niko 552-722X1 Connected Dimmer

Connected dimmer, 2-wire, Zigbee®

Wiring

niko-552-722X1-Connected-Dimmer-17

This product must be secured with a miniature circuit breaker (MCB) of max. 16 A in the electrical cabinet.
All mechanical push-button extensions wired to the same terminal, will show the same behavior (either the standard behavior of the actor or a programmed behavior). It is not possible to configure the behavior of these extension switches separately. The maximum total wire length for all extension buttons connected to the Zigbee® dimmer is 50 m.

Stand-alone use

All 230 V connected devices for Niko Home Control can be used in standalone mode until they are connected to a smart hub or wireless bridge. In stand- alone mode they switch their own contact. Mechanical push-button extensions that are wired to the extension terminal can also be used in stand-alone mode.

Connected use

Connected to a Niko Home Control installation

More advanced functionalities become available if you connect this device to your wireless smart hub (552-00001) or wireless bridge (550-00640) using the Niko Home Control programming software or Niko Home app. Consult guide.niko.eu for more information about the installation and the connected use.

How to connect the Niko device to Niko Home Control network

  1. Reset the Niko Zigbee® device if it is already connected to another network. See § Reset.
  2. Follow the onboarding procedure in the Niko Home Control programming software or the Niko Home app to add new Niko Zigbee® devices.
  3. Set the Niko Zigbee® device in pairing mode by pressing the switch button 3 x within a period of 6 seconds > See image § Pairing mode. The blue LED starts blinking for max. 5 minutes.
  4.  The connected dimmer is successfully added to the Zigbee® network when the blue LED is ON for 4 second
Connected to a third-party Zigbee® network

Niko connected Zigbee® devices behave like standard Zigbee® devices in third- party networks that allow this operation. Consult the manufacturer’s manual for more information on the possibility to use third-party Zigbee® devices in their network. Specific Niko Home Control functions will not be enabled with Niko Zigbee® devices that are connected to a third-party Zigbee® controller/ gateway. Consult the details on guide.niko.eu. See also the disclaimer on www.niko.eu/zigbee.

The first button press ‘Select Profile’ will indicate which lamp profile is configured in the dimmer (count the number of green LED flashes which are repeated three times).

Set minimum dimming level

Set the minimum light intensity
Adjust the minimum dimming level to make use of the optimal dimming range of the lamp connected to the dimmer. The minimum dimming level is set as follows:

  1. Dim the lamp to the minimum level using the dimming button in the middle of the base
  2. Check the intensity of the lamp:
    • If the lamp is on at the desired minimum light level, the dimmer is correctly configured
    • If the lamp still shines too bright, reduce the minimum dimming level using the MIN DIM LEVEL button. Continue to dim the lamp to a point where it does not flash or switch off
    • If the lamp is flashing or is completely switched off, increase the minimum dimming level in the same way
  3. Save the new setting by switching the dimmer off and back on. If the lamp does not switch on, configure a dimming profile with boost function (LED 3, LED 7 or LED 8)

Load table

The dimmable capacity decreases by 10 % per 5 °C once the ambient temperature exceeds 35 °C

By placing several dimmers on top of each other, or in an insulating wall (plaster or wood), it is possible that the temperature of the dimmer rises above 35 °C. The above power graph will then apply.

Troubleshooting

The dimmer switches off sud- denlyThe protection against thermal overload (temperature is too high) or short circuit has been activatedCheck if the lamp is dimmable. This is shown on the packaging bythe following symbol:Check if the load is too high. Remember to take into account the reactive power of ferromagnetic transformers. Led lamps that generate peak currents can also cause the dimmer to switchoff even if the maximum dimming power has not been reachedThe temperature in the flush-mounting box should not exceed 35°C. Lower the load that is connected to the dimmerCheck whether mixed loads have been used. Make sure that there is only one type of lamp load in the lighting circuitFor LED lamps: Test all lamp profiles one by one and choose the profile that works best. Dimmable LED lamps that require a boost function (which do not start up at minimum dimming) can be con- trolled with lamp profiles LED 3, LED 7, or LED 8.For incandescent lamps, choose lamp profile LED 1. For halogen lamps with a ferromagnetic transformer, choose lamp profile LED2. For LED lamps supplied with a ferromagnetic transformer, choose lamp profile LED 3. For halogen lamps with an electronic transformer, choose lamp profile LED 5.The lamp flickersCheck if the lamp is dimmable. This is shown on the packaging bythe following symbol:Increase the minimum dimming level or use a profile with boost function (LED 3, LED 7 or LED 8).Fit one or more LED com- pensators (310-05001) over the lamp, between the switching wire and the neutral wireChoose another profile and adjust the minimum dimming level.Refer to the FAQ on dim- ming at www.niko.eu/faqReduce the number of lamps in the lighting circuit or replace the lamps if the other actions listed above did not resolve the lamp flickerReplace the dimmer

I want to use the connected dimmer but I don’t yet have

a smart hub or wireless bridge to connect it with

| All 230 V connected devices for Niko Home Control can be used in stand- alone mode until they are connected to a smart hub or wireless

bridge. In this mode, they only switch or dim their own contacts. If extension switches are wired to the connected switch then they can also be used in stand-alone mode

The connected dimmer is not powered| Check the wiring and the miniature circuit breaker (MCB) in the electrical cabinet
The connected dimmer is malfunc- tioning| Replace the dimmer if the actions recom-

mended above did not resolve the issue

White LED continuously on| Normal operation when the connected dimmer is switched on and is used with LED feedback| The connected dimmer is working fine
Red LED is flashing| The connection to the smart hub or wireless bridge is temporarily interrupted| The connection will restore automatically. If it doesn’t, please try to power cycle your smart hub or wireless bridge and check if the connected dimmer is still within the range

of the smart hub or wireless bridge. Check guide.niko.eu for more information

Red LED continuously on| A protection mecha- nism is activated| Check the wiring and perform a reset of the connected dimmer. In case the protection mechanism is reacti- vated, reset the dimmer again and configure it to trailing edge. If necessary, reduce the load or replace the connected lamps..
Blue LED is flashing| The device is trying to connect to the Zigbee® network| Wait until the LED stops flashing
Blue LED on for 4 seconds| The device is connected to the Zigbee® network| The blue LED will go OFF after 4 seconds. The connected dimmer is ready to be used
