What and Who is Covered and For How Long
CertainTeed LLC warrants to you, the original owner of its RoofRunner Synthetic Roof Deck Underlayment that when subject to normal and proper use, RoofRunner will be free from manufacturing defects for the length of the warranty term. In the event that RoofRunner is installed underneath shingles manufactured by CertainTeed, CertainTeed warrants RoofRunner for the same length of time applicable for the installed CertainTeed shingles. In the event that roofing shingles not manufactured by CertainTeed are installed over RoofRunner, this Limited Warranty extends for ten (10) years from the date of RoofRunner installation. The warranty period starts from the completion of installation of your RoofRunner and terminates if either the RoofRunner or the overlying roofing materials are removed. For any portion of your RoofRunner that CertainTeed determines has a manufacturing defect, CertainTeed will contribute to the cost of either repairing or replacing your RoofRunner, as follows.
SureStart™ Protection
Under the SureStart warranty feature, for the first three years after installation of RoofRunner
- If CertainTeed shingles are installed: CertainTeed will pay you the reasonable cost of labor to repair or replace the RoofRunner, including labor to re-install both it and the CertainTeed shingles over the affected portion (exclusive of roof tear off, metal work, flashings, disposal expense and other related work), and will provide replacement RoofRunner and CertainTeed shingles.
- If non-CertainTeed roofing shingles are installed: CertainTeed will pay you the reasonable cost of labor to repair or replace the defective RoofRunner including labor to re-install the replacement RoofRunner only over the affected portion (exclusive of shingles or other roofing material, tear off, metal work, flashings, disposal expense and other related work), and will provide the replacement RoofRunner.
After SureStart Protection
After the SureStart Protection period, should CertainTeed determine that your RoofRunner has a manufacturing defect, CertainTeed’s maximum contribution toward the cost of repairing or replacing the RoofRunner at CertainTeed’s sole option, will be based on providing replacement RoofRunner in an amount calculated by dividing the remaining number of months in the warranty period by the total number of months of the warranty period, and multiplying that amount by the original cost you paid for the RoofRunner excluding the cost of labor, shingles or other roofing material, metal work, flashings, disposal expense and other related work. In the event that you are unable to provide an original proof of purchase for the RoofRunner, CertainTeed will use a reasonable cost of RoofRunner at the time of installation. The cost of labor to re-install your RoofRunner and the costs related to your shingles are not included in the repair or replacement. Decisions as to the required extent of repair or replacement will be made solely by CertainTeed. CertainTeed reserves the right to arrange directly for your RoofRunner to be repaired or replaced instead of reimbursing you for such work. The remedy under this Limited Warranty is available only for that portion of your RoofRunner actually exhibiting manufacturing defects at the time the claim is submitted to CertainTeed. Any replacement RoofRunner as well as any remaining original RoofRunner will be warranted only for the remainder of the original warranty period. CertainTeed reserves the right to discontinue or modify RoofRunner.
Transferability: Remedy for the Second Owner
This Limited Warranty may only be transferred once – from the original owner to the first subsequent owner as follows
- If the transfer takes place within the first three (3) years after installation of RoofRunner (the SureStart Protection Period), the second owner shall be entitled to all benefits contained in this warranty as the original owner.
- If the transfer takes place after the first three (3) years of installation, the length of this warranty shall be limited to two (2) years after ownership changes. During this two-year period, CertainTeed will provide replacement RoofRunner as calculated in the “After SureStart Protection Period” section above.
Limitations of Coverage
This Limited Warranty does not provide protection against, and CertainTeed will have no liability for any failure, defect or damage as a result of, including but not limited to:
- Damage to your RoofRunner not resulting from a manufacturing defect in your RoofRunner including such things as:
- Improper installation of your RoofRunner or application not in strict accordance with CertainTeed’s published application instructions.
- Exposure to the elements (except for damages resulting from UV degradation if left exposed for less than 90 days).
- Settlement, movement or defects in the building, walls, foundation or the roof base over which RoofRunner is applied.
- Inadequate attic ventilation or application of RoofRunner directly to insulation or to an insulated deck.
- Damage to your RoofRunner resulting from causes beyond normal wear and tear such as:
- Acts of nature (such as hail, windstorms, hurricanes or tornados) or ice damming.
