General Safety Instructions
- In the event of an emergency, turn off the machine using the power switch. Unplug the machine or remove the fuse from the fuse box. Turn off the water supply to the machine. Contact your service provider.
- This machine can be used by children aged 8 years and older, untrained persons or persons with diminished capacity if they are under supervision or have been instructed on using the machine in a safe way and they understand the hazards involved. Do not let children play with the machine. Do not let children clean or service the machine without supervision.
- Only trained service personnel and instructed personnel should access the service area.
General Safety Messages

Risk of electric shock
Contact with electrical components during operation of the machine could
result in death or serious injury.
- Never open the casing.
- Keep the machine away from moisture.
- Never immerse the machine, power cable or plug in water or any other liquid.
- Immediately stop using the machine if the power cable or plug is damaged.
- Do not place the machine or cable near or on hot machine parts. Never use the machine near an open flame.
- Protect the power cable from sharp edges.
- Do not reach up inside the inner casing when the capsule container is removed.
- The machine should only be installed, moved, removed, repaired or serviced by authorized, trained service staff.
- Keep the machine and its supply lines out of the reach of children.
Food safety risk
Ingestion of contaminated food could result in death or serious injury.
- Only use food with a sell-by date that is not yet expired.
- Store food in suitable locations.
- Clean the machine periodically and in accordance with the user manual.
- Only use heat-treated (e.g., pasteurized or ultra-pasteurized) cow’s milk.
- Observe hygiene standards when pouring milk into the container(s).
- Only pour cold milk (below 40 °F) into the milk container(s).
- Use opened milk within 24 hrs.
- Never mix different types of milk. Mixing can impact foam quality and risk allergen cross-contamination.
- Compliance with the color coding for clearly identifying the containers is essential to prevent CROSS-CONTAMINATION OF ALLERGENIC SUBSTANCES.
- Clean the container(s) in a dishwasher after use.
- Do not mix containers together.

- Do not reach under the product outlet.
- Avoid direct contact with hot liquids.
- Do not touch any part of the outlets before or after a beverage has been dispensed.
- Do not open the lever while a product is being dispensed or the machine is being cleaned.
- Use caution when emptying the drip tray.

Reaching inside the machine could result in minor or moderate injury.
- Do not open the lever during preparation. To stop preparation, press the same product button again.
- Do not put fingers into the capsule insertion slots.
- If a capsule is blocked in the capsule insertion slot, turn off the machine before performing any operation.

