Important safety instructions
When using your Hobby Jack heat press basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following.
Read all instructions before using
- Use Hobby Jack heat press for its intended use only, namely to manipulate fabrics and transfer designs.
- To protect against the risk of electric shock, do not immerse the Hobby Jack heat press in water or other liquids.
- This Hobby Jack heat press is not designed to be used by people (including children) with a physical, sensory or mental impairment, people without knowledge or experience, unless they are supervised or given prior instructions concerning the use of the appliance by someone responsible for their safety.
- Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the Hobby Jack heat press.
- The Hobby Jack heat press is not intended to be operated by means of an external timer or separate remote control system.
- The temperature control of your Hobby Jack heat press should always be 0 (zero) before plugging or unplugging from the outlet. Never yank power lead to disconnect from electrical outlet, instead grasp plug and pull to disconnect.
- Do not allow power lead to touch hot surfaces. Let Hobby Jack heat press cool completely before putting away.
- Disconnect the power lead from your Hobby Jack heat press when storing.
- Always disconnect your Hobby Jack heat press from the electrical outlet when not in use.
- Do not operate your Hobby Jack heat press with a damaged power lead or if the Hobby Jack heat press has been dropped or damaged. To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble your Hobby Jack heat press instead take it to a qualified electrical engineer for examination and repair. Incorrect reassembly can cause a risk of electric shock when your Hobby Jack heat press is used.
- Do not leave Hobby Jack heat press unattended while connected or while heat pressing a decal.
- Burns can occur from touching hot metal parts. Use caution when opening and closing your Hobby Jack heat press.
- Your Hobby Jack heat press must be used and rested on a firm, flat and stable surface.
- Your Hobby Jack heat press should not be used if it has been dropped, if there are visible signs of damage.
- Never bend the power lead when using or putting you Hobby Jack heat press away as in time this could damage the device.
- For non-rewireable plugs the fuse cover MUST be refitted when replacing fuse. If the fuse cover is lost then the plug must not be used until a replacement can be obtained.
- Before use remove all packaging and any loose labels from you Hobby Jack heat press. Leave warning stickers in place.
- Your Hobby Jack heat press should be situated within easy reach, during operation, with sufficient space around it so that no trapping points are created.
- When lowering the heat plate on your Hobby Jack heat press it is recommended that you use both hands.
- Your Hobby Jack heat press should be operated in adequate lighting condition only.
- This appliance is designed for use in the following conditions; Temperature 5 to 40°C (41 to 104°F); Humidity 20 to 80%.
Special instructions
To avoid a circuit overload, do not operate another high wattage appliance on
the same circuit.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS:
More specifically
DO NOT let children or untrained persons use your Hobby Jack heat press
without supervision.
NEVER immerse your Hobby Jack heat press, power cable or plug in any liquid.
DO NOT leave your Hobby Jack heat press unattended with fabrics or very
flammable materials.
DO NOT leave your Hobby Jack heat press unnecessarily plugged in. Always
disconnect the plug from the outlet socket when the appliance is not in use.
NEVER touch the appliance with wet or damp hands.
DO NOT use the power lead or your Hobby Jack heat press in order to pull the
plug out of the outlet socket.
DO NOT leave your Hobby Jack heat press exposed to the weather (rain, sun
etc.)
DO NOT leave your Hobby Jack heat press unsupervised when it is connected to
the power outlet.
Please note!
Do not use chemical agents or harsh cleaning agents to clean your Hobby Jack
heat press or immerse in liquid.
CONNECTING TO POWER
- Before switching on your Hobby Jack heat press make sure that the voltage of your electricity supply is the same as that indicated on the rating plate.
- This appliance may be fitted with a non-rewireable plug. If it is necessary to change the fuse in a non-rewireable plug the fuse cover must be refitted if the fuse cover is lost or damaged. The plug must not be used until a replacement cover is obtained.
- It is important that the colour of the replacement fuse cover corresponds with the colour marking on the fuse. If the plug has to be changed because it is not suitable for your socket or the original becomes damaged, it should be cut off and an appropriate plug fitted, following the wiring instruction below. The damaged plug that is removed must be disposed of safely, as insertion into a power outlet socket is likely to cause an electrical hazard.
- For your own safety read the following instructions carefully before attempting to connect this unit to the mains.
- For safety reasons your Hobby Jack heat press must be sited close to a power outlet for easy reach in the event of a problem.
MAINS (AC) OPERATION
Your Hobby Jack heat press is designed to operate on 230V~50Hz only.
Connecting it to other power sources may damage the unit.
The wires in the power lead are colored in accordance with the following:
BLUE = NEUTRAL, BROWN = LIVE, GREEN + YELLOW = EARTH
IMPORTANT
As the color of the wires in the power lead of your Hobby Jack heat press may
not correspond with the colored markings identifying the terminals in your
plug, please proceed as follows:
- The wire which is colored blue must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N.
- The wire which is colored brown must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L.
- The wire which is colored green + yellow must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter E.
- If a 13 Amp (BS 1363) plug is used, a 13 Amp fuse must be fitted, or if any other plug is used a 13 Amp fuse must be fitted, either in the plug or adapter (if used) or on the main distribution board.
CAUTION
To prevent electric shock disconnect from the outlet before removing cover.
There are no user serviceable parts inside. Please refer servicing to a
qualified service engineer.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
- Do not allow your Hobby Jack heat press or any part of the power connectors to be exposed to rain or moisture.
- Mains supply: 230 Volts~50 Hz with a supply rated for at least 13 Amps (AC only).
- An interruption to the electrical supply would necessitate that you immediately disconnect your Hobby Jack heat presses plug from the mains supply socket, as a resumption of power would allow the machine to heat up. This could cause a danger if your Hobby Jack heat press was unattended during power resumption.
- If replacement of the fuse in the rear of the appliance is necessary please replace with a Glass fuse rated at 8A 250V – Adkins Part No. SCC27 or equivalent.
Using your press
CONNECTING YOUR HOBBY JACK HEAT PRESS
Connecting your press to the power outlet is a simple task that requires only
that you use the supplied power cord and lead. Using a lead other than the one
supplied will invalidate your warranty and could lead to personal injury.
When using your Hobby Jack heat press for the first time, you may notice a slight emission of smoke and/ or a slight smell of burning, this is completely normal and will stop after a short period.
PREPARATIONS
When heat applying/ sealing with your Hobby Jack heat press, you should follow
the advice of the manufacturer/ supplier of the materials used with regard to
temperature/ time/ ventilation, as some materials may emit fumes. Failure to
do so could invalidate your warranty.
SELECTING THE TEMPERATURE
- If you have a large amount of varying types of work to complete it is advised to start with the work that requires the lowest heat setting.
- Working in this logical order reduces the amount of waiting time (your Hobby Jack heat press requires less time to heat up than to cool down) and reduces the chance of spoiling your work due to overheating.
- Place the plug into the outlet and switch on the supply.
- Close the heat plate using the handle but do not clamp shut.
- Using the dial select the desired temperature. Please refer to the diagram below for dial temperature settings.
- The green light on the front of your Hobby Jack heat press will illuminate to indicate that the press is switched on (see diagram below).
- The red light, also on the front of your Hobby Jack heat press, will also illuminate to indicate that the temperature is climbing (see diagram below).
- When the red light goes out your Hobby Jack heat press has reached the required tempera-ture as set by the temperature setting dial.
HEAT APPLYING/SEALING PROCEDURE

