To install your mantel, follow these instructions

Please note most regulations require a minimum of 12 inches of clearance above the firebox.

  1. Make sure the notch on the back of the mantel is on the upper portion, facing the wall.
  2. Calculate the placement of the lag screws on the wall so that the mantel rests at your desired height. The lag screws will rest even with the upper part of the back notch. We provide 2 Lag Screws for a mantel of 6’ and less in length and 3 Lag Screws for a mantel more than 6’ in length.
  3. Pre-drill the supporting wall studs using a ¼” bit. Holes must be smaller than the diameter of the lag screws. **For brick wall, you need to pre-drill with the ½” masonry drill bit the hole that will receive the lag screw. The hole has to be pierced in the grout, between two bricks. Simply place the lag screw shields in the hole.
  4. Screw in the lag screws in the wall, leaving about 1 1/2 inches between the wall and the washer.
  5. Slide the mantel over the lag screws. The washers should lock in the larger notch, at the deepest part of the back notch. If the mantel is not flush with the wall, remove the mantel and tighten lag screws. Repeat until perfect.

How to install the Corbels

Avana-Mantel-12-Inches-Floating-Box-Fireplace-FIG-1

The metal plate is only a template.
It is quite simple; you will use the metal template supplied with the screws and dowels. Ideally, place the mantel upside down and determine where you want the corbels. The corbels should have been pre-drilled using the template you have. Determine which side the template was used for the corbels and use the other side for the mantel. One extremity will be marked “wall”, that goes up against the back side of the mantel. Screw in the template into the mantel using the two small screws supplied. Then, use a 3/8″ drill bit to drill two holes into the mantel. Make them slightly deeper than half of a wood dowel. Remove the template and repeat for the second corbel. Once done, you can stick the four dowels into the holes with glue and stick some more glue into the other holes and fit the corbels onto the mantel. Either use some weight or tape the corbels down with painter’s tape to make sure they don’t move. Wait 24 hours and then hang the mantel.
