Intended Use

This device is only intended to be used to heat water for tea and hot instant beverages.
The device is for personal use only and is not intended for commercial or domestic-like applications, e.g. in hotels, bed and breakfasts, offices, staff kitchens or similar places.
The device should only be used as described in the operating instructions. Any other use is deemed to be improper.

Safety Notices

This device may be used by children aged 8 and over and by people with reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities or a lack of experience and/or knowledge if they are supervised or have received instruction on how to use the device safely and have understood the dangers resulting from failure to comply with the relevant safety precautions.
Children must not play with the device.
Cleaning and user maintenance must not be carried out by children, unless they are older than 8 years of age and are supervised.

CAUTION: hot surfaces!

The device and the accessories are very hot during and shortly after use. While the device is in operation, only the handles and buttons may be touched. Allow the device to cool down completely before it is cleaned.

Never exceed the maximum fill level (MAX marking). If the kettle is overfilled, hot water could splash out or overflow during boiling.
Never immerse the base station and the connecting cable in water or other liquids and ensure that these components cannot fall into water or become wet.
Use the kettle only with the base station provided. Do not use the base station with other devices.
The device is not designed to be operated with an external timer or a separate remote control system.
The device must always be disconnected from the mains when it is left unattended and before assembling and disassembling and befor filling or emptying or cleaning it.
Do not make any modifications to the device. Do not replace the connecting cable yourself. If the device, the base station or the connecting cable are damaged, they must be replaced by the manufacturer, customer service department or authorized distributors in order to avoid any hazards.
It is essential to follow the instructions in the “Cleaning and Care” chapter.

DANGER: Danger of Electric Shock from Water

Use the device only in closed rooms.
Do not use the device in rooms with high humidity.
If the device falls into water, switch off the power supply immediately. Do not attempt to pull the device out of the water while it is still connected to the mains power!
Never touch the base station and the connecting cable with wet hands when the base station is connected to the mains power.
Make sure that the steam which emerges does not come into contact with electrical devices.

WARNING: Danger of Injury

Keep children and animals away from the packaging material. There is a danger of suffocation!
Danger of scalding from heat, hot steam or condensation!
Avoid coming into contact with the rising steam. Do not open the lid of the device during the boiling and heating process.
Never pour water into the kettle when the device is switched on or during the boiling process. Allow the device to cool down before fi lling it again.
Do not move the device during the boiling and heating process.
Make sure that the connecting cable does not present a trip hazard. The connecting cable should not hang down from the surface on which the device is placed in order to prevent the device from being pulled down.

WARNING: Danger of Fire

Do not connect the device along with other consumers (with a high wattage) to a multiple socket in order to prevent overloading and a possible short circuit (fi re).
Do not use the device in conjunction with extension cables.
Do not operate the device in the vicinity of combustible materials. Do not place any combustible materials (e.g. cardboard, paper, wood or plastic) in or on the device.
Do not cover the device during operation.
In the event of a fire: Do not extinguish with water! Smother the flames with a fi reproof blanket or a suitable fire extinguisher.

NOTICE: Risk of Damage to Material and Property

Only use the device if the lid has been placed on correctly and the kettle is placed on the base station correctly!
Lay the connecting cable in such a way that it does not become squashed or bent and does not come into contact with hot surfaces (also applies to the hot surfaces of the device!).
Switch off the device and pull the mains plug out of the plug socket if an error occurs during operation, when there is a power cut or before a thunderstorm.
Never pull or carry the base station by the connecting cable. When you pull it out of the plug socket, always pull on the mains plug and never the mains cable!
Protect the device from other heat sources, naked flames, sub-zero temperatures, persistent moisture, wet conditions and impacts.
Use only original accessories from the manufacturer in order to guarantee that there is no interference that may prevent the device from working and to avoid possible damage.

Before Initial Use

Remove all packaging materials and any possible protective films used for protection during transportation. Never remove the rating plate and any possible warnings.
Wipe the device with a clean, damp cloth. Rinse the kettle (3) and the lid (1) with a little mild detergent and clear water.
Set up the device and connect it (see the “Setting Up and Connecting the Device” chapter).
Before you first use hot water or enjoy tea, we recommend that you carry out a trial run to remove any possible production residues. To do this, follow the instructions in the “Operation” and “Preparation” chapters.
- When the device is first used, production-related additives may cause a small amount of smoke and / or an odour to be produced. This is normal and not a device defect.
Repeat this process twice. Do not drink this water!
Clean the device and accessories (see the “Cleaning and Care” chapter).