Improper use of the machine releases Nespresso from any liability.
Summary
This user manual describes how to operate the AGUILA 440 espresso coffee
machine and is included with the machine.
Intended use
This machine is meant to be used in a professional environment by the
personnel listed below:
Self-serve users:
- Self-serve users are users guided by the screen instructions to operate the machine in a safe mode. Self-serve users must not conduct any maintenance operations.
Trained operator staff:
- Trained operator staff are staff able to operate the machine and execute the cleaning and maintenance activities described in this manual.
Operation
This machine is only suitable for producing coffee, milk and hot water products, and is suitable for commercial use in the catering trade.
Accordingly, please follow the instructions below:
- This machine is designed for Nespresso® Pro capsules available exclusively through Nespresso and its authorized distributors.
- The milk container(s) should only be used to store cold milk. Do not fill the container(s) with other enriched substances, such as sugared liquids, alcohol, etc. Please note that, when pouring the milk into the milk container(s), it must be below 40 °F, as the refrigerator has been designed to keep the milk cool but not to lower its temperature.
- Carry out all necessary maintenance work as described in these instructions at regular intervals.
- The machine should only be operated by trained operator staff.
- All operations other than those mentioned in this manual should only be performed by authorized and trained service providers from Nespresso aftersales centers.
- Empty the capsule container when the corresponding notification appears on the display. Rinse the container with warm, soapy water.
Cleaning the machine
The machine should be cleaned daily to maintain necessary hygiene and food
safety, perfect Nespresso Grand Cru’s taste and a longer life of the machine.
Please refer to “Daily Cleaning” chapter for a complete guide on properly
cleaning your machine.
Also note of the following:
- Use only the Thermopylae milk cleaning tablets for the automatic cleaning process. Do not use any other detergent or disinfectant for this purpose.
- The machine should be handled so as to avoid microbiological contamination. Specifically, do not use unsensitized or non-fresh material, or touch the outlet spouts with dirty hands.
- If cloths or sponges are used, they should be wrung out thoroughly to ensure that they are only damp and not soaked, otherwise there is a risk of electric shock. The use of fresh, clean, single-use disposable tissues or paper towels is recommended.
- Do not put plastic parts or any machine components in the microwave.
- Do not clean plastic parts with alcohol, ethanol, methanol, methylated spirits or disinfectants. Do not use detergents with strong acid agents, such as acetic acid.
- Do not clean the machine using high pressure, such as from a water jet.
- Only use single-use disposable tissues or paper towels to clean the milk suction tubes with temperature and level sensors, all in-ternal parts of the refrigerator, the cleaning key and the coffee outlets. Cloths used to clean external parts of the machine should be properly treated to prevent possible bacterial contamination.
Machine Hygiene
- Frequent automated rinsing (internally and externally) takes place to sustain high hygiene standards throughout the machine life. Commercial use
- This machine is intended to be used by experts or trained users in shops, light industry and on farms.
Office use
- At least one copy of this user manual should be kept in a location available at all times to maintenance and management staff. Maintenance Work
- A notification will appear on the coffee machine display if the machine needs to be serviced. The machine should be serviced by authorized and trained service providers at least once every year or every 96,000 (4 x 24,000) product beverages.
Disposal
- The machine and its packaging should be disposed of by an authorized and trained service provider. Do not dispose of the ma-chine or its components yourself.
Limitation of Liability
- The manufacturer cannot be held liable for any injuries or accidents resulting from failure to follow the safety instructions included in this manual.
- The manufacturer also cannot be held liable for any damage caused by misuse or inappropriate handling of the machine.
Warranty Provisions
- The warranty provisions as agreed with Nespresso apply.
- Malfunctions due to misuse or connecting unsuitable connections will not be compensated.
- Wear and tear parts are also not covered by the warranty.
- All Nespresso machines must pass stringent controls.
Reliability tests under practical conditions are performed randomly on selected units. Traces of previous use may appear as a result.
General Information
Risk of Property Damage
- This equipment must be installed in accordance with applicable federal, state or local plumbing codes.
- Improper handling of the machine can result in property damage.
- This machine is designed for indoor use only. Keep it in a controlled environnement (protected from dust, moist, direct sunlight, pests, etc.).
- Clean the machine within 24 hrs of the first milk recipe preparation or before taking it out of service for an extended period of time. Remove and empty the capsule container, then unplug the machine. Remove and empty the milk container(s), then clean and store with the lid open. Leave the refrigerator door open when the machine is unplugged.
- Ambient temperature must be between 60 °F and 90 °F for optimal performance.
- Place the machine on a flat, level, stable, heat-resistant and fluid-resistant surface.
- Do not place the machine where a water jet may be used for cleaning.
- Leave at least 2 in of space in front of air vents.
- Store the machine in a dust-free and dry environment, and always above 32 °F.
- The top of the machine should be at least 5 ft above the floor.
- Place the machine at least 8 in away from the user.
- Use Thermopylae cleaning accessories only.
- Never use the machine without the drip tray.
- The manufacturer does not accept any liability for consequences arising from both internal and external modifications to the machine.
- Do not store explosive or flammable substances, such as aerosol cans with a flammable propellant, inside the machine.
- Never use the cup heater for drying wet cups due to risk of electric shock.
- Always place cups upside-down to ensure good heat transfer.

First Use

The general handling instructions apply to both coffee units unless explicitly
stated otherwise.

