ABC Reading eggs User Guide
How to use ABC Reading Eggs
Getting your child started
- Go to www.readingeggs.com.au and log in using your username and password.
- Select ‘Start’ on your family dashboard.
- Select ABC Reading Eggs.
Taking the Placement Test
The first time your child logs into ABC Reading Eggs they are asked to do a
Placement Test. The Placement Test will place your child on the appropriate
reading lesson. They will need sound enabled to complete the test.
Navigating the program
ABC Reading Eggs keeps children motivated by rewarding them along their journey. Your child can see which lesson they are up to and check how many golden eggs they have earned.
My Lessons
This is the heart of ABC Reading Eggs – 120 reading lessons that travel through 12 exciting maps. Your child can repeat lessons to reinforce essential reading skills.
House (Opens after lesson 10)
Your child can change the appearance of their avatar, play arcade games, read Story Factory stories they have written and view their awards, certificates and critters. They can also decorate their house with their purchases from the Shop.
Spelling (Opens after lesson 40)
This area includes 96 carefully graded spelling lessons to develop your child’s spelling skills in a progressive sequence. Each lesson focuses on a 12-word spelling list.
Driving Tests (Opens after lesson 40)
This section consists of 45 tests covering sight words, phonics skills and content-area vocabulary. When your child answers enough questions correctly they are rewarded with a racing car game.
Puzzles (Opens after lesson 40)
Your child can complete 32 word puzzles that develop a range of reading skills.
My Program
This shows your child’s progress in the ABC Reading Eggs world and displays which lessons they can do next. For each reading lesson, My Program recommends four books to read – two fiction and two nonfiction titles. Book recommendations are carefully matched to your child’s progress. Children can also see which books they have read.
Play
Includes over 170 activities and books. This virtual playroom is where young children can enjoy music, pictures, puzzles and much more.
My Avatar
Children can create their own unique online character with customised features and accessories
My Eggs
Your child can earn golden eggs by completing activities throughout the program. These eggs can be used to purchase games and shop items.
Critters
Children can view the collection of critters they have earned for completing lessons.
Storylands (Opens after lesson 60)
Storylands contains 20 lessons, 140 activities and 20 wonderful books. Perfect for the child who has mastered their ABC Reading Eggs lessons and is able to read short books. Storylands tests many of the reading and comprehension skills needed for school.
Story Factory (Opens after lesson 10)
The Story Factory provides a step-by-step guide to writing a story. Your child can choose their own illustrations and access word and sentence suggestions to help write their story. They can also enter a weekly story writing competition.
Games (Opens after lesson 6)
Contains 19 fun arcade-style games that your child can play using their golden eggs.
Songs
This section brings together 70 ABC Reading Eggs songs in one central location. Your child can sing, dance and enjoy songs from their favourite lessons and characters.
Plaza
Your child can purchase new clothing and furniture items for their avatar and house using their golden eggs. Children can walk around the Plaza with other Eggsplorers and enjoy a new theme each month, discovering limited-edition items in the shops.
