SET UP AND USE

PROPER LOCATION: Flying insects will always be more attracted to humans than to lights, however they will gravitate to the strongest light source in the area.
We suggest when flying insects are very aggressive in your area, try and stay away from the bug zapper for a few days with only the light of the zapper on. This will help lure them into its trap and kill off the majority of insects. Depending on the insect population, two weeks or more may be necessary to significantly reduce the population.

When determining where to place the unit for best results, locate a spot away from human activity. Select a location within the insect’s natural habitat including near bushes, low trees, and ground cover such as Ivy. This will ensure the best possible results. The device should also be placed between 6’-7’ above the ground using the included chain. Suitable hanging locations include a tree, mounting pole, or other free-standing objects.

HOW TO USE

  1. Unpack the unit and save all packaging material for storage when the season is over.
  2. Select the proper location as noted in the above instructions.
  3. Plug the cord into a compatible extension cord if needed as noted in the above electrical instructions.
  4. Once plugged into a powered outlet, the device is active. UV lights should illuminate and the zapper is ready for use.
  5. If using a removable bottom tray, make sure to clean the tray often of dead insects.
  6. If using over natural setting, remove the tray permanently (see instructions below) to allow zapped insects to fall freely through onto the ground. This will eliminate the need to clear away dead insects that can build up inside the tray.
  7. If the zapping grid shows signs of accumulation of dead insects on the live electrified grid, occasional cleaning of the wire grid may be required (see further instructions detailing this process).
  8. It is recommended that this unit be placed into use from early Spring until late Fall for best results.
  9. The device is designed to withstand moderate rain. If severe weather is expected, it is recommended to remove this device and store it indoors until severe weather has passed.
  10. Unplug device when not in use.

MAINTENANCE

The BDPC912 Electronic Bug Zapper exterior housing does not require cleaning. Periodic rainfall will clean the exterior. Do not attempt to clean the housing with water or spray or any other liquids.

REMOVING & CLEANING THE BOTTOM TRAY:

Removal of the bottom tray when the unit is placed in the yard eliminates the need to empty the bottom tray for insect removal.
If the bottom tray is intended to contain dead insects from falling to the ground, the tray should be emptied frequently. Use caution and use gloves when opening the tray as some dead insects potentially may fall out of the tray upon removal.

To remove tray : Slide out as shown

ELECTRIC GRID CLEANING:

WARNING:

Always unplug your Bug Zapper before cleaning to avoid electric shock. When cleaning the electric grid, only use included cleaning brush to avoid any risk of shock or injury. Ignoring this warning may result in death or injury.

  • In areas with large insect populations, the electric grids may begin to accumulate dead insects on the grid which can affect the function of the device. To ensure the effective use of this device periodic cleaning of the electric grid with an included brush may be necessary.
  • The rate of cleaning depends on the insect population in your area.
  1. Unplug the device and remove the unit from the hanging position and allow it to sit for three hours to allow all electricity in the unit to disperse.
  2. Access the grid through the open slots in the grill as shown using included cleaning brush and gently brush away dead insects so they fall down into the lower tray for removal.
  3. Never use water to clean the unit as this can cause damage to the electronics.
  4. Use care and make sure not to move the metal electric grid.
  5. Return the unit to the hanging position and plug it back in

WARNING:
Do not try to adjust or repair the zapper yourself. Component parts shall be replaced with like components. Servicing shall be done by factory-authorized service personnel to minimize the risk of possible ignition due to incorrect parts or improper service.

TROUBLESHOOTING

The device does not light but appears to have voltage through the electrical grid:

  • Unplug the unit and check if the bulb is properly seated in the socket.
  • Unplug the unit and replace the bulb if necessary.

The device does not light and the electrical grid does not appear to have voltage:

  • Ensure the device is plugged into a functioning outlet.

Device appears to be functioning (light and zapper work) but the insect population does not appear to have been reduced:

  • Move unit to another area in the yard for better results.
  • Allow more time. It can take several weeks for the device to affect the insect population depending on the density of insects.
  • Check the surrounding area to ensure there are no features that may be drawing the insects to your location. Examples include standing water, refuse and bright lights that may compete with the light output of this unit.

Unit is sparking/arcing constantly:

  • Unplug the unit and clean the electric grid of the device as instructed previously in Electric Grid Cleaning (Pg. 5)

If troubleshooting does not solve the problems you are encountering, or if you have further questions not answered by these instructions, please call our customer service at 1-888-338-6798 or email [email protected]

BEFORE YOU CALL CUSTOMER SERVICE:

  1. Check to make sure that the zapper is plugged in securely. If it is not, remove the plug from the outlet, wait 10 seconds and plug it in again securely.
  2. Check for a blown circuit fuse or a tripped main circuit breaker. If these seem to be operating properly, test the outlet with another appliance.

FAQs

Where can I get replacement bulbs?****

Replacement bulbs can be purchased from any hardware store.

How long does the bulb last?****

The light bulb will last approximately 1,000 hours.

How long will it take to kill the bugs?****

It takes approximately 3 to 4 days to kill the bugs.

What is the warranty?****

The product has a one-year limited warranty that covers defects in materials and workmanship. This warranty does not cover normal wear and tear or damage caused by improper use or misuse of the product. For more information, please call 1-888-338-6798.

Does this unit emit ozone?****

No. This product does not emit ozone. The bulb emits UV light which attracts insects and then dehydrates them.

Can bug zapper stay on all the time?****

The best and most efficient method to use a bug zapper is to leave it on continuously. You contribute to severing the insect reproduction cycle by doing this. As an alternative, use your insect zapper from sunrise to dusk.

Where is the best location for a bug zapper?****

Finding an outside outlet is necessary because this equipment has to be plugged in. Place this gadget ideally 20 to 40 feet away from gathering places. This removes any potential nearby light sources and creates space to lure insects away from you.

What does a bug zapper do to bugs?****

Bug zappers function by generating a UV light that draws insects to the device’s center, where they are typically electrocuted between two metal grids. Due to the compelling appeal of their light, insect zappers are highly successful at killing pests.

How long does bug zapper lights Last?****

The mosquito attractant cartridge for the zapper contains octanol, a pesticide-active component. Replacement cartridges are offered, however, each one only lasts for 30 days.

Can bug zapper catch fire?****

The risk of fire from bug zappers is no greater than that from other electrical equipment. The majority of devices have undergone UL testing, however, as with any outdoor electrical item, care must be taken to prevent frayed or wet electrical cables. They must also be linked to outlets with GFCI protection.

Do bug zappers attract all bugs?****

By luring more mosquitoes into your yard and destroying millions of helpful insects that don’t annoy people, bug zappers actually worsen the situation.

Do bug zappers make noise?****

The insect enters the gap between the wire-mesh grids as it travels in the direction of the light, completing the electrical circuit. The bug is vaporized by a high-voltage electric current that passes through it. This frequently results in a loud “ZZZZ” sound.
