Getting Started:
Download the Alexa App
Download and install the Alexa app from your mobile device app store. Add the Alexa widget for easy home screen access.
- Open the app store on your mobile device.
- Search for Amazon Alexa app.
- Select Install.
- Select Open and sign in with your Amazon Account.
- Install Alexa widgets (optional).
Tip: Widgets allow easier access to Alexa from your device home screen. Alexa widgets become available in the device widget menu after you sign in to the Alexa app. On iOS (iOS 14 or newer) or Android devices, long-press the home page of your device and follow the instructions to add widgets.
Set Up Your Amazon Smart Oven
To get started, download the latest version of the Alexa app and sign in.
You can find safety, compliance, and other important information regarding your microwave oven in the User Manual (PDF). The User Manual also includes precautions for installation and operation.
Note: The Amazon Smart Oven only connects to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks.
- Select a location for your device that is at least 36 in (90 cm) from the ground. The device also needs at least 12 in (30 cm) clearance on top and at least 3 in (8 cm) on all sides. See the User Manual for more installation information.
- Do not place anything on top of the oven, or touching the sides. The external surface of the oven may be hot during operation or shortly thereafter. Use caution when touching external surfaces of the oven.
- Plug the power adapter into a grounded power outlet.
- Turn on Bluetooth and locations services on your mobile phone.
- Open the Alexa app .
- Open More and select Add a Device.
- Select Oven, then select Amazon.
- Follow the instructions to set up your device.
Note: It may take a few minutes to display the correct local time once set up is complete.

Use Scan-to-Cook With Amazon Smart Oven
Use the Alexa app to scan select packaged foods and have Amazon Smart Oven cook them at the appropriate settings.
Use Scan-to-Cook With Amazon Smart Oven
Note: For a full list of compatible packaged foods, see Amazon Smart Oven Scan-to-Cook Products (PDF).
To use Scan-to-Cook:
- Open the Alexa app .
- Open Devices .
- Select Cooking.
- Next to the name of your device, select Scan-to-Cook.
- Follow the in-app instructions to scan your item.
- Prepare your food as directed.
- Place your food in the oven, then press Start.
If cooking requires an action, such as stirring the potatoes, you receive a notification with directions. You can also receive an announcement via your Echo device, but you must have announcements turned on.
Set Parental Controls for Amazon Smart Oven
Use Child Lock to disable voice controls on your Amazon Smart Oven.
- Press Settings on the keypad, until you see Turn Child Lock On.
- Press Start to select.
Tip: When Child Lock is enabled, a lock icon appears on the oven display.
Use the Temperature Probe with Amazon Smart Oven
The temperature probe lets you monitor the temperature of your food while cooking.
Note: Use the temperature probe only with convection oven, air fryer, or food warmer mode. Do not use with microwave mode. Wear a heat-resistant glove to touch the temperature probe during or just after cooking. Do not touch with bare hands.
- Insert the probe into the food so the tip is at the thickest part.
The temperature is measured only at the tip of the probe.
- Plug the temperature probe into the inside wall of the oven.
The oven display shows the temperature of your food.
- Start a cooking mode by voice or keypad.
- Stop the oven when your desired temperature is reached.
Note: Auto-roast presets cook food to a specific temperature. The oven stops automatically when the correct temperature is reached.
Control Your Amazon Smart Oven by Voice
Use your voice and voice presets to cook food with Amazon Smart Oven.
Note: When you ask your oven to “cook” an item, such as “Cook 1 potato,” it uses microwave mode. Only use microwave-safe dishes and accessories with the “cook” function.
Microwave Mode Commands
- “Start Oven for 1 minute.”
- “Microwave for 2 minutes on Power Level 5.”
- “Cook for 5 minutes.”
- “Microwave 3 ounces of popcorn.”
- “Defrost for 10 minutes.”
- “Reheat for 30 seconds.”
Food Warmer Mode Commands
- “Keep warm for 1 hour.”
Note: When using voice commands, the food warmer defaults to medium (160°F). To use low (145°F), or high (200°F), use the keypad.
Convection Oven Mode Commands
- “Turn on the oven.”
- “Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- “Roast 90 minutes at 350 degrees.”
- “Bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.”
Air Fryer Mode Commands
- “Air fry 1 cup of French fries.”

