Earwax Irrigation Kit
The WaxBgone Earwax Irrigation Kit comes with everything you need to safely, quickly, and effectively remove earwax in the comfort of your home
PLEASE READ INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING
WARNINGS: ONLY USE warm tap water for irrigation. Using COLD or HOT water may cause temporary dizziness. Using saline or sterile water is not necessary. DO NOT USE IF you have or suspect a perforated eardrum, had ear surgery, an ear infection or have had an ear tube recently inserted in your eardrum, please consult your ENT doctor. Ear irrigation SHOULD NOT HURT. Pressure and loud sounds during irrigation are normal but if you feel pain, STOP and consult a physician.
PRETREATMENT NOTES:
- 75% of the time ear wax softening drops are NOT required for successful irrigation.
- Soft earwax can usually be removed with one spray bottle or less
- Hard earwax may require multiple water refills, so don’t get discouraged
- Depending on the level of blockage, a softening agent can improve success and speed the process. (directions for making your own softening agent at the end)
- In severe cases 1-2 more applications of the softening agent or a visit to your ENT Doctor may be required.
ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS:
- Push Angled Wand firmly into top of Electronic Irrigator until it clicks. Press tip eject button to remove.
- Firmly press orange SoftSpray® Irrigation Tip into the end of the angled wand. (see Visual A)
- Please read cordless irrigator instructions for more detailed use instructions.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:
-
Before irrigation, use otoscope to examine ear canal to determine if obstructing earwax is indeed the problem. Use again after irrigation to ensure all earwax has been removed. (see back of pamphlet for more information)
-
Fill the water reservoir with warm tap water (98 degrees). Do not use cold or hot water, this may cause temporary dizziness.
-
Prime Electronic Irrigator by pressing the power button and discharging into the sink.
-
Gently place SoftSpray Tip into ear canal.
• With Assistant – Sit and place ear basin snugly under ear while second person performs irrigation. (see Visual B) • Self-irrigation – Lean over sink with ear facing down, or use in the shower, no ear basin required. (see Visual C) HELPFUL TIPS:
• Insert tip as far into ear canal as comfortable. No need to worry about over-insertion due to flared-end design.
• To assist irrigation, pull outer ear upward and back to straighten soft portion of ear canal. (see Visual D) -
Ensure Electronic Irrigator is on Pressure Level 1 and begin spraying water into ear canal (Refilling water may be necessary so don’t get discouraged).
HELPFUL TIPS:
• If pressure level 1 is comfortable, increase to level 2+ (by pressing Mode Button) to increase flow rate which will improve and speed irrigation process. -
When finished, dry ear canal to prevent bacterial and fungal infection. Use dropper bottle (included) and mix equal parts white vinegar and 70% Isopropyl alcohol. Alcohol acts as drying agent and vinegar restores normal acidic pH of ear canal. (see Visual E)
Requires 2 AAA Batteries – NOT INCLUDED
A penlight otoscope with 5 disposable specula are included in this kit to
allow you to examine the ear canal before and after irrigation.
USING THE OTOSCOPE
- Turn otoscope on and gently insert the speculum into the ear canal. Point the speculum upward and forward in the ear canal while pulling the outer ear upward and back for the best view of the ear canal. This may take practice, so be patient.
- If the light beam appears out of focus, slowly twist the head of the otoscope until the light is the brightest.
- When replacing the speculum, you may encounter a tight fit, BUT they do fit.
- The specula can be cleaned with soap and water and reused.
BONUS: HOMEMADE EARWAX SOFTENING AGENT
Regardless of the solution you choose, allow the mixture to sit in the ear canal for 15 minutes, then allow it to drain from the ear and begin the irrigation procedure as outlined in the instruction manual.
-
Water or Saline Solution
The simplest and least expensive home remedy for an ear wax softening agent is a saline solution. Mix 1 teaspoon of table salt with 1/2 cup of warm tap water (NOT cold or hot) and mix until salt is completely dissolved -
Baby Oil / Olive Oil / Almond Oil
Certain oils can be safely used as ear drops to soften impacted ear wax and ease it’s expulsion out of the ear canal. Use any of these oils at full strength. -
Hydrogen Peroxide 3% Solution
The aqueous base and foaming action of the peroxide is what makes it an effective ear wax removal solution. Mix equal parts Hydrogen Peroxide and warm water (NOT cold or hot) and instill this solution into the ear canal. -
Sodium Bicarbonate
Because of its alkaline properties, it helps to dissolve the acidic earwax. Sodium bicarbonate is the same as the baking soda you buy in the grocery store. Mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda with 1 cup of warm water (NOT cold or hot).
