General Power Tool Safety Warnings
Warnings
Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations, and specifications
provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below
may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.
Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded)
power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.
Work area safety
- Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
- Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks that may ignite the dust or fumes.
- Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.
Electrical safety
- Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
- Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
- Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
- Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
- When operating a power tool outdoors, use an exten-sion cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
- If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.
Personal safety
- Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious per-sonal injury.
- Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
- Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energizing power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
- Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
- Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
- Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
- If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can re-duce dust-related hazards.
- Do not let familiarity gained from the frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles. A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second.
Power tool use and care
- Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
- Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
- Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or remove the battery pack, if detachable, from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
- Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
- Maintain power tools and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
- Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
- Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits, etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
- Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in unexpected situations.
Service
- Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.
Drill safety warnings
- The drill must be secured.A drill that is not properly secured may move or tip over and may result in personal injury.
- The workpiece must be clamped or secured to the workpiece support. Do not drill pieces that are too small to be clamped securely. Holding the workpiece by hand during operation may result in personal injury.
- Do not wear gloves. Gloves may be entangled by the rotating parts or chips leading to personal injury.
- Keep your hands out of the drilling area while the tool is running. Contact with rotating parts or chips may result in personal injury.
- Make sure the accessory is rotating before feeding into the workpiece. Otherwise, the accessory may become jammed in the workpiece causing unexpected movement of the workpiece and personal injury.
- When the accessory is jammed, stop applying downward pressure and switch off the tool. Investigate and take corrective actions to eliminate the cause of the jam. Jamming can cause unexpected movement of the workpiece and personal injury.
- Avoid generating long chips by regularly interrupting downward pressure. Sharp metal chips may cause entanglement and personal injuries.
- Never remove chips from the drilling area while the tool is running. To remove chips, move the accessory away from the workpiece, switch off the tool and wait for the accessory to stop moving. Use tools such as a brush or hook to remove chips. Contact with rotating parts or chips may result in personal injury.
- Accessories with speed ratings must be rated at least equal to the maximum speed marked on the power tool. Accessories running faster than their rated speed can break and fly apart.
- The power tool is delivered with a laser warning sign (see table: “Symbols and their meaning”).
- Never make warning signs on the machine unrecognizable.
- Do not direct the laser beam at persons or animals and do not stare into the direct or reflected laser beam yourself. You could blind somebody, cause accidents or damage your eyes.
- If laser radiation hits your eye, you must close your eyes and immediately turn your head away from the beam.
- Do not make any modifications to the laser equip-ment.
- Do not let children use the power tool unsupervised. They could accidentally blind someone
- If the text of the laser warning label is not in your national language, stick the provided warning label in your national language over it before operating it for the first time.
- Secure the power tool on a stable, even and horizontal surface. If the power tool can slip or shake, the application tool cannot be operated evenly and safely.
- Never leave the tool unattended before it has come to a complete stop. Cutting tools that are still running can cause injuries.
- Keep the work surface clean, including the workpiece. Sharp-edged drilling chips and other objects may cause injury. Material mixtures are particularly hazardous. Light metal dust may catch fire or explode.
- Select the correct rotational speed before starting work. The rotational speed must be appropriate for both the drilling diameter and the material you intend to drill. If an incorrect rotational speed is selected, the application tool may become jammed in the workpiece.
- Do not touch the application tool after working before it has cooled. The application tool becomes very hot while working.
- Check the cable regularly and have a damaged cable repaired only by an authorised customer service agent for Bosch power tools. Replace damaged exten-sion cables. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.
- Store the power tool safely when it is not in use. The storage location must be dry and lockable. This prevents the power tool from storage damage, and from being operated by untrained persons.
- Never use the power tool if the cable is damaged. Do not touch the damaged cable and pull out the mains plug if the cable is damaged while working. Damaged cables increase the risk of an electric shock.
Products sold in GB only:
Your product is fitted with a BS 1363/A approved electric plug with an
internal fuse (ASTA approved to BS 1362).
If the plug is not suitable for your socket outlets, it should be cut off and an appropriate plug fitted in its place by an authorised customer service agent. The replacement plug should have the same fuse rating as the original plug. The specifications apply to a rated voltage [U] of 230 V. These specifications may vary at different voltages and in country-specific models.
Noise information
Noise emission values are determined according to EN 62841-3-13.
Typically, the A-weighted sound pressure level of the power tool is 73 dB(A). Uncertainty K = 3 dB. The noise level when working can exceed the volume stated. Wear hearing protection!