Using Accessories with Your Amazon Smart Oven
Use the temperature probe, air fry pan, and short and tall cooking racks to cook food.
Accessories with Microwave Mode
- Only use microwave-safe dishes and cookware.
- Do not use cooking racks, air fry pan, or temperature probe.
Accessories with Convection Oven Mode
- The tall cooking rack and air fry pan are recommended with the convection oven mode.
- The short cooking rack is optional.
- The temperature probe is required for the auto-roast presets. It’s optional for other convection oven modes.
Accessories with Air Fryer Mode
- Use the tall cooking rack and air fry pan when air frying.
- The temperature probe is optional.
Accessories with Food Warmer Mode

Troubleshooting:
Can’t Set Up Your Amazon Smart Oven
Can’t complete setup or the Alexa app can’t find your Amazon Smart Oven during setup.
- Check that you have a supported Wi-Fi network. Amazon Smart oven only connects to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks.
- Check whether the Wi-Fi icon on the oven is solid or blinking. If it is blinking, Wi-Fi connectivity is not yet complete.
- There should be at least 12 in of space between your Amazon Smart Oven and your Echo device. The Echo device should be close enough that it can hear your cooking commands.
- All other wireless devices should also be at least 12 in from your oven.
- Check that you have the latest version of the Alexa app.
- Make sure that you have Bluetooth and location services turned on for your mobile device.
- For Android devices: turn off Low/Medium/Battery Saver power mode.
- If the Alexa app can’t find your device, press Settings on the keypad repeatedly to scroll through options until you see until you see Start Set Up. Press Start to launch.
- Make sure you select Oven during set up and not Microwave.

Scan-To-Cook Isn’t Working
Can’t scan packaged food or Amazon Smart Oven isn’t working with Scan-to-Cook.
- Check that your packaged food item is on the supported foods list.
- Make sure you are using the latest version of the Alexa app.
- Make sure that Amazon Smart Oven is registered and connected to Wi-Fi.
- Make sure that your camera’s lens is not blocked.
- Check that the oven is turned on and the door is closed.
- Make sure that the Alexa app has permission to use the camera on your mobile phone.
Amazon Smart Oven Won’t Turn On
If your device is unresponsive and doesn’t turn on, try these steps.
- Press any button on the keypad of your oven to see if the display activates. To save power, Eco Mode turns off the display after 10 minutes of inactivity.
- To make sure that the outlet has power, plug in another appliance or light.
- Make sure that the plug is fully inserted.
- Make sure that the oven door is not blocked and fully closes.
Alexa Isn’t Working with Your Amazon Smart Oven or Microwave
Voice commands aren’t working with your device.
- Check the Wi-Fi icon on your microwave to confirm that it’s online.
- Make sure that your Echo device and microwave are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Place your Echo device within hearing distance of your microwave. The minimum distance is 12″ apart.
- If you have an Amazon Household, check that you’re using the correct profile. Say, “Which profile is this?”
Amazon Smart Oven Display Isn’t Working
To save power, Eco Mode turns off the display after 10 minutes of inactivity.To turn on the display, press any button on the keypad. To turn off Eco Mode:
- Press Settings on the keypad, and press again to scroll through options until you see “Turn Eco Mode Off.”
- Press Start to select.
Ask Alexa Button Isn’t Working with Your Amazon Smart Oven or Microwave
The Ask Alexa Button isn’t working or is unresponsive.
- Check the Wi-Fi icon on your microwave to confirm that it’s online.
- Make sure that your Echo device and microwave are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Use the Alexa app to verify that the Ask Alexa button is enabled. Go to your device settings and select Ask Alexa.
- Place your Echo device within hearing distance from your microwave.
- If you have an Amazon Household, check that you’re using the correct profile. Say, “Which profile is this?”
- Open and close the microwave door. Then, try your request again.
- Reset your device and then complete setup again.
Only properly qualified service personnel should adjust or repair your microwave oven. For additional information about troubleshooting your device, including safety precautions and compliance information, consult the User Manual for your device:
Reset Your Amazon Smart Oven
If your oven is unresponsive, or you want to erase your device settings, you must factory reset your device.
- Press Settings on the keypad repeatedly until you see Factory Reset.
- Press Start.
- Press 1 to confirm and begin the factory reset.
After the factory reset, go to the Alexa app to set up your device again.
Deregister Your Device
If you no longer wish to use your device, you can deregister it from your Amazon account.
Take Action: Apart from deregistering your device, you can also manage your Kindle content, and many other account settings through: Manage Your Content and Devices
If you would like to give your device as a gift or wish to register the device under a different account, you will need to deregister the device from your account.
To deregister your device:
- Go to Manage Your Content and Devices and log in to your account.
- Click Devices.
- Select your device and click Deregister.

