Product Information

This product is a sewing pattern for a stretch fabric t-shirt with three neckline options – jewel neck, mock turtle neck, and plain neckline. The pattern consists of multiple pieces including back, sleeve, neckband, collar, and front pieces, with seam and hem allowances included.

Product Usage Instructions

  1. Choosing the appropriate size: Use the size corresponding to your bust measurement.
  2. Cutting the fabric: Tape front parts 1 and 2 together to create your Front piece. Use this new piece to cut the fabric.
  3. Stitching technique: If you do not have a serger, use Jalie’s sewing technique for stretch fabrics.
  4. Assembly: Pin front to back at shoulder seams and stitch. Pin sleeve to armscye and stitch. Pin front to back at side and underarm seams and stitch. Fold bottom edge of sleeves to wrong side by 1.5 cm (5/8”) (cap and short sleeves) or 2 cm (3/4”) (three-quarter and long sleeve) and topstitch. Fold t-shirt hem by 2 cm (3/4”) to wrong side and topstitch.
  5. Jewel Neck:
    • Fold neckband right sides together, matching double notches and stitch to form a loop.
    • Bring raw edges wrong sides together and sew using a zigzag stitch.
    • Mark neckband center with a pin.
    • Pin neckband to right side of neckline, matching neckband seam with t-shirt center back and neckband center pin with t-shirt center front.
    • Stitch, stretching the band between the pins as you sew to fit neckline.
  6. Mock Turtle Neck:
    • Fold collar right sides together, matching double notches and stitch to form a loop.
    • Bring raw edges wrong sides together and sew using a zigzag stitch. Mark collar center with a pin.
    • Pin collar to right side of neckline, matching collar seam with t-shirt center back and collar center pin with t-shirt center front.
    • Stitch, stretching the collar between the pins as you sew to fit neckline.

How to choose the appropriate size:

Use the size corresponding to the bust measurement. Seam and hem allowances are included. Stitch this garment 6 mm (1/4″) from edge (unless otherwise indicated).

Jalie’s sewing technique for stretch fabric (if you do not have a serger)

  1. First seam: a large zigzag stitch directly on raw edge of fabric, without stretching the fabric (fig. 1).
  2. Second seam: a straight stitch 6 mm (1/4”) from edge of the fabric stretching the fabric lightly (fig. 2).

BEFORE YOU CUT THE FABRIC

  • Tape front parts 1 and 2 as shown on the pattern piece to create your Front piece.
  • Use this new piece to cut the fabric.

Assembly (Views A, B, C, D)

  1. Pin front to back at shoulder seams (fig. 4) and stitch. Pin sleeve to armscye (fig. 5) and stitch.
  2. Pin front to back at side and underarm seams (fig. 6) and stitch.
  3. Fold bottom edge of sleeves to wrong side by 1.5 cm (5/8’’) (cap and short sleeves) or 2 cm (3/4’’) (three-quarter and long sleeve) and topstitch (fig. 7). Fold t-shirt hem by 2 cm (3/4’’) to wrong side and topstitch (fig. 8).

Jewel neck (View A)

  1. Fold neckband right sides together, matching double notches (fig. 9) and stitch to form a loop.
  2. Bring raw edges wrong sides together (fig. 10) and sew using a zigzag stitch (fig. 11).
  3. Mark neckband center with a pin (fig. 12).
  4. Pin neckband to right side of neckline, matching neckband seam with t-shirt center back and neckband center pin with t-shirt center front (fig. 13).
  5. Stitch, stretching the band between the pins as you sew to fit neckline (fig. 14).

Mock turtleneck (View B)

  1. Fold collar right sides together, matching double notches (fig. 15) and stitch to form a loop.
  2. Bring raw edges wrong sides together (fig. 16) and sew using a zigzag stitch (fig. 17). Mark collar center with a pin (fig. 18).
  3. Pin collar to right side of neckline, matching collar seam with t-shirt center back and collar center pin with t-shirt center front (fig. 19).
  4. Stitch, stretching the collar between the pins as you sew to fit neckline (fig. 20).

Regular V neck (View C)

  1. Fold collar right sides together, matching double notches (fig. 21) and stitch.
  2. Bring raw edges wrong sides together, matching single notches (fig. 22) and sew using a zigzag stitch.
  3. Overlap neckband ends as shown (fig. 23) and stitch 6 mm (1/4’’) from edge as shown (fig. 24).
  4. On right side of front, sew a staystitch 6 mm (1/4’’) from edge between the two notches (fig. 25).
  5. Clip the inside of V up to, but without cutting the staystitch thread (fig. 26).
  6. Pin neckband to right side of front neckline, matching single notches, and stitch over visible staystitch, making sure you have a nice pointy « V » angle as shown (fig. 27 – view from right side and fig. 28 – view from wrong side).
  7. Pin remaining neckband to right side of neckline, matching neckband seam with t-shirt center back.
  8. Sew, stretching the band as you sew to fit neckline (fig. 29).

V-neck with decorative buttons (View D)

  1. Pin neckband pieces right sides together, matching double notches (fig. 30) and stitch.
  2. Bring raw edges wrong sides together, matching single notches, and sew using a zigzag stitch (fig. 31).
  3. Overlap neckband ends, matching single notches (fig. 32) and stitch across bands, 6 mm (1/4’’) from edge with notch.
  4. Sew a staystitch as shown (fig. 33), 6 mm (1/4’’) from neckline edge. Clip corners up to, but without cutting the staystitch thread (fig. 34).
  5. Pin neckband to bottom of neckline as shown and stitch between the two vertical seams (fig. 35 – view from right side of front, fig. 36 – view from wrong side of front).
  6. Pin remaining neckband to right side of neckline, matching single notches (fig. 37) as well as neckband seam with t-shirt center back (fig. 38). Stitch, stretching the band as you sew between the pins to fit the neckline.
  7. Turn t-shirt right side out, overlap neckbands, pin and sew decorative buttons through all layers (fig. 39).
