Introduction

Welcome to your PT-82 Tablet PC. To ensure the optimal performance of this product, please take the time to read this manual carefully. The PT-82 is a rugged tablet designed for use in correctional facilities.

Explanation of Advisements

In this manual we use three (3) levels of Advisements as follows:

• The Note symbol is used for notifying the user of something important or of something that needs special attention.
• The Caution symbol is used to inform of something that could cause harm to normal function of the equipment.
• The Warning symbol is used to inform of something in which there is a conceivable risk of harm to the user if the Warning is ignored.

Below are the front and side views of the PT-82, with component descriptions:

Charge LED Indicator| Indicates the charging status of the device.
MIC| Microphone for audio input.
Speaker| Speaker for audio output.
Lock| Lock button to lock the device.
Docking Connector| Connects the tablet with the Tablet Docking Station.
Headset| Connector for headphones.
Telephone Receiver| Function for voice calls.
Volume + Button| Increases the audio volume.
Volume – Button| Decreases the audio volume.
Power Button| Turns power On/Off (Hold 10s to Reset).

Product Usage Instructions

To use the PT-82 Tablet PC:

1. Charge the device using the included charger until the Charge LED Indicator shows a full charge.
2. Press and hold the Power Button for 2 seconds to turn on the device.
3. Use the device for your intended purpose, such as browsing the internet or making voice calls using the Telephone Receiver.
4. To adjust the audio volume, use the Volume + and – Buttons.
5. To take pictures or videos, use the Front Camera.
6. To lock the device, press the Lock button.
7. When finished using the device, press and hold the Power Button for 2 seconds to turn it off.
8. To dispose of the device, follow your country’s requirements for electronic waste disposal.

Managing Device Power

Docking station
You can charge the PT‐82 tablet using a Docking station. The docking station has a DC input and a USB Port, the docking connecter is shown in the layout Front view in chapter 2.

Use only the docking station included with your Tablet PC. Using other docking stations may damage the device.

Power Supply and Batteries

The PT‐82 device has one rechargeable battery. Android OS will give battery warnings at certain battery levels. If the PT‐82 device is not charged or powered by the power supply, the PT‐82 device will shut down automatically. For more information, more details about the specification, please see Appendix A‐ Technical Specifications
To charge the Battery Pack:

1. Connect the tablet to the docking station using docking connector.
2. Connect the docking station to an electrical outlet and charge the tablet until the battery is fully charged.
3. After your device is fully charged, disconnect the charger from both the device and the electrical outlet.

NOTE: To prevent damage to batteries, please see Section 8: Safety You cannot overcharge the battery. It is fine to charge the battery overnight. Battery life naturally degrades over time. Failure to follow instructions for recommended operating temperatures, charge and discharge rates, and other instructions may accelerate battery decay rates. If your tablet battery will not accept or hold a satisfactory charge, it may need to be replaced. For battery storage and charging temperatures, see Section 8: Safety

Checking the charging Level
To check the battery charge level of the PT‐82, the battery monitor is shown on the Android Top navigation bar.

Power LED Behavior on the Docking station

The Power LED will only shine when the Power adapter is plugged in.

• Green — Fully charged
• Blue — Charging

Using the PT-82

No special skills are required to setup the PT‐82 device. Follow this User’s Manual and the Quick Start Manual.

Starting the Device
Start the device by pressing the power button on the top of the device.

Shutting Down the PT-82

The device should be shut down in the following way:
Use the menu in Android OS. Hold the power button for 3 seconds then select Power Off/Shutdown. (recommended when possible). Should you be unable to shut the device down using the above, you can hold the power button on the top side of the device down for more than 10 seconds. The device will consequently shut down immediately, without waiting for open applications to close. Reset can be performed by holding the power button on the top side of the device for five (5) seconds. Using the physical power button to turn off the device is not considered a “clean” shut down, and is thus not recommended unless completely necessary because it can harm your device.

Power Saving
The Power saving settings in the PT‐82 tablet are preset to optimize the battery run‐time.

Using the Camera
The built‐in camera allows you to take snapshots or video of items from the display side.

Adjusting the Volume
To adjust the volume, use the Volume Up and Down buttons on the upper side of the PT‐82 device. For position references, see the layout in Chapter two. Volume adjustments can also be adjusted in Android OS.

Product Care

Temperature & Humidity

General Use – Operating temperature

The PT‐82 is best kept in dry conditions at room temperature. The recommended range for temperature and the humidity value for the device is as follows:

• Ambient temperature: 0℃ to 35℃ (32℉ to 95℉)
• Relative humidity: 10% to 90% (no condensation on the device)
• Atmospheric Pressure: 80 kPa to 106 kPa (600 mmHg to 795 mmHg)

Transportation and Storage
For transportation and storage, the recommended range for temperature and the humidity value for the device is as follows:

• Temperature: ‐20℃ to 60℃ (–4℉ to 140℉)
• Relative humidity: 10% to 90% (no condensation on the device)

Transporting the PT-82 Device
Disconnect all the cables from the PT‐82 while carrying the device. When you transport the device for any reason, use the original casing and packaging materials where possible. It is recommended to keep the original packaging materials for the PT‐82. If the device needs to be returned to the Device Manufacturer for Warranty related issues or repair, it is recommended that the original packaging or equivalent is used for shipping. Most shipping carriers recommend at least 2 inches of packing material around the device. Due to Joint Commission regulations, any shipping materials including boxes sent to the Device Manufacturer must be discarded and will be replaced.

