A: If you face issues with gas strut installation, refer to step
9 for adjusting the opening angle or seek assistance from customer
support.
Q: How do I determine the suitable wall for hanging the

suitable for securing hardware to at least one wood stud. Use a

1
Using a mini flathead screwdriver, gently pry up on the metal clip holding the
gas strut to the mounting bracket and pull the gas strut to separate the two.
2
Your Murphy Shelf ships with the lock and strike uninstalled. This is to
prevent the shelf from becoming locked or accidentally locking the access
cards inside the shelf. Put 4 AAA batteries into the lock, program the manager
and user cards, and set up the Bluetooth connected app. *Programming
instructions can found at the end of this document.
3
After you have put batteries in the lock, use a screwdriver to install it to
the pre-marked location in the drop-down shelf with the latch openings towards
the front of the shelf.
4
Install the power jack cable through the hole at the back of the drop-down
shelf. Plug the backup power jack into the side of the lock.
5
Test the jack in the bottom of the shelf using the included power extension
cable. If the power extension cable cannot be fully plugged into the jack,
adjust the depth of the power jack through mounting bracket by loosening the
two screws in the side of the bracket and pushing the power just through the
shelf until the extension cable can be fully plugged in.
6
The front and top panels are pre-drilled to facilitate installation. The
strike attaches to the front panel, with the wider set holes aligning with the
screw holes in the strike, and the pre-drilled holes in the top panel provide
clearance for the push pins to retract.

7
Remove the snap on cover from the side of the strike to access the screw
holes. Align the strike over the screw holes in the front panel and loosely
attach using one screw.
8
Depress the push pin opposite the screw you just attached and attach the
remaining screw. Fully tighten both screws. Check both push pins and make sure
they move freely. Replace the snap on cover.
9
Reattach the gas strut to its mounting bracket by firmly pressing back on.
*The opening angle of the drop shelf can be adjusted by loosening the screws
for the gas strut bracket and sliding it up or down, then re-tightening the
screws. This is easiest to do with the gas strut detached.
10
Determine where you want to place your shelf. Make sure the wall is suitable
for hanging the shelf. The wall should have either 2×4 or 2×6 construction.
You will need to secure the hardware to at least 1 wood stud, more are
preferred. Determine the height you want the top of your shelf, and measure
down 3/8″. This will mark the top of the wall plate.
11
Using a stud finder locate and mark the studs. *If you are mounting to a
single stud or the ends of the wall plate are more than 2″ (2 mounting holes)
away from the nearest stud, the ends of the wall plate will need to be secured
with wall anchors.
12
Using a drill, with a Phillips head driver, attach the wall plate using one of
the 3″ screws into one of the studs just tight enough that the wall plate can
still be rotated by hand.

13
FOR WALL ANCHORS ONLY Level the wall plate and mark the wall at the
mounting holes at each end of the hardware. Use a 1/8″ drill bit and drill all
marked locations.
14
The wall anchors provided are self-drilling. Align the drilling point of the
anchor with the pilot hole and use a Phillips head screwdriver to drive the
anchor into the wall until it stops.
15
Level the wall plate and finish securing the shelf to the wall using
additional 3″ lag screws at each stud location and 1″ screws at each wall
anchor. Make sure all screws are fully tightened.
16
Align the arms with the holes in the back of your shelf and slide the shelf
all the way against the wall.
17
Adjust the shelf side to side until it is where you want it.
18
Pull the shelf back out from the wall 2-3″. Locate the two flat sections near
the base of each arm and use an adjustable wrench to turn them clockwise to
tighten them into the slide and lock the arm in place.

19
After you do this at each arm, slide the shelf back against the wall.
20
Insert a 9/64″ hex wrench through each 5/16″ hole in the bottom of the shelf
and tighten the retainer onto the wall plate. Slightly lifting the front edge
of the shelf while pressing it against the wall can help the clamp fully
engage the wall plate.
21
You will want to create cutouts for your belongings in the foam insert before
it is installed onto the shelf. Lay your items over the included foam insert,
press down firmly on them, then trace the outline using a marker. Remove your
items and using a NEW razor knife, carefully cut around the outline. We
recommend cutting on the inside of the outline, test fitting your items, then
removing additional foam if needed.
22
After you have created the desired cutouts, remove the backing from the foam,
align it to the pocket in the drop shelf, and press it into the pocket using
one hand behind the shelf to support it.
23
If the batteries in your lock die, your shelf is equipped with a backup power
jack. Use the provided USB power cord and adaptor and plug them into the port
on the bottom of your shelf to temporarily provide power to the lock and use
your access card to unlock it.
24
Congratulations. You have successfully installed your Murphy Shelf with Secret
Drop Down Compartment.