Setting Up and Connecting the Device

PLEASE NOTE

Only connect the device to a plug socket that is properly installed and matches the technical data of the device. The plug socket must also be readily accessible after connection so that the connection to the mains can quickly be isolated.
Do not use the device in conjunction with extension cables.
Do not place the device below kitchen wall units or similar cupboards. The rising steam could cause damage to them!
The surfaces of furniture may possibly contain elements which can attack and soften the feet of the device. If necessary, place a suitable pad below the feet.

Place the device on the kitchen unit or another dry, solid, flat, heat-resistant and splash-proof work surface. Ensure there is sufficient clear space on all sides (at least 20 cm to the sides and 30 cm above).
Fully unwind the connecting cable from the cable winder of the base station (4) and plug the mains plug into an easily accessible plug socket. All control lamps light up once and a beep is heard.

Operation

Operating Buttons

On / Off button

The device can be switched on and off with the On / Off button (9). The control lamp in the button lights up as soon as the device is switched on.

Keep-warm button

The keep-warm button (14) is used to switch on the keep-warm function. The control lamp in the button pulses as soon as the function has been switched on.

Temperature Buttons

The temperature buttons (10 – 13) are used to set the temperature of the water. The following settings can be selected

70°C: ideal for very delicate types of tea (white or green tea)
80°C: ideal for oolong tea
90°C: ideal for fruit tea
100°C: ideal for black tea, herbal tea / boiling water

Removing / Attaching the Lid

Hold the lid (1) by the lid handle (2) (Picture A) and pull it off. If the device is being used with the optional tea strainer, this is thus removed from the kettle at the same time.
- If the device was in operation, use potholders as the lid handle may be hot and hot water may drip from the tea strainer. Always allow the device to cool down before fi lling it again.
To close the device, place the lid back on the kettle. When you do this, make sure that it fi ts correctly and engages audibly.

Filling the Kettle

Only ever fill the kettle (3) with fresh, clear tap water. Do not pour in any other liquids.

Open the lid (1) (see the “Operation” chapter | “Removing / Attaching the Lid”).
Pour the quantity of water you want (maximum 1.7 litres) into the kettle. Note the MIN marking (5) and MAX marking (6).
Close the lid (see the “Operation” chapter | “Removing / Attaching the Lid”).

Preparation

NOTICE: Do not operate the device without water. If this does happen, the heating element of the device switches off automatically (protection against running dry). In this case, allow the device to cool down for around 5 – 10 minutes before water is poured in and the device is used again.

If water needs to be added, switch off the device, pull the mains plug out of the socket and allow the device to cool down for a few minutes. When opening the lid (1), use potholders or similar gloves and be careful.

Boiling Water

Pour water into the kettle (3) (see the “Operation” chapter | “Filling the Kettle”).
Place the lid (1) on the kettle (see the “Operation” chapter | “Removing / Attaching the Lid”).
Press the On / Off button (9) . The control lamp in the button lights up, the device starts the heating process. In addition, the control lamp lights up for the temperature level which was chosen last.
If necessary, press the 100°C button (13). The control lamp in the button lights up.
As soon as the water has been heated to 100°C, you will hear 2 short beeps and the device will switch off. Both control lamps go out.

Heating Water

If water is just to be heated to a specific temperature, the water should be boiled once (see the “Preparation” chapter | “Boiling Water”). As soon as it has boiled, allow it to cool down slightly.

Pour water into the kettle (3) (see the “Operation” chapter | “Filling the Kettle”).
Place the lid (1) on the kettle (see the “Operation” chapter | “Removing / Attaching the Lid”).
Press the On / Off button (9) . The control lamp in the button lights up, the device starts the heating process. In addition, the control lamp lights up for the temperature level which was chosen last.
Press the button with the temperature you want (see the “Operation” chapter | “Temperature Buttons”). The control lamp in the corresponding button lights up.
As soon as the water has been heated to the selected temperature, you will hear 2 short beeps and the device will switch off automatically. The control lamps in both buttons go out.

