Installation Guide

Installation Instructions

RELN Septic Tanks and Holding Tanks must be installed by a licensed plumber, in accordance with instructions below and local authority requirements.
RELN Septic Tanks and Holding Tanks are supplied with inlet and outlet holes drilled to the meet the specifications of the installation location.

SITE SELECTION

1. Septic tanks must be installed away from building foundations and traffic areas, (both vehicular and pedestrian)
2. They must be away, or be fenced off, from animal stock pastures and areas.

EXCAVATION

1. Excavate the site ready to install the tank in the ground as per the building code and local authority requirements.

2. Ensure there is adequate pipe fall to the inlet of the tank and from the tank outlet to the transpiration bed or holding tank.

3. Refer to the tank dimensions diagrams for correct excavation levels:
   • 3200L Tanks need approx. 2.0m deep excavation (Fig 1) • 4000L/3200L Tank complete with Riser need approx. 2.4m deep excavation (Fig 2) (the exact depth will vary due to land fall and depth of bedding sand)

4. Do not bury the tank lid. Manhole cover and inspection covers must be finished above normal ground level to allow ongoing tank inspection and maintenance.

5. Prepare a level 50mm bed of compacted sand or soft compactable fill in the excavation site, ensuring it is free of large and/or sharp objects. This will allow you to level the tank base.

6. Carefully lower the tank base into the excavation site – do not allow it to drop.

7. Align the inlet and outlet with pipe trenches.

8. Ensure the tank base is level with the lid off.

TANK BASE ASSEMBLY – BAFFLE

1. If a baffle is required (check your State/local regulations), insert the baffle as follows.
   • Position the baffle in the location lugs in the base of the tank
   • For tank bases with a factory installed reinforced structural brace ring:
   – Lower the baffle into the centre of the tank
   – From inside the tank tilt the baffle so the bottom of the baffle is positioned in the retaining pins in the base of the tank
   – Push the baffle into a vertical position
   – Ensure the baffle is seated on the reinforced structural brace ring and firmly located in the base pins.

2. Drill and fix the baffle in the marked position using supplied two (2) supplied stainless steel bolts, nuts and washers provided.

3. For 4000L Tanks, clip the additional baffle extension on top of the main baffle and screw it into place where indicated using two (2) stainless steel bolts, nuts and washers supplied. (Fig 3)

Tank Base Assembly – Inlet/Outlet Junctions

1. On the inlet side of the tank base, fit the Inlet T-Junction. Apply silicone sealer to the flange of the T-Junction and secure with four (4) supplied stainless steel self-tapping screws. (Fig 4 – shown for 3200L)
2. On the outlet side of the tank base, fit the Outlet T-Junction. Apply silicone sealer to the flange of the T-Junction and secure with four (4)supplied stainless steel self-tapping screws. (Fig 5 – shown for 4000L)

PIPE CONNECTION

1. Connect 100mm PVC sewer pipe into the Inlet T-Junction. Glue the inlet pipe to the T-Junction with PVC plumber’s glue.
2. Connect 100mm PVC sewer pipe into the Outlet T-Junction. Glue the outlet pipe to the T-Junction with PVC plumber’s glue.

TANK ANCHORING

1. Tie anchoring ropes (8) to the pre-drilled lugs in the rim of the tank. Leave the looped end to hang free.
2. Place four durable anchoring beams (not included) through the looped ends of the ropes.
3. Anchor beams can be made from 100mm PVC sewer pipe (plumber to supply) and should be two metres long and positioned to exceed the tank’s extremities. (Fig 6 &7)

RELN 3200L Deep Invert Septic/Holding Tanks

When more fall is required from the exit point of the sewer line from the house to the septic tank:

1. A riser can be used on 3200L septic tanks and holding tanks.
2. A deep invert Septic Tank or Holding Tank should be used.
3. This tank must be ordered complete with the riser and will be supplied with a factory installed reinforced structural brace ring (Fig 8).
4. The riser ring must be assembled onto the tank base by the plumber installing the septic tank.
5. Only one riser ring can be used on Deep Invert Septic Tanks and Deep Invert Holding Tanks.
6. Riser rings must not be assembled to tank bases that do not have a factory fitted reinforced structural brace ring.

