WHAT TYPES OF WASTE IS THE APPLIANCE ABLE TO PROCESS
Non-compatible waste
Your appliance can only handle food waste. Plastic, metal, glass or other
materials are prohibited and may damage your appliance.
Certain foods should also be avoided as they too can damage your appliance,
such as:
- large quantities of liquid (water, broth, soup, vinaigrette, liquid yoghurt, milk, etc.). Pour as much as you can into the sink before putting the waste into the appliance’s bucket.
- food that is overly large or hard:
- large, hard bones (such as beef ribs, pork bones…)
- hard shells (scallops, oysters…)
- hard stones (peaches, cherries, avocados…)
- coconut
- sweets and chewing gum
- too much fat, as the appliance will be unable to dehydrate it (oil…)
- very fibrous foods (artichoke, pineapple leaves…) Waste that is acceptable in small quantities Avoid overloading the appliance with certain foods, as this will affect its performance: their residue may stick to the sides (too much sweet food) or clump together (excessively starchy or very wet waste). Add only a limited amount of these foods, and do not place them at the bottom of the bucket.
- Very sweet foods and some types of fruit (such as melon, pineapple skin), jam, honey…
- Very fatty foods
- Bread
- Sauces
- Yoghurt
- Paper towels, tissues
Compatible waste
- Meat
- Small bones (poultry, rabbit, lamb or pork chops…)
- Fish including bones
- Shellfish & shells (except hard shells such as oysters, whelks, scallops)
- Fruit & vegetables
- Egg shells
- Rice, pasta, potatoes
- Grains and cereals
- Pizza
- Cheese
- Cake, pies and tarts, biscuits and Danish pastries
- Coffee grounds
- Tea (leaves and bags)
- Flowers, leaves
Advice:
- For optimum results, we recommend mixing different types of food in the appliance.
- As a general rule, we recommend cutting food into 2 to 3 cm lengths so that it can be processed more efficiently by the appliance. Because of their texture or size, some food could wrap themselves around the grinding blade or even cause it to become blocked.
The following foods should always be cut up:
- Herbs, such as parsley and coriander
- Bunches of grapes
- Celery, fennel, asparagus, ginger, aubergine skins
NOTE
Depending on the type of food that is put in the bucket, the surface coating of the bucket may be damaged (hard or sharp food). This is normal wear and tear and has no effect on the performance of the appliance.
WHAT CAN I PUT INTO MY MACHINE
WHAT SHOULD I DO WITH THE RESIDUE
Once the cycle has been completed and your waste has been processed by the appliance, you can:
- either throw the residue in the bin: with 85% less volume, this waste will take up much less space in your bin. This also prevents unpleasant odours and the presence of midges;
- or use the waste as fertiliser in the garden, or for balcony or indoor plants.
Using as fertilizer
You may use the residue produced by the appliance as fertilizer for your garden, vegetable garden or indoor plants provided you separate the waste to be processed by the appliance
Compatible for fertiliser Non compatible for fertiliser
• Fruit and vegetable waste
Caution: citrus fruit should be used in limited quantities due to their acidity.
• Egg shells
• Coffee grounds
• Flowers, leaves
| • Meat (including bones)
• Fish (including bones)
• The shells of mussels and other seafood
BEFORE ACTIVATING FOR THE FIRST TIME
UNPACKING
- Unpack the appliance and remove any plastic bags, pieces of cardboard or paper used to protect the various parts.
- Keep the packaging elements.
- Never leave plastic bags within the reach of children.
- Remove any self-adhesive labels that may have been affixed to the product, as well as any information leaflets.
- Before using for the first time, be sure to remove the label indicating the ‘maximum level’ inside the bucket.
INSTALLING THE ACTIVATED CARBON ANTI-ODOUR FILTER
Before using for the first time, ensure that the antiodour filter is correctly installed and that all labels have been removed from it to allow for proper air circulation, and to capture any odours that may be produced by the waste treatment process.
- Unplug the appliance.
- Remove the compartment containing the carbon filter. Make sure that the rubber seal remains securely in position in its recess
- Remove the filter holder by pulling it upwards and holding it firmly. Do not remove the filter completely. Lift it only slightly and peel off the label. Replace the filter in its holder by sliding it downwards.
- Remove the label affixed to the bottom of the filter.
- Replace the filter and its compartment in the dedicated slot.
ACTIVATION
-
Place the appliance on a flat, dry, non-slip surface.
-
Turn the lock knob to the left, to .
-
Press the lid-opening button.
-
Place your food in the bucket, making sure you do not exceed the maximum level. Be sure to follow the advice given in the section entitled “What types of waste is the appliance able to process?”.
- When placing food in the bucket without removing the bucket from the appliance, make sure that it does not fall into the gap between the bucket and the body of the appliance. If it does, remove the bucket and wipe the outside of the bucket and the inside of the appliance (bucket housing and the area around the bucket).