Keeping Warm

If the water in the kettle (3) is to be kept at a certain temperature for a prolonged period, the keep-warm function can be switched on. This is particularly advisable if tea is being prepared in the kettle. The device switches off the heating element once the water has reached the set temperature and switches it back on again as soon as the temperature of the water drops.

Prepare the device (see the “Preparation” chapter).
Press the On / Off button (9) . The control lamp in the button lights up, the device starts the heating process. In addition, the control lamp lights up for the temperature level which was chosen last.
Press the button with the temperature you want (see the “Operation” chapter | “Temperature Buttons”). The control lamp in the corresponding button lights up.
Press the keep-warm button (14). The control lamp in the button pulses. After the end of the heating process, you will hear two short beeps. The control lamps ( On / Off button, keep-warm button, selected temperature button) will light up or continue pulsing. The water is reheated as soon as it starts to cool down. As soon as the thermostat switches the heating back on, the control lamp for the selected temperature button lights up again. The kettle (3) can be removed from the base station (4) and placed back on it at any time. The keep-warm function remains switched on.
If the keep-warm function is to be switched off, press the keep-warm button. A long beep is heard and all three control lamps go out. The keep-warm function switches off automatically after 60 minutes.

Use with Tea Strainer

To make tea directly in the Teatime kettle, you also require our matching BEEM Teatimer Tea Strainer with lid. It can be obtained from selected specialist stockists, directly via our website www.beem.de or from our customer service department on request.

Unscrew the tea strainer from the tea strainer holder (note the marking on the tea strainer).
Fill the tea strainer with tea (see “Tips For Making Tea” chapter).
Screw the tea strainer onto the tea strainer holder (note the marking on the tea strainer) until it engages.
Pull the tea strainer upwards with the aid of the knob (Picture B) and turn it to the right. This will keep it above the water line.
Follow the instructions for making tea depending on the tea used (see the “Tips For Making Tea” chapter).
To immerse the tea strainer in the water, turn the knob to the left and allow the tea strainer to dip into the boiling water.

Tips For Making Tea

Not all tea is the same. In very literal terms, tea is just an aqueous infusion of the tea plant Camellia sinensis. This may be black or green tea. A distinction should be made from tea-like products, the so-called herbal and fruit teas. This also means that not all tea-making can be the same. Depending on the variety, teas are infused with water at a different temperatures in order to bring out the valuable ingredients and the flavor of the particular variety on the one hand and also preserve them on the other hand. For this reason, the different varieties also have infusion times of different lengths. Below we have summarised a few of the most important basics for making tea. But you should also always note the preparation details provided on the packaging. In the case of tea bags, it is essential to note the manufacturer’s preparation instructions.

Black Tea

Proceed as follows to make black tea

Fill the tea strainer with tea leaves (approx. one teaspoon per cup) or tea bags (approx. 1 tea bag for 1 – 2 cups) (see the “Preparation” chapter | “Use with Tea Strainer”).
Pour the appropriate amount of water into the kettle (3) (see the “Operation” chapter | “Filling the Kettle”). Note the MIN marking (5) and MAX marking (6)!
Place the lid with the tea strainer on the kettle (see the “Operation” chapter | “Removing / Attaching the Lid”).
Boil up the water and switch on the keep-warm function (see the “Preparation” chapter | “Boiling Water” and “Keeping Warm”).
As soon as the water has boiled, immerse the tea strainer in the boiling water.
After the required infusion time, pull the tea strainer up again using the knob.
Remove the kettle from the base station (4) and pour the tea into a tea cup or a tea glass.
Then place the kettle back on the base station – this keeps the tea hot.

