Octave Divider
OCTAVE DIVIDER
Quick Start Guide
1. IN : A standard 1/4″(TS) input jack
2. OUT : A standard 1/4″(TS) output jack sending a mono output signal to whatever comes next in your signal chain
3. POWER: The OCTAVE DIVIDER runs on a 9V DC power supply center negative
4. AUX: A 1/8” (TS) output jack used to send dry unaffected signal to other effects or to a seperate amplifier
5. STABILIZE TOGGLE SWITCH: Eliminates all “hunting” and “breaking up” of sub-octave for guitar or keyboards. (Not usually necessary for wind instruments).
OFF : Does not attempt to track pitch variations. Can allow for “gurguling” and ring modulation.
ON: Attempts to track note throughout pitch variations such as bends and vibrato. Provides a “smoother” feel.
6. RINGER TOGGLE SWITCH:
OFF : Bypasses “Green Ringer” circuit
ON: Activates “Green Ringer” circuit. Generates a tone one octave up and slight ring modulation effect. Works well with fuzz and distortion pedals placed after OCTAVE DIVIDER.
For best results, use neck pickup and roll tone knob into “off” position.
7. MIX: Blends original sound with sub-octave. Full treble is all original tone; full bass is all sub-octave signal.
8. TONE: Controls the tone of the octave-down signal. Full LOW is a mellow, brassy sound; full HIGH is a brighter, “fuzzy electronic bass” sound.
9. EFFECT FOOTSWITCH: Determines whether the OCTAVE DIVIDER effect is engaged or bypassed.
ON-OFF LED : When the LED is OFF, the effect is bypassed. When the LED is ON, the effect is engaged.
10. BASS ONLY FOOTSWITCH : Determines whether the octave-down signal is solo. The dry signal and the “Green Ringer” signal will both be bypassed when footswitch is engaged.
BASS ONLY LED: When the LED is OFF, all signals are present. When the LED is ON, the dry signal is bypassed, as is the “Green Ringer” signal if it is engaged.

Operating Instructions:
The Mu-Tron OCTAVE DVIDER makes the full, harmonically rich option of “playing in octaves” available to all horn and stringed instrument players. This live effect is created by newly developed circuitry that analyzes the original signal and “pairs” it with the note one octave below, matching tone color and dynamics over an exceptionally wide range. The unique “stabilization” circuit (patent pending) enables the Mu-Tron OCTAVE DVIDER to “lock into❞ the musical tone and sound a simultaneous sub-octave with accuracy that is not found in any other device. An important advance in electronic music technology, the OCTAVE DVIDER has the same quality, ruggedness, and reliability that makes Mu- Tron the first choice of professional musicians.
Features:
- The ability to preserve dynamics and harmonic content of the original signal in the sub-octave.
- A stabilization circuit that “locks into” all single-voiced signals.
- A tone color control for sub-octave.
- A ringer circuit for harmonic emphasis of upper tones, and special multi-note effects.
- A novel mixing circuit with BASS ONLY switch for extended range and dramatic effects.
- Auxiliary impedance-compensated output.
- LED (light emitting diode) indicators to show operating status of effects.
- 9V DC powered in rugged Mu-Tron enclosure.
Use with other devices
The OCTAVE DVIDER can be used successfully with many other devices, but the OCTAVE DVIDER must be the first to receive the signal from the instrument. The OCTAVE DVIDER followed by a Micro-Tron IV or a Mu-Tron BI-PHASE are especially effective.
Ringer
Provides multiple effects of distortion, extra note generation, and a kind of “octave up” effect. RINGER effect is added to output, regardless of MIX. The more “pure” the instrument tone, the stronger the “octave up” effect. For the strongest “octave up”, turn MIX full down to eliminate the originally played register. STRINGED INSTRUMENTS: neck pick-up tone down, volume up full. (GUITAR, play from tenth fret up on all strings.) Two notes played simultaneously will beat with each other, producing “extra” notes. Try parallel fourths, fifths, or other simple chords. MIX full up. WIND INSTRUMENTS: play with clear “round” tone.
