleaning planted areas such as e.g. lawn checker bricks.

Environmental protection

The packing materials can be recycled. Please dispose of the packaging in accordance with the environmental regulations. Electrical and electronic appliances contain valuable, recyclable materials and often components such as batteries, rechargeable batteries or oil, which – if handled or disposed of incorrectly – can pose a potential threat to human health and the environment. However, these components are required for the correct operation of the appliance. Appliances marked by this symbol are not allowed to be disposed of together with household rubbish.

The scope of delivery for the appliance is shown on the packaging. Check the contents for completeness when unpacking. If any accessories are missing or in the event of any shipping damage, please notify your dealer.

Safety devices

CAUTION
Missing or modified safety devices are provided for your own protection. Never modify or bypass safety devices.

Motor circuit breaker
If the motor overheats, the motor circuit breaker switches the device off. After switching off, allow the device to cool down for at least 10 minutes. The motor circuit breaker resets automatically and the device is ready for operation again.

In the event of a repeated shutdown, observe the following instructions:

  • Do not exert too much pressure on the device during cleaning.
  • Hold the device at a shallow angle during cleaning.
  • Only use suitable brushes. The suitability of the brushes depends on the surface to be cleaned.
  • Use the device on wooden, stone, or composite material (WPC) surfaces only.

Assembly

Note
The handle is installed only once. The handle halves may not be separated again after assembly. Ensure that the water hose and the cable are not crushed during assembly.

1. Ensure that the cable and the water hose are not twisted.
2. Connect the handle until it audibly latches into place.
3. First press the cable and then the water hose over the cable from top to bottom (starting from the handle) into the left groove of the cable duct.
4. Press any protruding cable and water hose firmly into the brush head casing.

Note
The cable and water hose must not protrude out of the device during operation!

Initial startup

Installing the battery pack

  1. Push the battery pack into the mounting in the device until it audibly latches into place.

Removing the battery pack

Note
During longer work breaks, remove the battery pack from the device and secure it against unauthorized use.

  1. Press the battery pack unlocking button to unlock the battery pack.
  2. Remove the battery pack from the device.

Initial startup

  1. Close the water volume regulation valve.
  2. Connect the water hose to the device.
    • Attach the water hose. The coupling must audibly engage.
    • Secure the water hose to the hand grip using a hook and loop strip to provide strain relief.
  3. Connect the water hose to the water tap and open the water tap. Please observe the maximum water pressure (see chapter Technical data).

Operation

Correct handling of the brushes

Note
Use only the brushes suitable for the surface to be cleaned and the device. Observe the following instructions for the correct use of the brushes.

  1. Position the brushes evenly on the surface to be cleaned.
  2. Guide the brushes over the surface with light pressure.

Switching on the device

Note You must unlock the trigger in order to start the device. The specified sequence must be adhered to.

ATTENTION Material damage If the device is operated without water, it may become damaged.
Always operate the device with water.

  1. Insert the battery pack, see chapter Installing the battery pack.
  2. Press the trigger lockout button.
  3. Press the trigger. The device starts up.
  4. Hold the device with both hands.
  5. Release the trigger. The device stops.

Water volume regulation valve

Note The volume of water emitted by the device through the nozzles can be adjusted using the water volume regulation valve to suit the cleaning task.

  1. Pull the valve lever upwards / forwards to increase the volume of water.
  2. Push the valve lever downwards/backward to decrease the water volume or close the water volume regulation valve completely.

Cleaning wooden surfaces
Use the brushes for wooden floor coatings for cleaning wooden surfaces.

Note

  • Test the device on an inconspicuous area before using on sensitive surfaces.
  • Do not allow the device to remain in one area, keep it in motion.

Note Always clean wooden surfaces in the direction of the grain. Always clean along the floorboards or wooden elements and down the slope.

Note Pre-treatments may be removed from pre-treated surfaces. Uneven light-dark effects result from the type of wood or its treatment. It is a desirable result to remove the film on weathered wooden surfaces.

  1. Guide the device slowly over the surface.

For optimum results, apply a suitable care agent or preservative after cleaning

Cleaning stone surfaces

Use the brushes for stone coverings for cleaning smooth stone surfaces in outside areas (not included in the scope of delivery – for sources, see chapter Accessories and spare parts).

