WARNING DO NOT USE BEFORE READING THE INSTRUCTIONS IN FULL
The Rhineeze nasal irrigation device has been designed by a leading ENT
surgeon to deliver the right amount of saline solution at the correct pressure
to ensure safe and efficient irrigation of the sinuses. Used regularly the
device can help relieve the symptoms of many sinus conditions such as allergic
rhinitis and congestion following infection or surgery. It is important to
follow the instructions for use carefully and to only use the product for the
purpose of nasal irrigation. Disassembling the device will void the warranty
and may make the device inoperable or unsafe. Damage to the device, such as
cracks caused by dropping it may also cause the device to become inoperable or
unsafe. Always store in a clean dry environment away from direct sunlight.
Always practice good hand hygiene when handling and using the device. Do not
use the same nasal tip for different people. Replacement tips are available.
Always seek medical advice if your symptoms persist for more than three days;
always seek medical advice before using the device if you have an underlying
chronic condition or are unsure if the device will be suitable or safe for you
to use.
Using the Rhineeze device
- First, wash your hands. Ensure the applicator tip is securely attached to the device. Invert the device so that the tip is facing towards the floor. Fill the device using pre-prepared sterile saline solution (0.9%) by pushing the tip of the applicator through the self-sealing valve located at the base of the reservoir. Fill until the saline is level with the bottom of the valve; this will provide enough solution for two 25ml applications. Remove the applicator (Note if filling using saline you have prepared yourself, or from a bottle that does not have a narrow spout, the valve can be removed to allow for filling, replace the valve securely after the device is full.)
- Keeping the device inverted, charge the device by slowly drawing back on the slide until you hear a ‘click’ and the slide stops, then return the slide to its original closed position
- To operate, stand over a sink with your mouth open and insert the tip of the device into the first nostril so that the tip seals the nostril opening, the hit only needs gentle pressure, do not force the tip into your nostril. Seal the other nostril with the index finger of your free hand. Locate the actuation button (i) with the thumb of the hand holding the device, relax and press the button, the device will deliver 25ml of saline, the saline will flow through the nasal passage, down the back of the throat and exit via the mouth. Remove the tip from your nose. Repeat the process (if necessary) with the second nostril. If you have a chronic condition it is recommended that you perform this process twice daily. Note that for some people using a nasal irrigator may at first be a little uncomfortable, this is entirely normal, and most people soon get used to the sensation. If you have repeated severe discomfort or bleeding while using the device, please consult your doctor to assess any underlying problem and stop using the device until your doctor has given you advice that it is safe to do so.
- To remove and replace the applicator tip first grasp the base of the tip between your thumb and fore finger and then gently pull the tip off its spigot, a rotating action will help to remove it if it is stiff; to replace the tip hold the new tip at its base and push the tip onto the spigot until it is flush with the base of the device, again a twisting action will aid this process. Check that the tip is fully engaged.
Cleaning the device
- The tip on the device features a non-return valve that prevents any dirty saline from running back into the device. The tip can be cleaned by removing it from the device and running under warm water and patting dry with a clean paper towel. If the tip becomes damaged, discard it and replace with a new tip. Replacement tips are available separately.
- Ensure that any remaining saline in the device is expelled by cycling the slide and pushing the button with the device held over the sink to release any excess fluid; the valve at the base of the reservoir may also be removed to drain any remaining saline.
- If you are not going to use the device for a period greater than two days, it is recommended to flush the device with cool boiled water to remove any salt solution that may dry out. A build-up of salt crystals inside the device could affect performance over time.
- The body of the device should be cleaned by wiping with warm water using a clean cloth and then patting dry, do not use harsh cleaning products as these may damage the device, do not immerse the device. More information is available at www.rhineeze.com