Safety

The PT‐82 device has been tested and approved as compliant to all the Specifications and Standards listed in Appendix B Compliance Information, and in the Appendix A Technical Specifications. Nevertheless, to ensure safe operation of your PT‐82 device, there are a few safety warnings to bear in mind:
Do not disassemble this product. You may receive an electric shock, or foreign matter may enter and result in a fire. If a malfunction or trouble occurs, immediately turn the power off and unplug any power sources. Then contact your supplier’s technical support office for repair. Do not service or perform maintenance on the device while the device is in use. Make sure to shut the device down and unplug all cables before starting and service or maintenance work on the device.

Power Supply and Batteries

• The PT‐82 device contains one rechargeable battery. All rechargeable batteries degrade over time. Thus, the possible usage times for the PT‐82 after a full charge can become shorter over time compared to when the device was new.
• The PT‐82 device uses a Li‐ion Polymer battery.
• If you are in a hot environment, be aware that it can affect the ability to charge the battery. The internal temperature must be between 0 ℃/32 ℉ and 45 ℃/113 ℉ for the battery to charge. If the internal battery temperature rises above 45 ℃/113 ℉ the battery will not charge at all.
• Avoid exposing the PT‐82 device to fire or to temperatures above 60 ℃/140 ℉. These conditions may cause the battery to malfunction, generate heat, ignite, or explode. Be aware that it is
• possible, in a worst‐case scenario, for temperatures to reach greater than those stated above in, for example, the trunk of a car on a hot day.
• Only charge the PT‐82 battery in an ambient temperature of 0 ℃/32 ℉ to 45 ℃/113 ℉.
• Use only the supplied power adapter to charge the PT‐82 device. Using unauthorized power adapters may severely damage the PT‐82 device.
• For safe operation of the PT‐82 device, use only charger and accessories approved by Device Manufacturer.
• If the Power Supply Cord is damaged it needs to be replaced by Service Personnel only. Do not use the Power Supply Cord until replaced.
• Disconnect the AC power plug of the Power adapter from the wall socket when not charging the device and disconnect the power cable from the device.
• Special regulations apply to shipping devices containing Li‐Ion Polymer batteries. If dropped, crushed, or short‐ circuited, these batteries can release dangerous amounts of heat, may ignite, and/or may be dangerous near fires.
• The plug/adapter plug pins insulate the device from the power supply. Do not position the device in a position where it is difficult to disconnect the device from power safely terminate operation of the device.

Temperature

Use in direct sunlight or in any other hot environment may cause the PT‐82 device to develop hot surfaces. There is a built‐in temperature sensor that monitors the device temperature. If the sensor detects high internal temperature; the device will automatically trigger a Shut Down. It may take a while before PT‐82 device can be restarted as the unit may first need time to cool down.

Electricity

The device contains no user serviceable parts. Do not open the case of the PT‐82 Tablet Device. Doing so will void the product warranty and may expose you to electrical hazards.

Software

Using an antivirus program is strongly recommended. Software other than that which is pre‐installed on the PT‐82 is installed at the user’s own risk. External software could cause the PT‐82 to malfunction and might not be covered by the warranty.

Magnetic Field
The PT‐82 device contains magnets. Magnetic fields may interfere with pacemakers, defibrillators, or other medical devices. As a rule, maintain a minimum distance of 6 inches (15 centimeters) between any item with magnets and a heart device.

Third Party
Any use of the PT‐82 outside the intended use and together with any third‐party software or hardware that changes the intended use voids the responsibility of the device manufacturer.

Trouble shooting

In most cases, restarting your device will resolve any problem. To restart your device, hold the power button for 5 seconds, then select Shut down/Restart. If your device has crashed (and displays nothing on the screen), hold down the power button for 10 seconds to hard shutdown. Press the power button again to turn the PT‐82 back on. If this does not fix the problem, contact your supplier. Please have your serial number ready. This can be found on the back of your device.

B1 FCC Statement

This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions:

1.  this device may not cause harmful interference and
2. this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. Modifications not expressly approved by Device Manufacturer could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment under FCC rules.

Part 15B Equipment
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:

• Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
• Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.
• Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected.
• Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.

The device for operation in the band 5150‐5250 MHz is only for indoor use

FCC RF Radiation Exposure Statement:

B2 Radio Wave Exposure and Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) Information T he SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) limit as dictated by the FCC (in the USA) is 1.6W/kg averaged over 1 gram of tissue. The Devices, PT‐82 have been tested against these SAR limits to maintain compliance with FCC RF exposure requirements.

This equipment complies with FCC RF radiation exposure limits set forth for an uncontrolled environment. The highest reported SAR level for usage near the body (0mm) is 1.172 W/kg
