What you need to know about field-installed kits
You need flexibility at the jobsite and our innovative multi-refrigerant coils and air handlers provide an easy solution for both R-410A system repairs and R-454B installations. Depending on the job and if the furnace is being replaced, you’ll need to ensure you have the right components on site.
Field-convertible Coils & Air Handlers
Convertible coils and air handlers ship to you ready for R-410A installations. Here’s what you need to know to convert them to R-454B refrigerant:
- You’ll need a R-454B TXV to replace the factory installed R-410A TXV in the convertible coil or air handler.
- A refrigerant sensor needs to be installed in the factory installed mounting bracket.
- Depending on the orientation of the air handler, the mounting bracket may need to be relocated. Units ship ready for up-flow installation.
- If the job has a furnace that does not have built-in refrigerant detection system controls, or you’re using a convertible air handler, you’ll need to add external controls to the system.
- Be sure to apply the supplied R-454B labels once the coil or air handler is converted.
- Refer to the chart for components needed in different applications.
Factory-ready R-454B components
- When you’re installing a dedicated R-454B coil and outdoor unit, coils have a factory installed sensor. For an existing furnace or if the new furnace does not have built-in refrigerant detection system controls, you’ll need external controls.
- Air Handlers will ship from the factory with both the refrigerant detection system sensor and refrigerant detection system controls built-in – no field modification required.
