The Sleepypod Air is a versatile pet carrier that serves as a carrier, car restraint, and travel bed for your pet. It is designed to meet airline and TSA requirements for in-cabin use on most airlines. The carrier features a patented design and comes with a shoulder strap for easy transport.
Product Usage Instructions
Assemble
- Unfold the carrier.
- Zip it closed.
- Connect the shoulder strap to the D-rings located on either side of the carrier near the zipper.
Acclimation
- Encourage your pet to explore the carrier and use it as a napping spot.
- Place treats or familiar objects inside the carrier.
- Gradually close the carrier and increase containment time.
- Start car rides by buckling your pet in its carrier in the back seat for brief periods.
- Supervise your pet at all times during acclimation.
Buckle In (Car Restraint)
- Place the Sleepypod Air in the rear seat of the vehicle with the logo facing the seat.
- Buckle the seat belt and secure the shoulder belt using the buckle loop.
- Pull the seat belt tight to activate the auto-ratcheting lock.
- Remove any slack from the seat belt.
Cleaning
The Ultra Plush bedding is machine washable; foam insert can be hand washed. The outer surface can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.
Acclimation
Encourage your pet to explore the carrier and use it as a napping spot. Fold
one end until the hook and loop tab on the mesh panel meets the interior hook
and loop tab in the middle of the panel. The tab can be extended if needed.
Place treats or familiar objects in the carrier like an object with your scent
on it (e.g. a t-shirt) or a familiar toy. Offer plenty of praise as positive
reinforcement. Allow your pet to use it as a regular napping spot so that it
becomes a familiar space.
When your pet is comfortable using the carrier as a napping spot, partially
close the carrier leaving a corner open for your pet to roam in and out.
Once your pet becomes accustomed to the partially closed panel, zip the carrier closed leaving your pet inside the carrier for very brief periods at a time. Gradually increase the length of time of containment. Begin car rides by buckling your pet in its carrier in the back seat for brief periods going nowhere. Gradually increase the length of time before taking your pet to happy destinations like the park or to visit a familiar friend.
NOTE: Pets should be supervised at all times. Some pets acclimate to being contained inside a carrier faster than others, so acclimate at the pet’s pace. Remove your pet from the carrier if your pet exhibits signs of anxiety or fear when inside the carrier and go back a step until your pet is more comfortable.
REMEMBER: The carrier should always be a happy place. It should never be used as punishment.
Before using the Sleepypod Air as an in-cabin air carrier for the first time,
fold the sides without a pet inside. Contact airline directly to determine
compatibility. Each airline has its own guidelines on
in-cabin pet travel requirements and specifics vary by flight.
Buckle In
- Place Sleepypod Air in the rear seat of the vehicle with the logo facing the seat.
- Extend seat belt all the way out.
- Buckle seat belt.
- Secure shoulder belt using the buckle loop in the zippered compartment at the back of the carrier nearest the back of the seat.
- Secure lap belt in the buckle loop in the zippered compartment at the front of the carrier. Pull the seat belt tight to activate the auto-ratcheting lock.
- Wiggle seat belt while pulling the strap to remove any slack.
DIMENSIONS
Maximum recommended weight 18 lbs. For best fit, make sure pet can lie down and turn around comfortably while the carrier is zipped closed.
Cleaning
The Ultra Plush bedding is machine washable in cold water on the gentle cycle
with like colors. Hang or lie flat to dry. No bleach or iron.
The foam insert can be hand washed. Mild detergent. Hang or lie flat to dry. A
lint roller, vacuum, or even tape can collect pet hair from the bedding if
needed. Outer surface can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.
Safety Tether Usage
Connect the safety tether to the D-ring. Then connect other end to your pet’s harness. The safety tether is designed to prevent quick getaways when the carrier is opened (like at airport TSA or at the veterinary office).
It should not be used during car travel or as a restraint device long term. Monitor your pet when using the safety tether.
Racks vary in shape and size, so check with your local bike specialist for guidance on securing carrier to the rack.
Privacy Panel
Lift lid and locate the pocket opening under the hook and loop tab. Slide panel inside and adjust location as needed to block out inclement weather or distractions. Store Privacy Panel in front pocket when not in use.
