GENERAL INFORMATION

Intended use

This product has been designed for permanent installation on mobile homes or camper trailers or motor vehicles of a similar type with a permissible maximum speed of 175 km/h.

Furthermore possible is the usage of watercraft.

Power to the system must be supplied by a standard vehicle electrical system with a rated voltage of 12/24 V DC. When installed in caravans, no unregulated switching power supply can be used for the power supply. A switching power supply (so-called plug-in power supply) with a fixed output rated voltage in the range of 12V DC up to 24V DC and a current rating of 1A can be used.

The product serves as an LTE router or WLAN router to provide a private network with a connection to the Internet (existing LTE / WLAN access is required).
Using the equipment for any other than its intended purpose is not permissible. When the system is connected to the onboard electric system, a suitable fuse type. 3A must be provided for it in the onboard circuit. The manufacturer accepts no liability for direct or indirect damages or for consequential damages to the system itself, to battery systems, motor vehicles or other equipment or goods resulting from installation or wiring errors.

Please also observe the following instructions from the manufacturer:

  • The system must only be installed on appropriate vehicle roofs which are sufficiently strong and inherently stable. Observe all relevant and approved guidelines of the automotive industry.
  • The product does not require any regular maintenance. Opening housings and enclosures is not permissible. Inspection and maintenance may only be performed by a qualified professional.
  • Do not wash your mobile home or camper trailer with the mounted Oyster®Connect system in a single-bay or drive-through car wash, and do not use a high-pressure cleaner.
  • Any modification of the overall system by removing individual components or adding other components is not permissible. The insertion of a SIM card (not included in the supply) is not affected by this. See chapter 2.2 / p.19 of these instructions!
  • The Oyster® Connect system must be installed by a specialist workshop or qualified professional. If you encounter any problems, or if you are unsure about anything, please contact the manufacturer or an authorised service partner.
Safety precautions

Read the operating manual and installation instructions carefully before installing the system. These instructions describe the functions of the Oyster® Connect Systems and how to operate it. Correct and safe operation of the system can only be ensured if both the installation instructions and the operating instructions are observed. Your Oyster® Connect is an intelligent wireless modem and data router system for access to existing cellular or WLAN networks. The availability of appropriate public networks and access authorization to the respective network (e.g. activated, unlocked SIM card) is mandatory.

Please also note that you must be within range of such a network. Only your chosen service provider can tell you the network coverage of cellular networks.

Instruction for installation:
When installing, follow the instructions regarding the processing and curing times of the adhesive sealing compound (not included in the supply) provided by the compound’s manufacturer before moving the vehicle! If these times cannot be observed for any reason, the mounting plate must be additionally secured with screws.
Depending on how your vehicle roof is made, it could be required to additionally secure the mounting plate using the supplied screws.ten-Haaft-

SIM card
To insert the SIM card, the Outdoor Unit must be removed from the mounting plate. Therefor you have to loosen the 4 screws (see illustration). After inserting the SIM card, the Outdoor Unit has to be fixed to the mounting plate using the four screws.

Power Supply

A sufficient power supply of the system must be ensured

  • The system must be connected to the 12/24-V onboard electric system.
    • The voltage must be at least 9 V
    • The voltage must never exceed 32 V
    • The needed amperage is <1A
  • The minimum cross-section of the wires connecting the satellite system to the power supply is 0,75 mm².
  • When connecting to the onboard voltage via existing lines, make sure that large consumers or strong sources of interference are not connected to the same lines.

The power line must be protected on the battery side by a fuse rated with 3 Amps.

Power supply in camper trailers
In camper trailers, a reliable or battery-supported 12-V power supply is often not available. In this case, the system must be supplied with power from the mains grid via a suitable 220 V/12 V power converter.

Do not use any battery chargers, simple transformers or unregulated power converters. Only electronically regulated fixed-voltage converters with a rated voltage of 12V to 24V and a minimum continuous power output of 1 Amp must be used.

Mobile Operation
Your Oyster® Connect can be operated while driving. Therefor we recommend switching the router to LTE mode. Please note that in some vehicles the voltage in the habitation area can be switched off completely while driving. In this case the Oyster® Connect is also out of order.

Please do clarify this with your installer!
