MAVERICKS DESCRIPTION

  1. The Inflatable Diamond Grid (IDG) is a self-supporting air frame inspired by the molecular structure of a diamond. Its design follows the principle of a geodesic dome. What sets it apart is its high stability and its excellent surface-area-tovolume ratio.
  2. The patented Multi Chamber Safety System allows the entire airframe (IDG) to be inflated in one single step. The inflated frame can then be divided into ten separate chambers with the one-pump connectors, assuring stability even if some parts are damaged.
  3. The IDG features two-way valves for inflation and deflation, each with two closures: a one-way valve for quick inflation and a large opening for easy deflation. This ensures pitching and taking down the tent are nearly effortless.
  4. Tensioning options: The Mavericks frame is equipped with multiple anchor points for attaching storm lines to enhance stability in extreme conditions. The additional Stormline Set is an optional accessory and not included with the tent.
  5. Lower ventilation: Mavericks’ flysheet is equipped with closable lower air vents (5x), facilitating airflow into the tent. (You find more information at Adjustable Ventilation).
  6. Upper ventilation: The closable air vents ensure perfect, upward air circulation – even in the worst conditions.
  7. Simplicity: Mavericks is designed so that the tent and the airframe can be set up in one step (inflation). This means that the airframe and the tent remain connected and can be pitched and packed down together.
  8. Single Layer Tent: Mavericks is designed to be an extremely tough base and expedition tent and doesn’t come with an additional inner tent. Through its very good ventilation it can still be used as a sleeping shelter if necessary.
  9. The air beams feature a tough, double-layer construction. An air-tight TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) bladder provides consistent air pressure over long periods of time. The outer sleeve is made of an extra strong polyester fabric, ensuring outstanding rigidity and durability.
  10. Access and windows: Mavericks comes with three doors and three windows to offer multiple access points and a good overview of the surrounding area (you find more information at Access and Windows).
  11. Ground fixation: There is one extra large adjustable webbing with a loop at each of the 10 ground elements of the tent frame.
  12. Groundsheet: The integrated groundsheet is completely removable if necessary and shares an overlapping area with the actual tent body to improve the floor’s water resistance. (You find more information at The Components).

SET UP

Mavericks consist of three components: The frame, the tent body and the groundsheet. Combining these three elements results in a highly functional and stable tent that can be set up in less than 10 minutes.

SPREAD OUT

  • Lay out the tent flat on the ground.

CLOSE (x10)

  • Close all valves.

OPEN (x1)

  • Connect the adapter to the valve and both to the pump

INFLATE

  • Inflation is quick, as the tent pitches itself

CLOSE (x1)

  • Disconnect the pump and make sure all valves are properly closed and sealed

SECURE (x15)

  • Use the punch clips to separate the air beams.

GROUND FIXATION

  • Apply your choice of peg to the ground fixation webbings and start with adding moderate tension to all anchor points before applying the final force for maximum stability.

CAUTION: pegs are not included!

SECURE CLIPS

  • The clips in the neoprene sleeve are easy to use. They can be felt and operated through the neoprene cover by hand.

TAKE DOWN

  • For take down, you can fold the assembled components, frame, flysheet and groundsheet, together in one piece and pack them away. It is thus quickly and easily made available again for future use. Remember to remove all items and dry out the tent before packing it away.
  • Packing a wet tent is not ideal, but if you need to pack up quickly, make sure to air dry it later to prevent mold and unpleasant odors.

RELEASE (x15)

  • Release the punch clips.

OPEN (x10)

  • Open all valves to release the air.
  • Attention: do not be alarmed by the sudden noise!

FOLD

  • Remember to remove excess air from the struts by pressing it out after each fold.

ROLL UP & PACK

  • Roll up the correctly folded tent and press out the excess air. Insert the rolled-up tent into the carry bag.

TIP

  • A correctly folded tent fits perfectly into the packsack.
  • To get the airframe as deflated as possible, roll up the tent and open it again several times. By doing so, more air is squeezed out with each roll-up. This is how you compress the tent to a minimum pack size.

THE COMPONENTS

Mavericks consist of three components: The frame, the tent body and the groundsheet.
Combining these three elements results in a highly functional and stable tent that is ready for all future adventures.

  • A: The inflatable frame or IDG (Inflatable Diamond Grid) maintains the construction of the tent.
  • B: The tent protects against wind and weather.
  • C: Installing the groundsheet is recommended if you handle sensitive equipment, pitch on loose or wet/dirty ground or if you consider sleeping inside Mavericks.

In case you have heavy equipment and rocky or hard ground or you have to wear heavy boots all day long – we suggest using Mavericks without the groundsheet. It is attached to the tent body on the inside at ten points to offer a winkle- free fit and is easily attached and detached.

GROUNDSHEET

  • The flysheet includes a rim of ground fabric for extra water resistance. Adding the groundsheet creates an overlapping area which ensures good protection from the elements.

