INSTALLATION

STEP 1
The Steel Horse Audio ST900 Platinum Edition Motorcycle Speaker System can be used with any 12-volt battery and can be mounted to a variety of bars using the included hardware. Mount the speakers where they have sufficient clearance, position the speakers so they are directly facing the rider.

MOUNT BRACKETS TO HANDLEBAR FIRST, THEN INSTALL SPEAKERS
Determine the diameter of the handlebar and use either the 1” Bracket or the 1-1/4” Bracket
Note: If you have a different diameter handlebar *7/8″, 1-1/8″ or 1-1/2″) you can request that bracket separately and we will ship them free of charge .STEEL-HORSE-AUDIO-ST900-Platinum-Speaker-System-7

STEP 2 Install brackets where speakers do not obstruct the riders view (such as the handlebars, engine guards or highway/crash bars). Use allen screws that are included on the bracket. The clamps themselves will tighten to the bar when the speakers are installed

STEP 3 Once brackets are installed, add the speakers:
A) Remove the nut and lock washer only and feed the speaker wire through the bracket hole and attach each speaker to the bracket. Put the lock washer and nut back on through the wire and tighten speaker to clamp. (Flat washer and lock washer go on the bottom). Do not over-tighten!

STEP 4 Adjust the speakers so they are directed at the rider’s head. To adjust, just slightly loosen the nut on the speaker stem and move the speaker up or down to align. Make sure all screws are securely fastened and tightened.

STEP 5 Route speaker wires through the bike’s frame to where the amplifier will be installed and proceed to the next steps in amplifier and power connection.
Notice: SECURE THE WIRING AWAY FROM MOVING PARTS, PINCH POINTS, OR EXTREME HEAT. STEEL HORSE AUDIO WILL NOT PROVIDE WARRANTY COVERAGE ON ANY ELECTRICAL COMPONENT THAT FAILS DUE TO PINCHED, CRIMPED, BROKEN, ABRADED, MELTED, OR FRAYED WIRES.

AMPLIFIER & POWER CONNECTION

AMPLIFIER MOUNTING

Find a place to mount the amplifier away from direct exposure to the elements such as a tool compartment, under the seat, fork bag, saddlebag, swing arm bag, windshield bag, etc. Most places will be fine, but try to avoid areas that could cause extreme overheating (such as tight places wrapped in foam or cotton). The amp can get some moisture but is not waterproof!Note: Keep the included fuse off the fuse holder until all wiring connections have been made and secured.

AMPLIFIER POWER CONNECTION
  • STEP 1 Pull out the power block plug from the amp to begin power wire connection. Then, take the thick black wire included with the amp and attach it to (G)round on the power block, then run the other end to the negative (-) battery terminal (or to the vehicle’s chassis where paint has been removed).
  • STEP 2 Take the longer red power wire included with the amp and attach it to (B+) positive on the power block, then connect the other end to positive (+) battery terminal.
  • STEP 3 Take the blue remote-on wire and run it to where the Bluetooth® Receiver + Controller will be mounted. (If you will NOT be using the Bluetooth/Controller, then connect this to a switched power source (headlight, tallight, etc) instead.
Notice: If these blue, black & red wires are not connected, system will NOT work.
Speaker to Amplifier connection

Connect the speaker wires to the corresponding wires on the amplifier as follows:

  • STEP 1
LEFT SPEAKER (-): Connect the SQUARED wire w/ WHITE LETTERING to the WHITE/BLACK wire from the amp (L-)

  • STEP 2
Connect the solid black wire( +) from the LEFT SPEAKER (+): Connect the ROUNDED wire to the WHITE wire from the amplifier (Lleft speaker to the white wire from the amp.+)

  • STEP 3
Connect the stripped blackblack wire with dash wire(- ) from the right speakeRIGHT SPEAKER (-): Connect the SQUARED wire w/ WHITE LETTERING to the GREY/BLACK wire from the amp (R-)r to the gray/whiteGray/Black (-) (+) wire from the amp.

  • STEP 4
Connect the solid black wire( +) from the RIGHT SPEAKER (+): Connect the ROUNDED wire to the GREY wire from the amplifier (R+) right speaker to the gray wire from the amp.

Notice: To use AUX-IN Only (No Bluetooth/No Controller): Connect RCA end to amplifier RCA inputs & other end to headphone port of your audio device/mobile and skip to final steps. Note: with this type of connection, the audio source will control the volume of the system.

To use BLUETOOTH (and the handlebar controller) you must complete these steps:

  • STEP 1 Connect the Red wire power wire from the MTX controller wire harness to the positive terminal on the battery. The Black wire is a ground wire and needs to be attached to the negative terminal on the battery (or a place on the frame where paint is removed).

  • STEP 2 Extend and connect the Blue 12V output wire from the Bluetooth Audio Controller to the Blue wire from the Rockford amplifier (that you ran earlier). This will allow the Bluetooth Audio Controller to turn on and off the system (plus it has an auto-off after 5 minutes of no source connection to prevent battery drain!).
Note: The blue wire on the Bluetooth Audio Controller should not be connected to any positive or negative 12V source. This wire needs to connect to the blue remote wire from the amplifier ONLY. Do not connect it to the main power of any device.
Use the included 3.5mm to RCA cable and connect directly to the 3.5mm female connector on the Bluetooth Audio Controller. Route and secure the wiring away from any moving parts,
Notice: Connect the other end (RCA) to the FRONT (Input) side of the amplifier RCA Harness.

  • STEP 3 Use the included 3.5mm to RCA cable and connect directly to the 3.5mm female connector on the Bluetooth Audio Controller. Route and secure the wiring away from any moving parts,
Connect the other end (RCA) to the FRONT (Input) side of the amplifier RCA Harness.STEEL-HORSE-AUDIO-ST900-Platinum-Speaker-

IMPORTANT FINAL STEPS

!!! IMPORTANT !!!

  1. When First Listening to your system, you will need to adjust the GAIN on the amplifier to your preferred level. We recommend between 9 and 11. Also check the volume levels and EQ on your audio device. This step can make a huge difference in sound quality and volume output level.
  2. Always select 2 Channel (2CH.) on this amplifier – this is for the INPUT and input will always be 2 channel regardless of how many speakers you use
  3. Also, ALWAYS be sure to set the crossover switch to HP or AP ONLY on the amp (Test them both to get the sound that is best for you)

REMOTE OPERATION

  1. Play/Pause- The Play/Pause button gives you the ability to play or to pause the current track with a single press. Holding the Play/Power button for 2 seconds will turn the unit On if currently Off or Off if currently powered On. The unit will beep to indicate when power is turned Off.
    Note:

    • The unit will stay on indefinitely as long as a Bluetooth device is actively paired to the MUDBTRC.
    • The unit will turn Off after 5 minutes when there is no active Bluetooth device connection.
    • The Play/Pause button will illuminate when the unit is powered On.
    • The Play/Pause button will blink when the music track is paused.
  2. Track Forward and Track Back- The unit will switch audio tracks being played by pressing the track forward and track back buttons. Pressing and holding these buttons for 2 seconds will fast forward or rewind the audio track that is being played.

  3. Volume Up and Volume Down- These buttons will turn up or turn down the output of the Bluetooth unit so any external connected amplifier output will go up or down accordingly. When the unit has reached the minimum or maximum output level, the unit will beep to indicate that no further adjustment is possible.

  4. Bluetooth Auto-Pair Mode

    • Turn the unit On.
    • Search for MTX REMOTE from your device’s Bluetooth menu
    • Select Pair.