- Impact of foreign objects or traffic on the roof.
- Improper storage or handling of your RoofRunner.
- Leaks caused by fasteners.
- Damage caused by structural changes, alterations or additions, or by the installation of equipment (such as, but not limited to, aerials, signs or air-conditioning equipment) to the building after RoofRunner has been applied.
- Labor costs (except as specifically provided for above), disposal costs, and any costs relating to shingles (except as specifically provided for above), metal work, flashings and roof deck.
- Damage to the interior or exterior of any building, including, but not limited to, mold growth.
Claims: What You Must Do
To file a claim under this Limited Warranty, you must send a notice of claim in writing, together with proof of purchase to establish that you are the original owner (or proof of transfer if the second owner has properly transferred coverage), and proof of application date to: CertainTeed, Technical Services Department, 1508 Delp Road, Harleysville, PA 19438, USA (1-800-345-1145) within 30 days after your discovery of the alleged defect. NOTE: Notice to your contractor, dealer or home builder is NOT notice to CertainTeed. Within a reasonable time after proper notification, CertainTeed will evaluate your claim and resolve it in accordance with the terms of this Limited Warranty. CertainTeed may require you to submit, at your expense, sample RoofRunner for testing and photographs.
Exclusive Warranty and Limitations of Remedies
THIS DOCUMENT CONSTITUTES THE EXCLUSIVE WARRANTY AND SOLE REMEDIES PROVIDED BY
CERTAINTEED. THE WARRANTY AND REMEDIES CONTAINED IN THIS DOCUMENT ARE
EXPRESSLY IN LIEU OF ANY AND ALL OTHER OBLIGATIONS, GUARANTEES, WARRANTIES AND
REPRESENTATIONS, WHETHER WRITTEN, ORAL, IMPLIED BY STATUTE, AT LAW OR IN
EQUITY, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF
MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR USE AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. SOME
STATES OR JURISDICTIONS MAY
NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES OR MAY DETERMINE THE PERIOD OF
TIME FOLLOWING THE SALE THAT A PURCHASER MAY SEEK A REMEDY UNDER IMPLIED
WARRANTIES, SO THE ABOVE EXCLUSION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. CERTAINTEED’S
OBLIGATIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND LIABILITY SHALL BE LIMITED TO REPAIRING OR
REPLACING THE DEFECTIVE PRODUCT AS SET FORTH IN THIS LIMITED WARRANTY. IN NO
EVENT SHALL CERTAINTEED BE LIABLE FOR ANY PUNITIVE, SPECIAL, INDIRECT,
INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING ANY DAMAGE TO THE
PROPERTY, THE BUILDING OR ITS CONTENTS, OR FOR INJURY TO ANY PERSONS, THAT MAY
OCCUR AS A RESULT OF THE USE OF CERTAINTEED’S PRODUCTS OR AS A RESULT OF THE
BREACH OF THIS WARRANTY. IF YOUR STATE OR PROVINCE DOES NOT ALLOW EXCLUSIONS
OR LIMITATIONS OF PUNITIVE, SPECIAL, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL
DAMAGES, THE ABOVE LIMITATIONS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.IN NO EVENT SHALL
CERTAINTEED’S TOTAL LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE PRODUCT(S) OR
THIS WARRANTY EXCEED THE COST OF REPLACEMENT RoofRunner, THE LABOR COSTS
RELATING TO THE INSTALLATION OF SUCH REPLACEMENT RoofRunner AND, ONLY IF
CERTAINTEED SHINGLES WERE INSTALLED ABOVE THE RoofRunner, THE COST TO RE-
INSTALL CERTAINTEED SHINGLES AND THE NECESSARY REPLACEMENT CERTAINTEED
SHINGLES. Any payments made pursuant to this Limited Warranty will be made in
U.S. dollars. This Limited Warranty may not be modified, altered or expanded
by anyone, including product distributors, dealers, sellers and/or CertainTeed
field representatives. This Limited Warranty gives you specific legal rights
and you may also have other rights which vary from State to State or Province
to Province.
Effective Date
This Limited Warranty is effective for CertainTeed RoofRunner installed within the Continental United States, Hawaii, and Canada after January 1, 2022.
