INTERMOTIVE Hawkeye Plus and Help Gard Plus Reverse Assistance System
Guide to Adjusting System Sensitivity
-
Both HawkEye Plus & HELP GARD Plus Reverse
Assistance Systems are bench tested & preset at InterMotive’s facility prior to shipping. The sensors on the test bench are mounted 22.5” from the ground. -
If it is necessary for you to adjust the sensitivity, please follow the instructions exactly as written. This slide presentation (with the video & audio available online) is designed to assist you with making the sensitivity adjustments.
-
Locate & read the “Total Instructions” for your particular reverse assistance system. (These can also be found online on our website.)
-
Open the control module cover using a small screwdriver.
-
Use a cart or other mobile object with a piece of ¾” plywood (18”x24”) on the side facing the sensors (Fig. 1). A dense material is required to reflect the ultra sonic waves.
-
Position the cart in the direct path of a sensor at the distance of five (5’) feet.
-
Set the park brake, block the wheels & place the transmission in reverse. The display panel should now have a blank reading.
-
Slowly turn the potentiometer counter-clockwise until the display gives a numerical reading of the distance of the cart & has a consistent audible sound.
-
Reset the module by placing the vehicle in park or by unplugging the module power connector. Removing the power from the module allows the module to recognize the new sensitivity adjustment.
-
Place vehicle in reverse or reinstall the module power connector. Move the cart away from the bus & note the display readings. Move the cart forward, measure the cart distance & compare the distance with the display reading.
-
Adjust the sensitivity further if needed. Turning the potentiometer clockwise reduces the sensitivity & turning the potentiometer counter-clockwise
increases sensitivity. Note: the potentiometer adjustment range is from 0 to 80 degrees (see Figure 3). -
Repeat post-installation testing. If necessary, read adjust & retest.
-
Replace cover on the back of the control module.