Release the handle catch to open your press

Position the transfer in the desired location over the material to be applied to
Take care not to touch the heat plate -
Lower the heat plate using both hands, taking care to close the handle catch

After the required time has elapsed (as notified by the manufacturer of the material and/or the transfer type applied) release the handle catch and raise the heat plate to the fully open position.

CLEANING
- Please note: Before cleaning your Hobby Jack heat press in any way make sure that the outlet plug is not connected to the socket and that the heat plate has completely cooled.
- Any deposits left on the heat plate can be removed using a damp cloth or a non-abrasive liquid detergent.
- Avoid scratching the heat plate with steel wool or metallic objects.
- Other parts can be cleaned with a damp cloth then wiped over with a dry cloth.
TIPS AND ADVICE
- If you don’t know the composition of the fabric, determine the suitable temperature by testing a hidden corner of the garment. Start with a low temperature and increase it gradu-ally until it reaches the ideal temperature.
- Never heat press areas with traces of perspiration or other marks; The heat of the plate fixes the stains on the fabric, making them irremovable.
- To avoid marking silk, woollen or synthetic garments a Teflon® sheet or baking parchment is recommended.
PLEASE NOTE
- If the power lead is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or their service agent or simply a qualified person in order to avoid an electrocution hazard.
- Service personnel must be given supervision or instruction concerning the use of your Hobby Jack heat press prior to repairs being undertaken.
- Do not let children or pets play with your Hobby Jack heat press.
- Keep your Hobby Jack heat press and power lead out of the reach of children or pets when it is live and/ or cooling down.
