The Sescom SES-DIPRO is a studio-quality, passive direct box that’s designed to connect high-impedance or line-level unbalanced signals to low-impedance, microphone-level balanced inputs. Built with high-fidelity circuitry in a rugged, extruded-aluminum case, the SES-DIPRO is perfect for both studio and stage applications.

The unit is equipped with a 3-position attenuation switch (-20 dB, -40 dB, -60 dB) to help ensure that overly hot signals won’t overload the input. A ground lift switch and a phase-select switch are also included on the unit. The Loop Out jack is a pass-through for connecting your instrument to an amplifier for localized monitoring.

Product Description

  1. The SES-DIPRO gives you unprecedented flexibility in injecting signals into your microphone preamplifier with a very basic setup. Plug the output of your instrument (electric guitar, bass, keyboard, etc.) into the IN jack on the SES-DIPRO, connect an XLR cable to the DIPRO’s OUT jack, and plug the other end of this cable into the input of your microphone preamplifier (a standalone unit, a mic input on your mixing board, or even the mic input on your audio interface). The DIPRO IN jack can accept XLR, ¼” balanced TRS and ¼” unbalanced TS cables
  2. The ATT (attenuation) switch knocks your signal down by 20, 40 or 60db. This lets you plug in a traditional passive instrument (electric guitar or bass) or, unlike other DI boxes, a balanced or unbalanced line level output from your mixing board, a piece of rack equipment, or your audio interface itself. Simply adjust the ATT switch to the setting that works best with your microphone preamplifier. Aim for a level that isn’t too low or too hot, but squarely in the “green” of your VU meter. Fine tune your gain at the mic preamp.
  3. The LOOP OUT jack allows you to connect your instrument to an amplifier or other equipment, unaffected, while still pulling a signal into your mic preamp through the SES-DIPRO. In the scenario above, connect an unbalanced cable between the LOOP OUT jack and your amplifier to monitor your instrument. This jack can also send a balanced signal if you are plugging a balanced signal into the IN jack.
  4. If you receive excessive hum or buzz when connected to your microphone preamplifier, try flipping the GROUND LIFT switch on the DIPRO. This option is most effective when running active, electronic equipment (rack units, line out from an amp or output from a powered pedal) into the DIPRO. This switch is not typically needed if you are using a passive electric guitar or bass.
  5. If you find your DIPRO signal is negatively interfering with another signal (maybe you have a mic on your amp and you are mixing the two signals together) try throwing the PHASE switch. This switch reverses the positive and negative polarity of your DIPRO signal and can fix phase interference.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

  1. To prevent fire or shock hazard, do not expose this equipment to high humidity and/or dust. Do not use in an unprotected outdoor installation nor any area classified as overly damp or wet.
  2. The temperature for installation should be kept between 32°F to 140°F (0°C to 60°C). Avoid direct sunlight exposure or extreme changes of temperature over a short period of time.
  3. Do not disassemble the unit as this voids the warranty.
  4. Do not drop the unit and avoid heavy impact.
  5. This unit should not be permanently installed unless proper ventilation is provided. Any enclosure openings must not be blocked or covered as they protect the unit from overheating.
  6. Before cleaning, turn off the power and unplug the unit from all connections. Use a damp cloth. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.
  7. Do not overload outlets and extension cords as this may result in a risk of fire or electric shock.
  8. Enclosure entry is dangerous. Never push objects of any kind, including liquids, into this unit through openings as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short-out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock.
  9. Do not attempt to open or service this unit yourself as opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage and other hazards.
  10. There are no user-serviceable parts inside the unit. If the unit  requires service contact your authorized dealer,or an authorized repair service company.
