EDWARDS 2010-2-DACT Digital Alarm Communicator Transmitter
Installation Sheet
Description
The 2010-2-DACT Digital Alarm Communicator Transmitter (DACT) provides
communications between a compatible control panel and a central monitoring
station (CMS) over the public switched telephone network (PSTN). The DACT uses
the Contact ID (CID) protocol and is capable of single, dual, or split
reporting of events to up to six configurable central monitoring stations. An
optional GPRS board (product code ATS7310, not supplied) can be installed onto
the DACT to provide mobile network communications.

Installation
WARNING: Electrocution hazard. To avoid personal injury or death from electrocution, remove all sources of power and allow stored energy to discharge before installing or removing equipment.
To install the DACT board:
-
Install the DACT board into slot 3 of the control panel chassis, as shown in Figure 1. Secure the board to the chassis with the screw provided.
-
Remove the RJ-11 jack (or regional equivalent) from one end of each telephone cable used and replace it with the connector provided (wiring is not polarity sensitive).
-
Connect lines 1 and 2 to the DACT using either the PBX or PSTN channels as required, and then to the PBX equipment or PSTN network, as shown in Figure 2.
A second line may be connected to provide an optional backup channel in the event of a communications error on the primary line. -
Restore the control panel power.
-
Configure the DACT and CMS settings at the control panel. See your control panel installation manual for further information.
Note: All other PBX communication is interrupted when the DACT sends
event information via a PBX channel. For increased security and to avoid such
interruptions, we recommend using a dedicated line for fire system event
communications.
Declaring EN 54-21 compliance
Declaration of EN 54-21 compliance for alarm transmission and fault warning
routing equipment is mandatory. When the DACT is installed and configured,
tick the EN 54-21 check box on the label located on the underneath of the
control panel door.
Installing the GPRS board
The GPRS board is not included with the DACT board and only limited
installation information is included here. Refer to the installation sheet
included with the product for detailed functional and technical
specifications.
Caution: Never connect a power source to the GPRS board power terminals. When used as described in this document, the board is powered by the control panel and does not require an external power supply.
To install the GPRS board:
- Install the GPRS board onto the DACT board.
- Use the plastic spacers provided and push the GPRS board firmly onto the GPRS connector of the DACT board (Figure 1, item 3).
- Check that the DIP switch settings match those described in “DIP switch settings” below.
- Insert the SIM card into the SIM socket.
- Connect the antenna to the GPRS board. Ensure a minimum distance of 2 m between the GPRS antenna and any radio equipment.
- Restore the control panel power and test the GPRS signal strength as described in “Testing” below.
- Configure the GPRS and CMS settings at the control panel. See your control panel installation manual for further information.

Select Test from the Main menu, and then select DACT test.
-
Select CMS.
A test message is sent to all configured CMS accounts and the test result is displayed on-screen. -
Press F2 (Exit) to end the test and exit the menu.
Note: Make sure that the DACT, GPRS (if applicable), and CMS account
information is configured at the control panel before performing this test.
To test the GPRS signal strength:
- Select Test from the Main menu, and then select DACT test.
- Select GPRS.
- The GPRS signal strength is displayed on the control panel LCD.
- No signal is indicated as −111 dBm. A good signal is in the range −60 to 0 dBm (with the signal improving closer to 0 dBm).
- Adjust the antenna position to improve the signal strength, if required.
- Press F2 (Exit) to end the test and exit the menu.