The noise emission value given in these instructions has been measured in accordance with a standardized measuring procedure and may be used to compare power tools. It may also be used for a preliminary estimation of noise emissions.
The noise emission value given represents the main applications of the power
tool. However, if the power tool is used for other applications, with
different application tools or is poorly maintained, the noise emission value
may differ. This may significantly increase noise emissions over the total
working period.
To estimate noise emissions accurately, the times when the tool is switched
off, or when it is running but not actually being used, should also be taken
into account. This may significantly reduce noise emissions over the total
working period.

Dust/Chip Extraction
Dust from materials such as lead-containing coatings, some wood types,
minerals, and metal can be harmful to one’s health. Touching or breathing in
the dust can cause allergic reactions and/or lead to respiratory infections of
the user or bystanders.
Certain dust, such as oak or beech dust, is considered carcinogenic, especially in connection with wood-treatment additives (chromate, wood preservative). Materials containing asbestos may only be worked by specialists.
- Provide good ventilation in the workplace place.
- It is recommended to wear a P2 filter-class respirator. Observe the relevant regulations in your country for the materials to be worked.
- Avoid dust accumulation at the workplace. Dust can easily ignite.

Working Advice
General advice
Before drilling, make sure that the quick-action clamp (3), the parallel guide
(19), and/or the machine vice (accessory) are tightly fastened.
The drill can become jammed in the workpiece when it is removed from the
workpiece, which may cause kickback. Therefore, make sure to slow down the
feed motion toward the end of the drilling procedure.
If the application tool becomes blocked, switch the power tool off. Allow the application tool and the workpiece to cool down. Remove the drilling chips. Investigate and take corrective action to eliminate the cause of the application tool jamming.
Special advice for drilling in metal
Metal workpieces should be center-punched before drilling into them. Pre-drill
if a drilling diameter is over 10 mm. Use cutting oil (e.g. Bosch universal
cutting oil) to cool the drilling point and facilitate your work.
Position of the operator
- Always stand in front of the power tool. This will ensure you always have a good view of the drilling point.
- Keep hands and fingers away from the rotating application tool.
- Do not reach one arm across the other when in front of the drive unit.
Drilling
- Place the workpiece on the base plate (1).
- Set the height of the drive unit.
- Align the workpiece by referring to the laser cross.
- Clamp the workpiece.
- Set an appropriate speed.
- Switch on the power tool.
- To drill, turn the hand wheel (11) with uniform feed until the required drilling depth is reached.
- Once the required drilling depth has been reached, re-tract the hand wheel (11) until the drive unit has returned to its initial position.
- Switch the power tool off.
Displaying the drilling depth (see figure I)
The current drilling depth can be viewed on the display (14).
- After setting the speed, press the button (33) to switch the indicator area of the display to “Depth”.
- Set the height of the drive unit.
- Rest the tip of the drill bit lightly on the workpiece.
- Press the button (34) to determine the zero point. “Reset” appears on the display (14).
- Drill with uniform feed until the required drilling depth is shown on the display.
Setting the drilling depth (see figure J)
The depth stop (9) can be used to determine the drilling depth t.
- Loosen the clamping lever (8) by turning it anticlockwise.
- Carry out a test drilling procedure. If the required drilling depth t is shown on the display (14), retighten the clamping lever (8).
The drilling depth is then limited to the value t for subsequent drilling procedures.
Transport (see figure K)
- When transporting the power tool, hold it with both hands on the base plate (1) (➊) or with one hand on the drill column (4) (➋). Do not carry the power tool by the hand wheel (11) (3).
Maintenance and servicing
Maintenance and Cleaning
- Pull the plug out of the socket before carrying out any work on the power tool.
- To ensure safe and efficient operation, always keep the power tool and the ventilation slots clean.
In order to avoid safety hazards, if the power supply cord needs to be replaced, this must be done by Bosch or by an after-sales service centre that is authorised to repair Bosch power tools. If necessary, clean the drill column (4) with a dry cloth and spray it lightly with Bosch universal cutting oil (accessory).
Adjusting the brake of the drive unit (see figure L)
The clamping force of the brake for the drive unit (12) can be adjusted.
Checking
- The clamping force of the brake must securely hold the drive unit at any height.
Adjusting
- Use the hex key (23) to turn the set screw (35) anticlockwise to reduce the clamping force or clockwise to increase the clamping force.
- Check whether the required clamping force has been reached.