- You can also remove the bucket from the appliance prior to placing food in it. When putting the bucket back into the appliance, align the triangle on the bucket with the triangle on the body of the appliance then fit the bucket into the appliance by rotating it slightly in one direction and then in the other to ensure that they are correctly assembled.
- NOTE
The lid will not close if the bucket is not properly positioned.
-
Before closing the lid, clean any dirt from around the bucket.
-
Close the lid and turn the lock knob to the right .
NOTE
The appliance will not start if the lock button is not set to -
Plug in the power cord. The appliance will beep and the lights will flash then switch off.
-
Press to activate the waste-reduction cycle; the appliance will beep.
The biowaste reduction cycle consists of 3 steps that occur automatically one after the other without any intervention on your part:- Drying : the waste is heated in order to dehydrate it.
- Grinding : the dried waste is ground to reduce its volume by about 85%.
- Cooling : This natural cooling cycle prevents any risk of burns. The ventilation cycle is triggered and lasts throughout the cooling phase. At each stage, the corresponding light is displayed. The total cycle lasts between 4 and 8 hours, depending on the quality and moisture content of the waste. This is managed by the appliance.
-
When the entire waste reduction cycle is complete, the appliance will beep and all lights will switch off.
-
Unplug the power cord.
-
Unlock and open the lid.
-
Remove the bucket and dispose of the residue. For this, please refer to the section entitled “What should I do with the residue?”.
Important Remarks
- The bucket handle is covered with a sheath. As the appliance and the area around the bucket are hot, we advise you to use a potholder to avoid burning yourself.
- At any time during the reduction cycle, you can stop the appliance by pressing for 3 seconds. In this case, you will need to start a new waste reduction cycle.
- If the appliance has not successfully reduced some of the waste because it is too big, cut it into smaller pieces (about 2 to 3 cm), put it back into the bucket with a new batch of bio-waste and start a new cycle.
THE PAUSE FUNCTION
You can pause your appliance to add waste when it is already in operation. However, we recommend that you do this only during the first half hour of operation (that is the drying period). After that, the food may not be properly dried and ground by the appliance. Moreover, the drying time, and therefore the total operating time, would be increased.
To pause the appliance:
- Press ; the “Drying in progress” light will flash.
- Turn the unlock knob to and press the button to open the lid.
- Add the food to the bucket.
- Close the lid and turn the lock knob to .
- Press to restart the waste reduction cycle. The “Drying in progress” light will remain on
REPLACING THE ACTIVATED CARBON
The anti-odour filter contains activated carbon that captures odours generated
during the bio-waste reduction process.
When the carbon needs to be changed, the “Filter” light comes on. Depending on
the frequency of use and cycle time, the carbon in the odour filter should be
changed approximately every 3 months (based on 3 cycles per week).
-
Unplug the appliance before changing the filter.
-
Remove the compartment containing the anti-odor filter. Make sure that the rubber seal remains securely in position in its recess.
-
Remove the filter compartment by pulling it upwards and holding it firmly. Remove the filter compartment completely.
-
Open the filter lid: place the filter on a flat surface; the ventilation holes should be facing you. Firmly lift only the front of the cover (the part positioned below the ventilation holes) until the lid is completely open.
Remark: the lid will not open if you attempt to lift the entire lid surface at once.
Important remark
It is strictly forbidden to use objects or tools (such as a screwdriver or knife) to open the charcoal filter cover, as this could damage it. Failure to comply with this instruction will invalidate the guarantee. -
Empty the activated carbon contained in the filter
Important remark
When removing the activated carbon, make sure that you do not throw away the 2 filter felts located in the air vents
NOTE
You can dispose of used activated carbon in your rubbish bin but you can also recycle it by using it as a fertiliser. To do so, mix the carbon with potting soil or compost and use it in your garden or vegetable patch, or for your houseplants. Activated carbon acts as a fertiliser as well as a pH regulator for the soil. -
Take a new bag of activated carbon, unpack it and open the bag
-
Make sure the filter felts are securely in place, the large one at the bottom of the filter and the smaller one at the top.
-
Refill the filter with 600 g of activated carbon.
-
Close the filter properly with its cover.
-
Insert the filter into the compartment as far as it will go by sliding the 2 grooves at the back of the filter into the 2 notches on the compartment
-
Place the filter and compartment back in their dedicated recess
-
Once the activated carbon has been replaced, the appliance must be reset to return the cycle count to its initial level. To do so, press for 3 seconds; the appliance will beep and the corresponding light will switch off.
NOTE
- Always make sure you have a spare bag of activated carbon. To order it, please go to our website www.accessoireselectromenager. fr or www.riviera-et-bar.fr
- The reset button is only used to reset the appliance after replacing the activated carbon. Under no circumstances should it be used to reset the operating cycle of the appliance.