Applying Your AmazonBasics Microwave and Smart Oven Braille Keypad Overlay
The Braille tactile overlay is a sticker, sized to exactly fit the appliance control area on the AmazonBasics Microwave and Amazon Smart Oven, with Braille labels to help locate and identify the buttons on the appliance.
Read through all the following instructions before beginning.
To apply the overlay:
- If your device is new, remove the protective film covering the control area. If it is not new, clean and dry the control area before applying the overlay.
- A small paper tab identifies the top left of the overlay. Use the tab to fold the top square of the backing down. Do not tear off the tab because you will use it later. Be careful not to let the sticky part of the overlay touch anything until you are ready.
- Carefully line up the bottom of the overlay inside the bottom edge of the control area. Make sure the left and right edges of the overlay are inside the frame.
- Holding the bottom of the overlay in position, smooth it into place from the bottom to top. Take care to avoid wrinkles or bubbles.
- Pull down on the paper tab to peel away the rest of the backing. Be careful to hold the sticker away from the control area until you are ready.
- Use one hand to hold the bottom of the overlay away from the appliance. Use the other hand to smooth the overlay down from top to bottom. Take care to avoid wrinkles or bubbles.
- Scratch at a corner of the overlay to start peeling away its protective film.
Navigate the Settings Menu Using the Braille Tactile Overlay for the
Amazon Smart Oven
Use the Settings and Plus buttons to cycle through the settings menu items.
Note: The Settings key is abbreviated as set on the Braille tactile overlay.
Press the Set key multiple times in a row to cycle between available menu options. Use the Plus key (Dots 5, 235) to choose a menu option. Press Minus (Dots 5, 36) to clear the menu at any time.
- Child Lock – Press Set once, then press Plus to turn Child Lock on and off.
- Key Sounds – Press Set twice in a row, then press Plus to toggle Key Sounds on and off.
- Eco Mode – Press Set three times in a row, then press Plus to toggle Eco Mode on and off.
- Setup – Press Set four times in a row, then press Plus to begin setup. Press the 1 button to confirm setup.
- Wi-Fi – Press Set five times in a row, then press Plus to toggle Wi-Fi on and off.
- Factory Reset – Press Set six times in a row, then press Plus to begin factory reset. Press the 1 button to confirm reset.
- Send Logs – Press Set seven times in a row, then press Plus to send logs.
- Check Update – Press Set eight times in a row, then press Plus to check for updates.
- Show Version – Press Set nine times in a row, then press Plus to show version (need sighted assistance to read version).
- End of Menu – Pressing Set 10 times in a row reaches the end of the menu. Press Minus to clear the menu.
After a period of inactivity, the oven beeps once and exits the menu automatically.
