Instruction Manual
Description
The NBG-12LPS, -12LPSP Pull Stations are non-coded manual pull stations which
provide a Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP) with two (2) normally open (N/O)
alarm initiating input signals. “Pre-signal” input is activated by pushing in,
then pulling down the dual action handle. A “General” alarm input signal can
be manually activated via a momentary rocker switch mounted inside the unit.
This general alarm switch can only be a cces sed by opening the cover with the
supplie d key/lock. These pullstationsare UL listed and meet the ADA
requirement of a 5lb. maximum pull force to activate.
Operating instructions are molded in to the handle along with Braille text.
Molded terminal numbers can be found adjacent to the wiring terminals.
Models Available
NBG-12LPS
Dual action model with two independently operated normally open Single Pole,
Single Throw (SPST) switches for pre – signal/general alarm applications.
Requires a 4-inch
square, double gang or surface (SB-10) backbox for mounting. Key lock reset.
NBG-12LPSP
Same a s the NBG-12LPS except with both English and Spanish instructions
depicted on the unit.
Switch Contact Rating
All Switch contacts are rated for 0.25 Aat 30 volts (AC or D C ) .
Installation
The pull station can be surface mounted to a Surface Backbox (SB-10) or semi-
flush mount to a standard double- gang, or 4-inch (10.16cm) square electrical
box. An optional Trim Ring (BG-TR) may be used when semi – flush mounting the
unit.
Caution: The door of the pull station may detach from the backplate. It
cannot be re-attached once the backplate is installed on the electrical
backbox.
To re-attach th e door
Hold door (A) to the rear of the backplate ( B ) as shown in thefigure below.
Bring door forward (1) to align pins with holes. Slide door down (2) onto
backplate. Close door partially to lock into place.
Caution: Install the pull station in accordance with the supplied
instructions, applicable NFPA standards, national and local Fire and
Electrical codes and the requirements of the Authority Having Jurisdiction
(AHJ). Conduct regular testing of the devices using appropriate NFPA
standards. Notifier is not responsible for devices that have not been properly
installed, tested and maintained.
ADA Complianeel 227A
For ADA compliance, if the clear floor space only allows forward approach t o
an object, the maximum forward reach height allowed is 48-inches (121.92cm).
If the clear floor space allows parallel approach by a person in a wheel-
chair, the maximum side reach allowed is 54 inches (137.16cm).
Wiring Instructions
Before wiring the pull station, pull all necessary wiring through a mounted backbox and the optional trim ring.
- Using the built – in strip gauge, on the back of the pull station, remove the correct amount of wire insulation.
- Connect the wiring from the FACPs Initiating Device Circuit (IDC), identified as pre-signal, to terminals | and 2 on the pull stations terminal strip. Connect the next pre-signal device on the IDC or an End-of-Line Resistor (ELR) to terminals | and 2.
- Connect the wiring from the FACPs IDC, identified a s general alarm, to terminals 3 and 4 on the pull stations terminal strip. Connect the next general alarm device on the IDC or an ELR to terminals 3 and4.
Warning: Do not loop wiring under any terminals. Break wire run to maintain IDC supervision.
Operation
To activate the pull station, push in and pull down on the handle. The word
‘ACTIVATED?’ appears after the handle is pulled down. This will remain until
the pull station is reset.
The pull station includes two individual Single Pole, Single Throw (SPST)
Normally Open (N/O) switches, one for pre-signal (toggle) and one for general
alarm momentary closed rocker type) a s illustrated below. Activating the
pull station places the toggle switch (pre-signal) into the closed position.
The responsible individual on site would then investigate and if no emergency
exists, the pull station is reset. If an emergency does exist, the pull
station would be opened with the key and the general alarm switch would be
pushed, latching the fire alarm system into alarm, turning on the notification
appliances.
Resetting the Pull Station
- Insert the key into the lock and rotate 1/4 turn counterclockwise.
- Open the door until the handle returns to normal.
- Close and lock the door.
Note: Opening the door will not activate or deactivate the pre-signal
toggle switch. Closing the door automatically resets the toggle switch to the
‘Normal’ position.
