Step 6 – Combine Both Brackets

  • Apply taps at the back of the shelf to snap both brackets fully into place.

Step 7 – Secure Brackets Together

  • Insert set screws into pre-drilled holes and secure with a hex key. Consider using Epoxy glue for a stronger installation.

FAQ

Q: How many set screws should I use per foot of shelf length?

A: It is recommended to use 1 set screw per foot of shelf length for secure installation.

Q: What if the male bracket is not flush against the wall?

A: Ensure the male bracket is flush against the wall to prevent installation failure. You can leave up to 1/4 inch space between the back of the male bracket and the wall without compromising integrity or holding capacity.

  • (Table Saw)

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION

STEP 1 – CREATE CHANNEL

  • Create the channel with a router, or, for professionals (North America only), a Dado blade/table saw. The most common method is to router out the back of your shelf to make room for the female bracket.
  • Note that the bottom of the bracket is .80mm longer than the top. We recommend having the top of the bracket .40mm (a fingernail) recessed from the shelf & a .40mm overhang for the bottom bracket ledge.
  • This is to allow for the bracket to slightly embed itself into the drywall to prevent any unwanted rocking once installed. On hard walls (like tile) you will instead want to have the bottom ledge flush with the back of the shelf.
  • Bottom ledge: Recessed on drywall, flush with shelf back on hard surfaces like tile

STEP 2 – ATTACH FEMALE BRACKET

Use the 1 1/4” pan head screws to secure the bracket to your shelf. Please use 1 screw per hole. Pre-drilling screw holes may be necessary for harder woods.

STEP 3 – DRILL SET SCREW HOLES

  • Drill & tap the holes in the bottom of the shelf for the threaded set screws for the bracket that are used to secure the two components together at the end of the installation.
  • Generally, you will want to use 1 set screws per foot of the shelf. Use a 17/64” drill bit to predrill the tap hole, and then use a 5/16” tap bit to thread the hole. These should be 15.9mm or 5/8” in from the bottom lip of the female bracket.

STEP 4 – PREPARING THE MALE BRACKET

  • You will need to drill the necessary holes into the male bracket.
  • Please use the 3/16” drill bit provided. It is recommended to find a minimum of 2 studs. Mark your studs on the bracket & ensure you drill your holes centered on the provided top & bottom dyelines on the bracket.

STEP 5 – ATTACH MALE BRACKET TO WALL

  • When attaching the male bracket to the wall, please use #8 -2½” long panhead screws. Start by drilling one screw using the top hole but not tightening it all the way.
  • Then use a level, make sure the bracket is leveled before drilling your second screw into the other stud. Tighten the screw (but not so much the bracket bends) then go back and tighten the first one. Then screw in the bottom screws in each stud.
  • Important: Make sure the screws in the male bracket are sufficiently tight against the wall. Too loose and the connection of the shelf to the wall may not be stable and the shelf may wiggle.
  • Too tight and the male bracket may bend and fail to connect with the female bracket.

STEP 6 – COMBINE BOTH BRACKETS

  • Tilt your shelf downward at a 15° angle to begin engaging the 2 brackets together. Hook the upper part of your female bracket onto the upper part of the male bracket. Once you feel the grooves begin to interlock, the next step is to secure them together.
  • To do this, apply 2-3 solid taps at the back of the shelf where the brackets sit. This should cause the brackets to snap fully into place, leaving a level shelf.

STEP 7 – SECURE BRACKETS TOGETHER

  • Insert the set screws into the pre-drilled & tapped holes from step 3. These should be 15.9mm or 5/8” from the bottom ledge of the female bracket. Screw them in by hand until they are finger-tight, and then finish securing them with the provided hex key.
  • The tighter the better. Alternatively, you may use Epoxy glue alongside the set screws, for a more permanent, stronger install.
  • Combining both methods gives the strongest results.

IMPORTANT TIP #1

  • Please use the specified hardware described in this installation guide. By not using the specific items, you may cause a loss of integrity of the Hovr Bracket System, and thus, decreased performance.
  • It is recommended that yearly checks are done to ensure a proper hold on the wall, such as tightening of set screws.

IMPORTANT TIP #2

  • The male bracket must be flush against the wall.
  • If you bend it, it may fail to engage correctly with the female bracket, resulting in a failed installation.
  • With that said, not all walls are straight. The female bracket on the shelf is straight, so the male bracket on the wall must be straight as well for them to engage.
  • You can leave up to 1/4 of an inch space between the back of the male bracket & the wall without the integrity or holding capacity being compromised.
  • There are options here on how to deal with that extra space, all of which you can find in our knowledge base online. For now, see the below diagrams for help in dealing with a bowed wall.hovr-Classic-1-1by2Inch-Tall-Bracket-FIG-9
