SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

General

  • Before you start mounting the device please read the operating instructions carefully.
  • The installation shall be performed by qualified personnel.
  • Packaging material is not a chalder’s toy. Keep it away from children!
  • Do not open the device. It does not contain parts you have to maintain.

Ambient conditions
The standards used to assess the product specify limit values for use in the living area, business area and in small enterprises; the product has been intended for use in the following operating environments:

  • Residential buildings/living areas such as houses, flats, rooms, etc. selling areas such as shops, wholesale markets, etc.
  • Premises of small enterprises such as workshops, service centers, etc.
  • All areas of application characterize themselves by a connection to the public low voltage mains.

APPROPRIATE USE
The HFC ALARM GX-K1 with internal sensor or GX-K2 with external sensor is a warning device for cooling and refrigerants of the HFCs group and already warns at concentrations that are far below a life-threatening value.
This monitoring system is therefore set very sensitively according to its purpose. The warning signal is acoustic and visual. The device is suitable for normal household use and must not be used in areas where there is a risk of explosion. The warning device warns of the toxic fumes that could escape from leaking cooling and refrigeration systems and is primarily used to protect people who should not inhale these fumes.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
The GAS ALARM GX-K1 / GX-K2 may only be installed in dry interior rooms and, depending on the type of refrigerant, must be placed correctly to ensure that the warning device functions correctly.
It is essential to observe the prescribed position of the alarm unit! For your own safety and reassurance, please obtain information from your supplier regarding their gas type and its properties!

Placement of the warning device/sensor for refrigerants whose vapors are lighter than air: Plug the alarm into an overhead outlet or mount the sensor at a height of 15-30 cm from the ceiling, but no more than 4 m from the air conditioner.
Note: The alarm device/sensor must be installed above the highest door or window opening in the room. For example, methane is lighter than air and therefore rises.
Placement of the warning device/sensor for refrigerants whose vapors are heavier than air: Plug the alarm into a socket below or mount the sensor at a height of 15-30 cm from the floor, but no more than 4 m from the air conditioner. For example, R-290/ propane is heavier than air and will sink to the bottom. It spreads there like water and collects in depressions.

The alarm unit may not be used in the following positions:

  • Places that could prevent the alarm from being triggered in the event of a gas leak (e.g. behind curtains or in cupboards, unless the air conditioning unit is in the same cupboard)
  • directly above hearths or points of combustion or over a wash basin or sink
  • next to a door, windows, ventilator, fan, air conditioning unit etc.
  • in areas where dust or dirt can prevent the sensor from working
  • in areas at risk of explosion.

INSTALLATION
The GAS ALARM GX-K1 / -K2 is simply plugged into a 230V / 50Hz socket. The LED (Function) indicator lights up once in each color, a short alarm tone can be heard. The sensor of the monitoring system needs a warm-up time of 3-5 minutes to achieve functionality, during that time the green LED flashes. The LED (Operate) then lights up green and the gas warning device is ready for operation.
ATTENTION: Due to different transport conditions (long storage/humidity) an alarm can be triggered immediately after the heating-up time (LED flashes red). Briefly disconnect the device from the mains and start the heating time again. This process may have to be repeated up to three times.
TEST button
In the event of an alarm, the alarm tone is muted with the TEST button, the red LED continues to flash until no more gas is detected. In monitoring mode, use the TEST button to test the function of the LEDs and the acoustic alarm device. The sensor cannot be tested with it.
FAILURE
If a fault is detected, the LED (error) flashes yellow and the acoustic alarm sounds every 30 seconds. Unplug the device and plug it in again, with the GX-K2 please check the sensor cable and the plug on the sensor. Get in contact with Elektrotechnik Schabus.
ALARM
Only when a gas or vapor concentration corresponding to the sensitivity is detected does the pre-alarm start with a flashing red LED (alarm).
If the concentration continues to rise, the main alarm starts with the acoustic alarm. The acoustics can be acknowledged with the TEST button.
WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF ALARM (or if you smell gas)

  • Do not unplug the alarm unit!
  • Do not switch on any other electrical devices or appliances
  • Do not ignite any open flame, turn off any open flame already lit
  • Immediately open windows and doors and thoroughly ventilate the area or house
  • Turn off the main gas feed and ensure that the cause of the gas escape is eliminated
  • In the event of persistent/repeated alarm, contact your energy supply expert/adviser or the fire service.

FALSE ALARM
The system‘s sensitive sensor also responds to many other gaseous media. The use of aerosols (propellant in sprays for hair, disinfection, etc.), but also strong tobacco smoke (e.g. smoking cards), cooking fumes and stored paint cans can lead to false alarms. You can always recognize natural gas and bottled gas by their distinct smell.

FUNCTIONAL TEST
A simple function test of the warning device is possible with the gas from a standard lighter. A burst of gas (approx. 30 s) to the lower ventilation slots of the housing or sensor without igniting the lighter triggers an alarm and the LED (alarm) flashes red. Briefly disconnect the device from the mains and restart the heating-up time.
For your own safety and reassurance, we recommend that you carry out this test every month! Regularly clean the sensor by blowing off any dust.
The date (month/year) is at the sensor for the next sensor examination. Please send the GA ALARM to us for the work examination.
