Product Information

The Breathalyzer EK918 is a device that measures blood alcohol concentration (BAC) in the breath. It is equipped with alarms that sound when the BAC value exceeds a certain level. The device is calibrated by engineers and can be used right out of the box. The package includes a breathalyzer, 10 mouthpieces, a USB cable, a user manual, and a storage bag. The device has a mouthpiece, LCD screen, power button, M button, vent, buzzer, charging port, and charging indicator.

Product Usage Instructions

  1. To take a test, press the power button to turn on the device. The device will begin counting down from 10 and needs 10 seconds to preheat.
  2. When the timer expires, the screen will display START.
  3. Within 20 seconds of the start, the user should begin blowing into the mouthpiece. Continue blowing for at least 5 seconds.
  4. Do not make changes or press buttons on the device during this step. The device will take a moment to analyze and then display the result on the screen. The result will be displayed for 15 seconds, and the device will then return to the home screen.

Test Results

  • Safe Level Detected: If the result value is lower than the warning value, the device will beep once to indicate a safe level was detected.
  • Warning Level Detected: If the result value is between the warning value and the danger value, the device will emit a warning series of three beeps.
  • Dangerous Level Detected: If the result value is higher than the danger value, the device will beep continuously for 15 seconds.

Testing Tips

  • Wait 20 minutes after eating, drinking, or smoking before testing.
  • Do not block the air outlet while blowing.
  • The testing data from this device cannot be used in court.
  • Drink responsibly.

Concentration Unit Setting

To adjust the concentration unit settings, follow the steps below:

  1. Press the power button to turn on the device.
  2. Click the M button to enter the settings page for the concentration unit.
  3. Click the M button repeatedly to cycle through the unit options. (The unit options are: %BAC, BAC, mg/L, g/L, mg/100mL, PROM)

Operation

To Take a Test

  1. Press the power button to turn on the device. The device will turn on and begin counting down from 10. (The device needs 10 seconds to preheat.)

Testing Tips

  • The user needs to blow continuously for 5 seconds to obtain accurate results
  • “Err” is displayed if blowing is interrupted. In this event, the device will automatically shut off.
  • If the user does not complete the test within 20 seconds of the “START” display, the device will automatically shut off.

Notes about Testing

  1. Wait 20 minutes after eating, drinking, or smoking before beginning to test. Not doing so can yield inaccurate results and damage the sensor.
  2.  Make sure not to block the air outlet (located on the back of the device) while blowing.
  3. The testing data from this device cannot be used in court.
  4. Drink responsibly.

  1. After selecting your desired unit, click the power button again to save the setting.

Adjusting the Alarm Value

Users can customize the values that will cause the device to emit alarms. It is recommended that the user adjust the values to match the legal limit in their region. To adjust the alarm value, follow these steps:

  1. Press the power button to turn on the device.

  2. Then double-click the M button to enter the settings page for the alarm values. The
    “Warning” alarm value will be displayed on the left and the “Danger” alarm value will be displayed on the right.

  3. The device will default to the setting for the “Warning” alarm. Click the power button to increase the value and the M button to decrease the value.

  4. Press and hold the power button to switch to adjusting the “Danger” value. Use the power and M buttons again to adjust the value (as in the previous step).

  5. Double-click the M button to save the settings.

Memory Mode

The device will store results from the previous three tests. To access the memory of previous results, follow the steps below.

  1. Press the power button to turn on the device.

  2. Once the device is on, double-click the power button to display the previous test results, starting with the most recent test taken.
    Note: Click the M button to display the results starting with the oldest test.

  3.  Double-click the power button to exit.

Powering Off

Press and hold the power button to turn off the device. The device will automatically turn off if it has not been used for a period of 15 seconds.

Low Battery Indication

  • When the device battery is low, a “Lo” indicator will flash in the upper right corner of the screen. Use the included USB cable connected to a power source to charge the device.
  • While the device is charging, the indicator light will display red. The light will turn green when the device is fully charged.

To view what version of the operating system your device is currently running, press and hold the M button. The screen will display the device’s current operating system.

Result Units Definitions

  • BAC: Blood Alcohol Concentration; the percent of alcohol in a person’s blood stream
  • %BAC: How many grams of alcohol are present in 100 mL of blood
  • ‰BAC: How many grams of alcohol are present in 1000 mL of blood
  • gL: How many grams of alcohol are present in one liter of blood
  •   mg/100 mL: How many milligrams of alcohol are present in 100 mL of blood
  • BrAC: Breath Alcohol Concentration; the percent of alcohol in a person’s breath
  •   mg/L: How many milligrams of alcohol are present in one liter of blood

Warnings

  1. Never operate this device outside the acceptable temperature range of 32 °F – 104 °F (0°C – 400 °C).
  2. For better performance and longer battery life, refrain from using the device in a static environment or during extreme conditions (e.g., near an open 9ame, in a thunderstorm, in a sun-baked car, etc.).
  3.  To clean the device, wipe the surface with a dry cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or detergents on the device.
  4. To prevent accidents, injury, and damage to the device, do not attempt to disassemble, deconstruct, or repair the device in any way.
  5. Even if the test result yields a permissible level, if the user feels impaired, they should not drive. The manufacturer is not responsible for any accidents that may occur from intoxication.