Only use heat-treated (e.g., pas-teurized or ultra-pasteurized) cow’s milk.
Practice good hygiene when cleaning the milk container(s).
Check hygiene before pouring milk into the container(s).
Do not use milk that has been open for more than 24 hrs.
The use and/or consumption of potentially unsafe food products can promote
food-borne ill-nesses, potentially leading to severe health hazards.

Clean the milk container(s) in a dish-washer.

Carefully wipe off both milk suction tubes using only single-use disposable tissues or paper towels.

Fill each container with the desired milk type and match the color code accordingly.
Change the milk every hrs. -
Insert both milk suction tubes through the covers into the milk container(s).
The ideal temperature for foaming milk is 40 °F.
The type of milk affects foam quality. When switching from pasteurized to ultra-pasteurized milk, it may be necessary to adjust the milk foam settings
Ultra-pasteurized milk is ideal for foaming. It is slightly easier to foam compared to pasteurized milk.
The settings for the left milk container do not automatically apply to the right milk container. The settings for both containers have to be configured separately.
Using Two Types of Milk
If you want to use two types of cow’s milk, label the different types on the
outside of the machine and the inside of the refrigerator.
The milk container(s) and suction tubes come color-coded. Pre-printed stickers
with the same color code are included in delivery.
WARNING

Allergens can be fatal to certain individuals.
Always clean the container(s) in a dishwasher after use.
Do not mix containers together.
Do not use the same paper towel to clean different milk tubes.
- Place the appropriate sticker on the left side and the appropriate sticker on the right side in the refrigerator as shown.
- Place the other sticker on the right side of the milk-based coffee recipes buttons on the left coffee unit.
- Place the other appropriate sticker on the right side of the milk-based coffee recipes buttons on the right coffee unit.
- Properly labeled machine:
Energy Saving mode
The machine switches to energy saving mode after 30 min of in-activity. All
buttons show white, boiler heating is reduced, the refrigerator is still
working.
Press any button to return the machine to operating mode.
Maximum Energy Saving mode
Pressing the button for 3 sec activates maximum energy saving mode.

After 4 hrs of inactivity, the machine switches to maximum energy saving mode. Boiler heating is turned off and the refrigerator is still working.
Press the energy saving button to restart the machine.
The machine starts an automatic rinse or may require a cold start rinse . -
If required, close all levers.

Coffee heads can be used simultaneously to prepare coffee.
Add/Stop Product
Press the product button again to stop product preparation.
To add to your beverage, press the product button within 1 min after the end
of product preparation.

For milk-based coffee recipes, place your cup under the right-hand outlet.
Do not remove your cup until display shows “Ready” again. Some products have a
brief pause between milk and coffee dispensing.
The dispensing sequence may vary by product.
Milk System Rinsing
The milk system is rinsed automatically in order to ensure high hygiene
standards.
CAUTION
Risk of scalding
The milk system is rinsed automatically 5 min after the preparation of a milk-
based beverage.
This takes approx. 25 sec.
Avoid direct contact with hot water.
Protect hands from scalding.

The milk system is rinsed automatically in order to ensure high hygiene
standards.