ACCESS & WINDOWS

  • Mavericks offer three identical entries for maximum flexibility and to ensure good access in various scenarios.
  • All openings use big YKK zippers which are partly covered to provide enhanced weather protection.
  • All three windows are made from transparent TPU and ensure a good overview of the surroundings even with all openings and doors closed.

ADJUSTABLE VENTILATION

  • To ensure optimal airflow, Mavericks features five closable openings distributed evenly along the ground (blue) to control the intake of fresh/ cold air.
  • Additionally, there are two large zipper openings at the top (red) where warm air is expelled as soon as colder air enters, creating a chimney effect.
  • With multiple openings, you can always find a downwind-facing side to open.

ADVANCED SETUP

  • Mavericks is designed to withstand harsh and uncomfortable weather conditions.
  • The structure is engineered to endure strong wind speeds of up to 180 km/h.
  • For moderate conditions, additional guy lines are not required. However, in case of expecting higher wind forces or very strong gusts, we recommend using guy lines to strengthen the structure.

TENSIONING OF GROUND FIXATION

  • The ground fixation webbings are crucial for the standard setup and must always be anchored to ensure maximum stability and securely position the tent while keeping the flysheet taut.
  • Outside the tent, there are 10 tensioning webbings. For an evenly pitched tent, please apply your choice of pegs one by one without fully tensioning the webbing. After all pegs are correctly placed, you can start tensioning the webbings, beginning on one side and countertensioning the other side immediately after.
  • This will ensure a nicely balanced tent pitch.
  • In especially harsh conditions, you may want to add the guylines as described in Additional Tensioning for supplementary strength.

ADDITIONAL TENSIONING

STRONG WINDS AHEAD?

  1. Ensure the frame pressure is at 0.6 bar (8-9 psi)
  2. Check that the ground fixation is in place and properly tensioned
  3. Add additional guylines to support the tent structures’ maximum load

General tensioning ensures stability. In stormy conditions, enhance stability with additional guy lines, good overall tensioning, and correct frame pressure (0.6 bar or 8-9 psi).
The frame has 25 extra-strong anchor points (five per direction). In prevailing winds, support the windward side first, which may suffice depending on wind force. For strong, changing gusts, support at least three directions to maintain balance, using multiple anchor points per direction.

CAUTION

Mavericks come without pegs and guy lines. Supplement appropriate materials based on environment and weather conditions. More information at WWW.HEIMPLANET.COM.

REPAIR

REPAIR VIDEO

The IDG is made of especially robust materials.
However, if the outer sleeve or inner bladder is damaged, you can replace or patch it just as you would a flat tire on a bike. If the bladder is punctured, it can easily be removed through the repair opening at the end of each strut.

LOCATE THE REPAIR OPENING

  • You can find the repair opening at the end of each strut. Open the Velcro to access to the inner TPU bladder.

CONNECTORS & VALVES

  • Remove the rubber tubes and plastic rings from the One-Pump Connectors, unscrew the valve and press them out.

ATTACH A STRING TO THE CONNECTOR

  • Attach a string (or use one of the guy lines) to the One-Pump Connector farthest from the repair opening.

PULL OUT THE BLADDER

  • Pull the bladder out of the outer sleeve carefully – the string will be automatically guided into the outer sleeve. Use the string to reinsert the bladder after repair.

REPAIR/EXCHANGE

  • Now you can repair the hole with the self-adhesive patches provided in the repair kit. Cut a patch with rounded corners out of the repair material that is approximately 2 cm larger on all sides than the damaged area. If necessary, replace the damaged bladder with a new one.

INSERT THE BLADDER

  • Take great care not to twist the bladder when reinserting. Twisting the bladder can lead to damage when pumping it up. After the bladder has been reinserted, fold the end of the bladder and the closing piece into the end of the strut.

CLOSE THE VELCRO

  • Be sure to securely fasten the Velcro inside the strut opening.

INFLATE THE BLADDER SLOWLY

  • After the bladder has been inserted, make sure it fills out the space inside the strut completely. Then slowly fill the bladder with air, taking care that it is positioned correctly. If the bladder is not positioned correctly (e.g. bladder is twisted or bladder does not fill out the space inside the strut completely), correct its position or remove it and reinsert it correctly.

PLEASE NOTE

  • If the outer sleeve of a strut is damaged, it should be replaced immediately.
  • Otherwise, you might damage the inner bladder. In this case, unfasten the Velcro closure on the corners and at the bottom so you can remove and replace the entire strut.

CARE

  • The Heimplanet tents are made from extremely durable materials. With just a bit of care, it will serve you as a reliable home for many years to come.

BE GOOD TO YOUR TENT AND YOUR TENT WILL BE GOOD TO YOU

  • Give your tent a quick wipe-down after each use to prevent mold and mildew stains from forming.
  • Stains and grime are best removed with a soft cloth and lukewarm, soapy water. Do not use a washing machine to clean your tent or have it professionally dry-cleaned.
  • If a zipper is difficult to open and close, simply treat it with a bit of wax.