Note Remove any loose elements such as gravel before cleaning.

  1. Guide the device slowly over the surface.

Storing the device

The device can be stored hanging on a wall hook. You can also alternatively place the device on the parking edge of the spray guard. Ensure that the device does not stand on the brushes to prevent damage to the bristles.

  1. Remove the battery pack (see chapter Removing the battery pack).
  2. Empty the unit.
    • Fully open the water volume regulation valve.
    • Stand the device upright and allow it to drain.
  3. Disconnect the water connection.
  4. Clean the device (see chapter Cleaning the device).

Transport

CAUTION
Failure to observe the weight Risk of injury and damage Be aware of the weight of the device during transportation.

  1. Remove the battery pack (see Chapter Removing the battery pack).
  2. Secure the device against slipping and tipping over when transporting in vehicles.

Storage

CAUTION
Failure to observe the weight Risk of injury and damage Be aware of the weight of the device during storage.

ATTENTION Danger of frost Incompletely emptied devices can be destroyed by frost.
Completely empty the device and accessories. Protect the device from frost.

  1. Remove the battery pack (see chapter Removing the battery pack).

  2. Store the device in a frost-protected place.
    Note If frost-free storage is not possible:

    • Fully open the water volume regulation valve.
    • Stand the device upright and allow it to drain.

Care and service

Replacing the brushes

Note Always replace both brushes at the same time. The brushes must be replaced when the gearbox housing touches the ground while cleaning the surface without exerting pressure on the device.

WARNING Uncontrolled startup Risk of injury Remove the battery pack from the device during work breaks and before carrying out any service or care work.

ATTENTION Danger of burns The gearbox can be very hot after use. Allow the device to cool down before replacing the brushes.

  1. Remove the battery pack (see chapter Removing the battery pack).
  2. Unscrew and remove the brush fasteners.
  3. Pull out the worn brushes.
  4. Fit the new brushes.
  5. Fit and tighten the brush fasteners.

Note
Pay attention to the assignment when fitting the brush fasteners (left / right, as seen on the type plate)!

Cleaning the water filter

Note If the water flow is inadequate then the water filter of the device must be cleaned.

  1. Unscrew the plug connector at the water connection.
  2. Pull out the water filter.
  3. Clean the water filter under running water against the direction of flow.
  4. Insert the water filter.
  5. Screw on the plug connector. Ensure that the sealing ring in the plug connector has been inserted correctly.

Cleaning the device

WARNING
Uncontrolled startup Risk of injury Remove the battery pack from the device during work breaks and before carrying out any service or care work.

ATTENTION Improper cleaning Damage to the device

  • Do not clean the device with a hose or high-pressure water jet.
  • Do not use aggressive detergents.
  • Do not knock the brush on the ground.
  1. Remove the battery pack (see chapter Removing the battery pack).
  2. Remove soiling, plant residue and sand/stone from the brushes.
  3. If necessary, remove the brushes and clean them under running water.
  4. Clean the device with a moist cloth.

Troubleshooting guide

Malfunctions often have simple causes that you can remedy yourself using the following overview. When in doubt, or in the case of malfunctions not mentioned here, please contact your authorized Customer Service.

Device switches off during the operation

The motor circuit breaker has triggered Allow the device to cool down (at least 10 minutes). The motor circuit breaker resets automatically and the device is ready for operation again. The trigger must not be pressed during the cooling phase to avoid the device starting up unexpectedly. Always wait for the specified cooling time before restarting the device. In case of a repeated shut-down, reduce the pressure on the brushes while cleaning and hold the device at a flatter angle.

Device not running
The battery pack is not sitting properly in the device

  1. Push the battery pack into the mounting in the device until it audibly latches into place.

The charging state of the battery pack is too low

  1. Charge the battery pack.

The battery pack is overheated

  1. Remove the battery pack from the device and allow it to cool down.
  2. Do not the place the device and battery pack in direct sunlight.

The battery pack or the charger are defective

  1. Replace the battery pack or charger.

Unsatisfactory cleaning results

  • Dirty brushes
  • Clean the airbrushes.
  • Worn brushes
  • Replace the brushes.
  • Clogged water filter
  • Cleaning the water filter
  • Replace the water filter
  • Clogged water nozzles
  • Have the water nozzles replaced by an authorized
  • Customer Service department.