The milk system is rinsed automatically 5 min after the preparation of a milk-
based beverage.
This takes approx. 25 sec.
Avoid direct contact with hot water.
Protect hands from scalding.
Automatic internal rinsing: The milk system undergoes internal rinsing
lasting approx. 20 sec. immediately after each milk-based beverage is
prepared.
Automatic external rinsing: The milk system undergoes automatic rinsing
lasting ap-prox. 25 sec 5 min after the last milk-based beverage is prepared.
Hot Water Preparation
- Hot Water
For hot water preparation, place your cup under the left-hand outlet.
CAUTION
Risk of scalding
Contact with hot liquids could result in minor or moderate injury.
Avoid direct contact with hot water.
Protect hands from scalding.
Add or stop product dispensing within 1 min.
Daily Cleaning
(Duration approx. 30 min)
The machine prompts cleaning within 24 hrs of the last milk preparation.
The display will show a reminder with a timer 2 hrs before mandatory daily
cleaning is required.
Cleaning the machine daily is necessary to maintain high hygiene standards, ensuring perfect in-cup taste every time and prolonging the life of the machine.
External Cleaning
Remember to regularly inspect and, if necessary, clean the exterior of the
machine.
Use a damp cloth or sponge soaked in warm, soapy water.
Thoroughly wring out cloths and sponges to ensure that they are only damp and
not soaked, otherwise there is a risk of electric shock.
Only use mild detergents and non-abrasive cloths.
Pay particular attention to the product dispensing parts.
Take special care when cleaning the display and keypad.
Internal Cleaning
Follow these instructions carefully to run the automatic cleaning process.
CAUTION
Risk of chemical burns
Direct contact of the eyes with cleaning detergent may cause injury.
Clean your hands after handling cleaning tablets.
Wear gloves/goggles.
NOTICE
Cleaning Solutions
Using improper cleaning solutions may damage parts of the machine or result in
inefficient cleaning.
Only use the Thermopylae milk cleaning tablets to automatically clean the
machine.

Empty the capsule container daily or when prompted (capacity approx. 130 capsules per container).
-
Press the cleaning button.
-
Press the button again and hold for 3 sec to start cleaning.
To stop cleaning, press any other button. -
Carefully remove and empty the milk container(s).
-
Carefully wipe off both milk suction tubes, using a fresh single-use disposable tissue or paper towel for each tube. Afterward, press any button.
-
Clean the milk container(s) in a dish-washer and set aside.
-
Place the empty 5 l milk container in the refrigerator and insert both suction tubes into the container. Press any button.
-
Remove the cleaning key and insert two cleaning tablets.
-
The cleaning process starts automatically after the cleaning key is inserted.
-
After the cleaning process, the machine switches to maximum energy saving mode.
To restart the machine from maximum energy saving mode: . -
After cleaning, carefully wipe off both milk suction tubes, using a fresh single-use disposable tissue or paper towel for each tube. Using non-disposable tissues or sponges can cause bacterial contamination in the milk. Thoroughly clean the inside walls of the refrigerator with potable water.

Pour out the remaining water, then clean the 5 l milk container in a dishwasher.Put the empty milk container(s) back in the refrigerator.
CAUTION
Risk of scalding
Once cleaning is complete, re-sidual hot water may drop from product outlets.
Avoid direct contact with hot water.
Protect hands from scalding. -
Use the extraction tool to pull down the coffee outlets.

Remove both coffee outlets. Properly rinse the coffee outlets with fresh potable water.
Clean each milk outlet with a fresh, damp single-use tissue or paper towel. -
Reinsert the coffee outlets.
-
Pull out the drip grates for small cups (only in vertical position) and the drip tray grate. Clean all parts.
-
Reinsert the the drip grates for small cups.
The drip grates for small cups can only be removed when in vertical position. -
Daily cleaning process complete (machine in maximum energy saving mode). If you need to reactivate the machine, press the
Energy Saving button as described . -
Remove the drip grates and wash with a soft cloth and mild detergent under running water.

Remove the black plastic plug found in the plastic tray.
-
Pull the metal frame towards you to remove it.
-
Remove and clean the black plastic tray with warm, soapy water.
Cleaning complete. -
Follow the above steps in reverse order to assemble the drip tray.
At the end of the cleaning cycle, make sure the refrigerator is closed (risk of freezing).
Complete the cleaning cycle before leaving the machine unattended.

AGUILA+ Button Programming
The AGUILA+ button offers the choice of 13 one-touch milk-
based coffee recipes. To select the one-touch recipe you would like to
dispense when the AGUILA+ but-ton is pressed, follow the instruc-tions below.
You can change your selection at any time by repeating these steps.

To change the amount of milk foam, simply change the % of air in the milk foam
as shown on this page:

The settings for the left milk container do not automatically apply to the
