Operation and use

  1. Prior first usage – soak your pH meter in tap water for 12 hours.
  2. Remove the protective cover.
  3. Gently clean the electrode with distilled water and dry it off.
  4. Press the On/off button to start the meter.
  5. Insert the meter upright into the solution up to the edge and stir gently. Wait a few seconds for the correct value to appear on the display.
  6. Press the C/F button to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
  7. Rinse the electrode with water after use and press the On/off button to turn off the meter.
We recommend storing the meter in an upright position with KCI storage solution in the protective cover.

Calibrating the pH meter

  1. Press the On/off button to start the meter.
  2. Gently clean the electrode with distilled water and dry it off.
  3. Insert the meter in an upright position in pH buffer solution pH 7.01 (make sure this is 25 oC) and stir gently.
  4. Wait until the value on the display is stable.
  5. Press and hold the CAL button for 5 seconds. Then release the button. The value pH 7.0 will now blink on the display. As soon as the meter switches back to the standard mode, calibration is complete.
  6. Gently clean the electrode with distilled water and dry it off.
  7. Repeat the process with pH 4.01 buffer solution.
  8. Gently clean the meter before storing it.

When is calibration required?

  • If the electrode has been replaced.
  • If the meter was last calibrated over a month ago.
  • If the meter is used on a regular basis.
  • If high precision is needed.

Replacing the electrode

  1. Properly unscrew the sealing ring in the lower part of the meter.
  2. Remove the defected/old electrode by gently pulling it.
  3. Carefully place the new electrode with the recess in the correct position so that the connectors properly connect and do not damage the meter or electrode.
  4. Check that the rubber seal is properly placed.
  5. Tightly tighten the sealing ring.
  6. Calibrate the meter as described in this manual.
  7. The meter is now ready for use.

Warning

  • Always make sure that there are no air bubbles present in the solution during calibration. This could affect the measurements.
  • Make sure the calibration solution is 25°C when calibrating the meter. Failure to do so may affect the result of the calibration.
  • Never store the electrode in distilled water.
  • DO NOT immerse the electrode in oil, proteins or suspended solids that leave a layer on the glass bulb.
  • DO NOT soak or rinse in RO (Reverse Osmosis), distilled or de-ionised water. Pure water alters the chemistry of the reference liquid so that it no longer works.
  • DO NOT place a cold electrode in hot liquid (or vice versa). Sudden changes in temperature may break the glass and permanently damage the pen. Broken glass is not covered by the warranty.
  • Make sure not to bump the glass electrode into anything, because this might break the glass bulb on the outside of the internal glass tube Broken glass is not covered by the warranty.
  • Avoid placing the meter near ballasts or any other electrical appliances. Force fields may affect the readings.
  • If during calibration the pH value keeps rising or dropping slowly and does not stabilise, please replace the batteries and calibrate the meter. Bad batteries or low power levels may influence the measurement results.

Replacing the batteries
If the battery indicator at the top right of the display is activated, or if the display dims, please replace the batteries. To do so, unscrew the top and replace the 3 x 1.5 Volt AG-13 button cell batteries.

Warranty

These instruments are warranted from all defects in material and manufacturing for a period of one year from the date of purchase. If during this period any parts need reparation or replacement and the damage is not due to incorrect operation by the user, please send the parts to the dealer or to us and the repair will be free of charge. Please refer to the exclusion warning.
