The role of light
By means of the light/dark cycle, the human brain synchronizes functions such
as mood, appetite, digestion, sleep, libido, etc. These circadian rhythms,
which oscillate over 24 hours, constitute our biological clock.
Melatonin is what is commonly referred to as the “sleep hormone”.
The brain secretes it at nightfall, which then induces sleep. Conversely, at
daybreak, in the presence of light, the brain stops the secretion of
melatonin, enabling us to get up easily, and full of energy.
In addition to its regulating effect on our biological clock, light
significantly affects mood, alertness, and physical and intellectual
performance, by improving them.
Light therapy
In some situations, the biological clock is no longer in sync with external
environments. The circadian rhythms are, therefore, “desynchronized”. This is
particularly the case in winter when there is an insufficient amount of light,
at which point some people develop winter blues. This is also something that
can be seen in people who tend to go to sleep too early or too late.
Jet lag is another type of disruption to the biological clock, as well as
fragmented work disorders (which affect more than 10% of workers in Europe)
which are now recognized as real pathologies. All these disorders can be
reduced or even eliminated by the correct use of light and darkness. When
light cannot be found in natural form, light therapy is the solution that
offers the most benefits with the least side effects.
Its applications
- Winter Blues
- Fatigue – low energy
- Problems with sleep rhythms
- Work with a fragmented schedule
This product is not approved as a medical device under 93/42/CEE norms.

Use
When can I use Luminette® Drive?
-
To combat seasonal blues
Lacking energy and motivation? Have difficulty getting up in the morning? Feel the need to hibernate? Snack more? Notice a decrease in your libido? You are probably experiencing the winter blues. This condition is the result of a reduction in brightness in autumn and winter. We recommend a light therapy session as soon as possible after waking up. -
To combat fatigue and low energy
The Luminette® Drive reproduces the beneficial effects of the sun and stimulates specific receptors in the eyes that trigger the body’s energizing response to light. This helps combat energy loss, makes you feel more fit, active, and alert, it can also improve your mood. We recommend a light therapy session as soon as possible after waking up. -
To combat sleep rhythm disorders
Some sleep disorders are caused by an advance or delay in the biological clock. In these cases, light therapy can provide a solution.-
A delay in the biological clock
Have a tendency to fall asleep too late and have difficulty getting up in the morning? We recommend you have a light therapy session as soon as possible after waking up. -
An advance in the biological clock
Have trouble staying awake in the evening and wake up too early? We recommend that you have a light therapy session in the late afternoon or early evening, two to three hours before the time you want to go to bed.
-
-
To optimize fragmented work
If you work at night for more than three consecutive days and have difficulty staying awake at work and/or on the way home, we recommend you have a light therapy session just before starting work and, in case of drowsiness, a second session during your work break.
As a precaution, we advise you to contact your occupational physician.
