Product Usage Instructions
Opening the Safe
To open the safe, enter the 4-digit user code using the keypad.
The safe will unlock once the correct code is entered.
Closing and Locking the Safe
To close and lock the safe, simply close the door securely. The
safe will automatically lock itself.
Changing and Testing the User Code
1. Press the “Change User Code” button on the safe keypad.
2. Enter the master code followed by a new 4-digit user
code.
3. Test the new user code to ensure it works properly.

1. Access the programming menu on the safe keypad.
2. Enter the factory default master code provided.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions to set a new master
code.

About the lock
This lock requires a 4 digit code to open the lock. The safe also comes with
an emergency override key. The key hole is located next to the keypad. The
lock should also have a master code programmed in case the emergency key is
missing. The master code can only open the lock.
How to open the safe
· Enter a valid 4 digit user code (the factory default user code is *1234″) ·
The screen will display `OPEN’ · Open the safe door
How to close and lock the safe
· Ensure that nothing is in the way of the locking bolts · Close the safe door
fully · Enter your 4 digit code i.e. [1][2][3][4] · Press the [LOCK] key · The
screen will display [CLOSED] How to change and test the user code
· Every time the safe is open the code can be changed. · With the safe door
open enter your new 4 digit code. · Press the [LOCK] key · The screen will
display [CLOSED] · Now enter your 4 digit code again.

· The screen will display OPEN’ and the locking bolts will retract. · Now close the safe door and enter your 4 digit code. · Press the [LOCK] key. · The screen will display [CLOSED] · The safe should be left with the door open and unlocked before new guests use it, so they can set their own code. After 4 incorrect entries, a penalty time of 15 minutes (factory default)
or 30 minutes (if you have chosen this setup) will begin. · The screen will
display HOLD 5′ or

Pressing any key will show how long is remaining · When the penalty time is
over, try again
How to change the master code
All hotel safes are supplied with the same factory default master code. For
security reasons it is important that you change the master code on all of
your safes
· Open the safe door with a valid user or master code · Press the [CLEAR] key
twice, the screen will display PROG’ · Enter the current master code (the factory default is 000000′) · The screen will display
NEU’ · Enter a new
6-digit code for your master code;
the screen will display AGAIN’ · Re-enter the new 6-digit code followed by the
[LOCK] key to confirm · The screen will display `DONE’
NOTE: Do not change your master code to 751019
Setup options
You can customise certain settings of your hotel safe through a programming
menu. Read through the following options to see how you want your safe to
function, then follow the programming instructions.
Digit 1 – Code and beep settings
0 = Code will NOT be displayed on the screen. A beep WILL sound when you press
each key
| = Code WILL be displayed when typed AND when safe is opened/closed, a beep
WILL sound when you press each key
2 = Code WILL be displayed when typed only. A beep WILL sound when you press
each key
3 = Code will NOT be displayed on the screen. A beep WILL NOT sound when you
press each key
4 = Code WILL be displayed when typed AND when the safe is opened/ closed. A
beep WILL NOT sound when you press each key

Digit 2 – The length of your code 3 = 3 digits 4 = 4 digits 5 = 5 digits 6 = 6
digits
NOTE: This should be kept as 4 digits for your hotel guests
Digit 3 – Penalty time length
0 = There will be no penalty lockout time (not recommended) 1 = After 4
incorrect entries there is a penalty time of 15 minutes 2 = After 4 incorrect
entries there is a penalty time of 30 minutes
Digit 4 – Master code
2 = Off 3 = On
NOTE: Burton Safes recommends to keep the master code on
Digit 5 – Audit trail
0 = Record safe openings, can close safe door on low power 1= Record safe
openings and closures, can close safe door on low power 2 = Record safe
openings, safe door cannot close if power is low 3 = Record safe openings and
closures, safe door cannot close is power is low

Keypad setup
Now you have chosen your settings you can set up the keypad
· Open the safe door with a valid user or master code · Press the [CLEAR] key
twice, the screen will display PROG’ · Enter the code

chosen from the setup list i.e. [1][4][1][3][2][!] · Press the [LOCK] key ·
The screen will now display EEEEEE’ enter the date in the format DD MM YY followed by the [LOCK] key · The screen will now display

enter the time in the format
HH MM SS followed by the [LOCK] key · Enter your user code followed by the
[LOCK] key,
the keypad is now set up
NOTE: If you change the code length setting, after entering the date and time,
follow the How to close the safe/change the code’ before closing the safe door

Current supply / Battery change
· With the safe closed press the [LOCK] key · If screen shows bA-HI’ the batteries are fine · If screen shows
bA-LO’ the batteries are low and need
changing · Open the safe and the battery compartment to change the batteries.
Burton Safes recommend the Duracell brand.
Opening the safe with the override key
· Remove the plastic cover on the safe by the bottom of the keypad · Insert
the key into the lock.
The key will only fit the lock one way – do not force the key · Turn the key
clockwise to open the safe.
If there is battery power the screen will display `OPEN’ · After you have
finished and closed the safe door,
turn the key anti-clockwise to close · Ensure you replace the plastic cover
Error codes
Every time an error code is shown, the keypad will beep twice.
ERROR = Wrong code has been entered
HOLD 15/30 = 4 wrong codes have been entered, you are in a |5 minute or 30 minute penalty lockout time.
ERROR 1 =
Indicates that the bolts have failed to retract fully. Press lightly on the door to relieve the pressure and ensure they are not catching on anything and try again. If you continually get this error code, contact Burton Safes
ERROR 2 =
Indicates that the bolts have failed to close fully. Open the safe door and make sure that nothing is in the way of the bolts. Do not overfill your safe. Make sure you can close the safe door fully before trying again. If you continually get this error code, contact Burton Safes
