Introduction

Thank you for choosing FS S5500-48T6SP-R PoE+ Switch. This guide is designed to familiarize you with the layout of the switch and describes how to deploy the switch in your network.

Buttons Description
SWAP Swap function, used to switch POE indication.

LEDs Status Description
PWR On The switch is powered on.
SYS On The system is being started up.
Blink The system works normally.
POE On The port is linked.
Off The port is not linked.

Site Environment

Make sure that the site environment is well-ventilated, the heat of electrical devices is well-discharged and sufficient air circulation is provided for device cooling.
Avoid to damage devices by following the electrostatic discharge prevention procedure.
Ensure that there is adequate air flow around the switch. Make sure the machine box is sealed because the opened machine box will reverse the cool air flow.

Mounting the Switch

Desk Mounting

  1. Attach four rubber pads to the bottom.
  2. Place the chassis on a desk.

Rack Mounting

  1. Fix the mounting brackets to the two sides of the switch with six M3 screws.FS COM S5500 48T6SP R 48 Port Gigabit Ethernet L3 PoE  Switch - Fig 8
  2. Attach the switch to the rack with four M6 screws and cage nuts.

Grounding the Switch

  1. FS COM S5500 48T6SP R 48 Port Gigabit Ethernet L3 PoE  Switch - Fig 9Connect one end of the grounding cable to a proper earth ground, such as the rack in which the switch is mounted.
  2. Fix the grounding lug to the grounding point on the back panel of the switch with washers and screws.
    CAUTION: The earth connection cannot be removed unless all supply onnections have been disconnected.

Connecting the Power

  1. Plug the AC power cord into the power port on the back panel of the switch.
  2. Connect the other end of the power cord to an AC power source.
    CAUTION: Do not install power cables while the power is on.

Connecting the Console Port

  1. Connect the console port and the terminal or PC’s serial port through specific console cable.
  2. Run terminal emulation software, such as super Windows terminal.

Connecting the RJ45 Port

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable to the RJ45 port of IP cameras, IP telephones, Access Points (AP), or other network devices.
  2. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the RJ45 port of the switch.

Connecting SFP+ Ports

  1. FS COM S5500 48T6SP R 48 Port Gigabit Ethernet L3 PoE  Switch - Fig 12 Plug the compatible SFP+ transceiver into the SFP+ port.
  2. Connect a fiber cable to the fiber transceivers. Then connect the other end of the cable to network routers or other fiber devices.
    WARNING: Laser beams will cause eye damage. Do not look into bores of optical modules or optical fibers without eye protection.

Stacking the S5500-48T6SP-R PoE+ Switch

The S5500-48T6SP-R PoE+ switch support stacking up to 8 units between the same model together.
It can be physically stacked using optical fiber cables connected to SFP+ tranceivers, or 10G Direct
Attach Cables(DAC). Any 2 SFP+ ports on rear panel of the switch can be used for physical stacking.

Configuring the Switch

Configuring the Switch Using the Web-based Interface
Step 1: Connect your computer to any Ethernet port of the switch with the network cable.
Step 2: Set up the IP confguration on your computer. The IP address of your computer should be set in the same subnet addresses of the switch. The IP address is  192.168.1.x (“x” is any number from 2 to 254).
Step 3: Open a browser. Enter the default IP address of the switch http://192.168.1.1.
Step 4: When the login page appears, choose the language you need and enter the username and password(admin/admin).

You are now ready to configure the switch. Refer to the S5500-48T6SP-R PoE+ switch Configuration Guide online for further information.
Configuring the Switch Using the Console Port
Step 1: Connect a computer to the switch’s console port with the supplied console cable.
Step 2: Start the terminal simulation software such as HyperTerminal on the computer.
Step 3: Configure the terminal simulation with the following parameters:

  • 9600 bits per second
  • 8 data bits
  • 1 stop bit
  • no sum check bit
  • no traffic control

Step 4: Enter the username and password(admin/admin).
CAUTION: Be sure to save settings before exiting the software.

Troubleshooting

Power LED Working Abnormally

  1. Check the power cable connections at the switch and the power outlet and whether the power
    on-off is at “ON” location.

  2. Make sure that all cables are used correctly and comply with the Ethernet specifications.

HyperTerminal Displaying Abnormally

  1. Make sure the power supply is normal and the console cable is properly connected.
  2. Check whether the console cable is the right type.
  3. Check whether the control cable driver is properly installed on the computer.
  4. Ensure the parameters of the HyperTerminal are correct.

Accessing the Web-based Configuration Page Unsuccessfully

  1. Check every port and LED on the switch and make sure the Ethernet cable is connected properly.
  2. Try another port on the switch and make sure the Ethernet cable is suitable and works normally.
  3. Power off the switch for a while, then power it on again.
  4. Make sure the IP address of your PC is set within the subnet of the switch.
  5. If you still cannot access the configuration page, please restore the switch to its factory defaults.
    Then the IP address of your PC should be set as 192.168.1.x (“x” is any number from 2 to 254) and Subnet Mask as 255.255.255.0.