Green Tea

Green tea should not be prepared with boiling water. Depending on the variety, the ideal temperature is 70 – 80°C. The higher quality the tea, the lower the optimum water temperature. The infusion time also differs depending on the quality of the tea. Most varieties need to infuse for roughly 1 – 3 minutes. High-quality green tea only needs to infuse for around 1 – 1½ minutes. Proceed as follows to make green tea

Fill the tea strainer with tea leaves or tea bags (see the “Preparation” chapter | “Use with Tea Strainer”).
- Green tea generally has a lower concentration than black tea. Roughly 1 g is added to 100 ml of water or 1 heaped teaspoon is added to 200 ml of water.
Pour the appropriate amount of water into the kettle (3) (see the “Operation” chapter | “Filling the Kettle”). Note the MIN marking (5) and MAX marking (6)!
Place the lid with the tea strainer on the kettle (see the “Operation” chapter | “Removing / Attaching the Lid”).
Boil up the water (see the “Preparation” chapter | “Boiling Water”).
Allow the water to cool down slightly and switch the kettle on again after a little while.
Select the appropriate temperature level and switch on the keep-warm function (see the “Preparation” chapter | “Heating Water” and “Keeping Warm”).
As soon as the water has reached the desired temperature, immerse the tea strainer in the boiling water.
After the required infusion time, pull the tea strainer up again using the knob.
Remove the kettle from the base station (4) and pour the tea into a tea cup or a tea glass.
Then place the kettle back on the base station – this keeps the tea hot.

Herbal Tea

Herbal tea and other types of tea such as fruit, rooibos and spiced teas are made in the same way as black tea (see the “Tips For Making Tea” chapter | “Black Tea”). Depending on the variety, the different blends require an infusion time of approx. 5 – 10 minutes. In rare cases, herbal tea blends may contain germs (such as salmonella) which are killed off by being heated. Herbal tea must therefore always be infused using boiling water. This is the only way to obtain a safe product to consume! Herbal tea mixtures also contain spores which are not killed off by boiling water. They can germinate in warm water. For this reason, infused herbal tea must not be left standing for several hours.

Cleaning and Care

NOTICES

Descale the device regularly.
Do not use any toxic, corrosive or abrasive cleaning agents or scouring sponges to clean the device. These may damage the surface.

Empty the device completely.
Wipe down the kettle (3) and the base station (4) with a damp cloth. If necessary, use a little mild detergent to remove more intense soiling.
If tea has been prepared in the kettle, rinse it out thoroughly with clear water.
- PLEASE NOTE: When you do this, do not immerse the base of the kettle in water!
Take out the small limescale fi lter inside the kettle (Picture C) and clean it.
Clean the lid (1) and if necessary the tea strainer with warm water and mild detergent.
Allow all parts to dry well.
Check the connecting cable regularly for any damage.

Over time tea residues may stain the kettle. It should therefore be thoroughly cleaned regularly (at least every 4 weeks). We recommend that you do this using BEEM Premium Cleaning Tablets. They will remove the residues quickly and easily. In addition, the cleaning tablets are gentle on the material and guarantee food-safe and environmentally friendly cleaning – ensuring an authentic tea flavour. Descaling

Limescale deposits have an adverse effect not only on the quality of the tea and the water, but they also cause power losses and shorten the lifespan of the device. The thicker a limescale layer is, the more diffi cult it is to remove. We therefore recommend regularly removing limescale deposits with a descaling agent in accordance with the water quality in your area and how often the device is used (approx. every 2 – 6 weeks). The first indications that descaling is required are a large amount of steam being produced and slower boiling of the water. Limescale deposits on the bottom of the kettle can cause the device to switch off prematurely. For descaling we recommend the BEEM Premium Descaler Concentrate. Descaling with the BEEM Premium Descaler Concentrate

Fill the kettle (3) up to the MAX marking with a concentrate/water solution of no more than 1:20 (one part concentrate to 20 parts water).
Press the temperature button 100°C (13) and the On / Off button (9) to switch on the device. The control lamps in both buttons light up. The solution starts boiling.
As soon as the solution has boiled, the device switches off. Allow the solution to take effect for a little while.
Pour away the solution.
To rinse the kettle, boil up clear water twice and pour this water away. The device is now descaled and ready to be used again.

Storage

Disconnect the device from the mains power when it is not going to be used for a prolonged period.
Clean the device again if necessary (see the “Cleaning and Care” chapter) and let it dry completely.
Store the device and all accessories in a dry, clean, frost-free place that is protected from direct sunlight and cannot be accessed by children or animals.

Troubleshooting

If the device does not work properly, check whether you are able to rectify the problem yourself. If the problem cannot be solved with the steps that are listed, contact our customer service department.

Keep the original packaging during the warranty period of the device so that the device can be properly packaged up if it needs to be returned. The warranty claim will lapse if any damage is caused during transport.