ASSEMBLING THE RISER RING ON DEEP INVERT SEPTIC/HOLDING TANKS

1. Seal the riser ring to the tank with the provided black mastic sealing strip
2. Cut four (4) strips 390mm long for the vertical sealing faces of the riser ring.
3. Apply the sealing strips to the vertical face, ensuring they cover the full length of the vertical faces to provide a seal between each riser segment face. Remove the paper strip.
4. Ensure the seal protrudes at the bottom edge of the ring by 3mm.
5. Bolt each riser segment panel together with the 12 supplied M8x40 stainless steel bolts, washers and nuts. Use a washer on each side of the bolt and securely tighten the bolts. This completes the assembly of the ring segments.
6. On the tank base, roll the remaining sealing strip into the channel lip rim of the tank base, ensuring even coverage. Remove the paper strip.
7. Mould the ends of the sealing strip together to create a single complete circular seal.
8. Identify the riser segment panel with the location lug. (Fig 9)
9. This riser segment and lug is positioned directly above the inlet pipe and aligns with the lug in the tank base (Fig 10) and the inlet inspection point in the lid.
10. Place and align the assembled riser ring on top of the tank base.
11. Ensure the riser ring dowel hole is correctly positioned on to the tank base location dowel. (Fig 11)
12. With an M8 bit, drill and fix the riser ring in position with 16 provided M8x50 stainless steel bolts, washers and nuts. Use a washer on each side of the bolts and securely tighten the bolts. Do not use self- tapping screws!

4000L Septic/Holding Tanks
4000L Septic Tanks and Holding Tanks are supplied with a fully assembled base, including the factory installed and sealed reinforced structural brace ring and additional base segments. (T-Junctions and the baffle must be installed by your plumber).
LID INSTALLATION

1. Use supplied M6 bolts to assemble the lid to the assembled tank base (do not use self-tapping screws).

2. Apply a sealing bead of silicone in the top lip of the assembled tank base.

3. Place the lid onto the assembled tank base, aligning the dowel pin in the tank base assembly (Fig 9) with the corresponding dowel hole in the lid.
   This aligns the inspection covers above the inlet and outlet pipes.

4. Drill and fix the lid in position with the supplied eight (8) M6 x 30 stainless steel bolts, washers and nuts.

5. Apply a sealing bead of silicone to the lid recess for the manhole cover.

6. Secure the manhole cover in position with the six (6) stainless steel self-tapping screws provided.

7. Apply a sealing bead of silicone to the lid and secure the two inspection covers.

DISCHARGE PIPE – HOLDING TANK ONLY

1. The discharge pipe is to be installed by a plumber (Fig 13).
2. Ensure the discharge pipe hole does not cut through the lid strengthening ribs. (Fig 14)
3. Fasten the discharge pipe to the lid using 316 stainless steel screws.
4. Seal the discharge pipe to the lid with silicone.
5. The maximum length of the discharge pipe must be half of the tank depth (holding tanks must only be pumped out half way).
6. Discharge pipe connections must be positioned for easy access by pump-out vehicles.

COMPLETION

1. Secure the manhole cover then fill the tank with water to the outlet level.
2. After completely filling the tank with water, backfill around the tank with clean fill and thoroughly compact the fill, ensuring it has the same density as the surrounding ground. This is essential to secure the anchors.
3. Compaction is important – ensure there are no large or sharp objects in the backfill material.
4. Ensure surface water run-off is directed away from the pipe trenches and tank installation.

At RELN we are committed to designing and manufacturing products to the highest quality standards and providing our customers with exceptional support and service.
Should you experience any defects due to manufacturing faults, your RELN product(s) are covered by warranty as described below.
Warranty
Your RELN Septic/ Holding Tank is manufactured to meet the requirements of AS/NZS1546.1. It is guaranteed to be free from defects in workmanship and parts for a period of 15 years from the date of purchase.
Defects that occur within this warranty period, under normal use and care, will be repaired, replaced or refunded at our discretion. The benefits conferred by this warranty are in addition to all rights and remedies specified within the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 and similar State and Territory laws. You are entitled to a product replacement or refund in the event of a major product failure and for compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.
Exclusions
RELN Septic Tanks/ Holding Tanks/ Pump Wells must be installed by a qualified licensed plumber in accordance with installation instructions and State and local regulation requirements.
This warranty is limited to defects in workmanship or parts. It does not cover:

1. Normal wear and tear of the products or parts.
2. Any defects caused by an accident, transportation, misuse, abuse, improper installation or operation, lack of reasonable care, unauthorised modification, loss of parts, tampering or attempted repair by a person not authorised by RELN.
3. Any product that has not been installed, operated or maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s installation instructions provided with the product.
4. Any product, system or component that is supplied in addition to the RELN Septic/ Holding Tank/ Pump Well.
5. Any product that has been used for purposes other than domestic use.
6. The cost of transportation of the product from customer to distributor or from distributor to the customer.

Proof of Purchase
This warranty is valid for the original purchased item and is not transferable. Please keep your purchase docket, tax invoice or receipt as the best proof of your purchase made.
